We don't do baths too often and just plop him in the showers in the morning with us which saves an awful amount of scamping, running round and generally revving up. Is that worth trying? We just do milk downstairs, then upstairs to wash teeth. Into bedroom, change nappy and into PJs and sleeping bag. One story, goodnight song, lights out and that's it. It takes about 10 minutes on a good day. I am super lucky, I know...

Pregnancy and depression...anyone been through this?
Yak replied to mrsS's topic in The Family Room Discussion
MrsS I am so pleased for you. And yet absolutely appalled on your behalf that you've had to go through all this! You've done brilliantly. I agree it is definitely worth thinking about writing about your non-treatment from the other GPs when / if you feel strong enough. It's terrifying to think that other people out there in vulnerable situations could be prevented from getting the treatment they need. Hope you feel better soon. xx -

MrsS, I just wanted to say sounds like you're doing all the right things and doing amazingly well. Please keep posting and letting us know how you are gettting on. Fingers crossed your GP is able to see you tomorrow. Good GPs are worth their weight in gold at times like this (and I know it shouldn't be that way, but that seems to be the way it is, and certainly has been in my experience!). Keep on going, we're all rooting for you. -

Sorry, I've been so flaky in getting this sorted. Not knowing the Mag is closed shows just how much I get out at the moment! How about EDT from 7.30/8ish?
-
Sounds like Thursday 7th will suit the majority, although sadly not everyone. Shall we say the Mag from 7.30? I can book a table or two. Then we can arrange spring drinks when those who're not around this time can come out to play!
-
Oh sorry no date yet. How does either Wed 6th or Thurs 7th February suit people?
-
We're regulars at Sacred Heart Camberwell which has a children's liturgy at the 11.30 but is too late for our toddler. So we grin and get through the 10am one somehow with a combination of snacks, relatively quiet toys, books etc. We also have tried Lordship Lane and Peckham Rye (St James the Less) but in my view in general the RC church is not particularly great at catering for little ones. Sounds like Streatham is the place to be!

Is it time to resurrect this thread? How about planning something in early February to celebrate getting through January? (Small steps, ladies and gents, small steps).

My one went to nursery from 8 months old and has only just dropped his morning nap at weekends at the tender age of 20 months. But the morning nap at nursery never really established itself, despite a lot of trying from his keyworker. His afternoon naps were also on the short side at the start, but definitely did lengthen after a month or two. Sounds like you're doing all the right things - definitely keep talking to them about it if you're concerned at all. (An alternative might be to let him have a longer nap at 11, then keep his lunch for him when he wakes up?).

EU parents: double citizenship for kids?
Yak replied to Sanne Panne's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I would definitely get both, even.aside from.the cultural & affiliation benefits it brings. EU free movement rights aren't unlimited so you're always better off having the option of relying on Dutch nationality if your daughters want to do extended visits to the Netherlands in the future etc. -
We had this scam on us with Jacamo a couple of weeks ago. Someone hung around and signed for the goods on our doorstep, apparently. And with Jacamo and a couple of other companies you can open an account and order goods on credit without paying a penny up front, with very few personal details. Their fraud dept weren't too interested but we reported it to the police who were slightly more on the ball. There have been a few similar scams in our aream, apparently. We have TPS and are opted out of the electoral roll but still our details were got hold of from somewhere.

Camberwell Community Choir! ?3 pay as you go, no auditions, no commitment, with tea and biscuits half way through. The choir is run by 3 young talented and enthusastic chaps and the repertoire varies enormously (e.g. David Bowie, Faure's Requiem, deep South spirituals etc). Our plans for the next couple of months include a carol flashmob round the pubs of SE5, singing at the farmer's market and a couple of other treats. Details available http://www.facebook.com/CamberwellCommunityChoir?ref=ts&fref=ts and here: http://www.musicatstgiles.com/page17.htm

If you search under my name you'll find a thread about this earlier in the year when I was pondering the same food dilemma! Yes, be prepared for appetites to wax and wane. In the early days even waiting for gnochhi or pasta to cool down was too long for my little one to wait, so we had quite a few picky suppers of crackers, fruit, veg, cheese, hummus etc - something they can get stuck into while you take shoes off, make yourself a cup of tea etc. The only thing I would say is that don't try and kill yourself by making something very special to make up for not being there all day - having said that those mini muffins sound amazing! But do be gentle on yourself - it takes time to adjust to the new routine!
-
My little one didn't have as severe problems as Susyp or shaunag's ones but yes, I accidentally ate a sandwich with margarine on it and noticed the difference within about 5 hours. For me the only thing that worked was cutting out all dairy which was really hard - but we definitely had it easier compared to some other forumites! I would definitely see a doc if you are at all worried.

A builder friend swears by huggies to clean up mess after doing building work. Make of that what you will...

Definitely. My son's keyworker at nursery is male. They have an absolutely wonderful relationship and he is a brilliant role model for him.

Flora Poste from Cold Comfort Farm. And Nancy, Peggy, Titty and Dot from the Swallows and Amazons series (I never rated boring old Susan!).

Back to work - please tell me it'll be ok

I think it goes in fits and starts. Admittedly mine went to nursery from 10months old, so at the start he was just blissfully ignorant that my leaving meant I was gone for the day. Now it's much more of an issue so we try and involve him in it, like make sure he's peeking out of a bedroom window to waive goodbye down the street, helping to get my shoes for me, etc, etc, so involving him in the process. And talking about what we'll do at the end of the day together... And definitely they behave differently depending on who they are with. Massive screaming fit when I tried to do drop off one morning! -
MUM running club?? Who fancies it??
Yak replied to MOTHERSMEETINGS's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Glad it's just not me Mrs Glennie! Nursery staff are starting to get used to my alarmingly red and sweaty face. My top tip is to leave bottle of water and warm layer in the pram at nursery, so you don't seize and dehydrate too much once you've done pickup. -

Pickle, I fear the dark nights closing in too! I'm training for a 1/2 M and during the week I do medium speed run (prob about 10 mins mile pace) and/or hill session and/or sprints - let me know if you fancy meeting up one night. I normally run on a Mon (to nursery for pickup) and Wed/Thur nights. -
Cashewnut, I would say over the 4 month period of constant illness I think I took about 8 days off in total, but at least half of those were for time that I was sick myself as a result of looking after a poorly baby. And I worked from home a few times too. We have endless ear infections which generally mean one horrible day, couple of hideous nights, then 5 days of antibios (for which, if he's perky enough, he is packed back off to nursery, and now I'm getting better at spotting the ear infection signs he doesn't go downhill too far). Ditto approach to colds and coughs as oimissus - I tend to pack him off like the heartless working mother that I am! Saffron, I stopped bf just before nursery so can't help with that I'm afraid. On immunity, is it one of those possible benefits that those of us who use nurseries tell ourselves to validate the choices we have already made? I suspect it might be! Interesting though that recovery is linked to parental time off.
