  1. Hello parents, My twin girls are starting reception at the Fairlawn School this coming September and we were told that all their after school clubs are oversubscribed. The whole process is a bit daunting - how do parents usually address the gap between school and 6pm? Are there private after school clubs (if so, ay recommendations)? Do we look into a child-minder/nanny (anyone trustworthy)? Our kids are trilingual (German/English/Portuguese) so would be particularly interested in activities involving languages but at this point any ideas are extremely welcome! Thanks in advance for your help Daniel
  2. so where did your children ended up going to? We got accepted at Fairlawn!
  3. Hello forum I'm moving to the area tomorrow with my husband and twin girls and need to find a local GP. Any recommendations? We live near Brenchley Gardens/St Francesca Cabrini school. Ideally a GP that is good with children, not fussy about private referrals (we are privately insured) and that manages appointments via an online system.. Am I asking for too much? :) Thanks for the recommendations
  4. Teenagers, 8 year olds, 4 year olds... seems like I have a pool of parenting wisdom right at my doorstep :-) looking forward to meeting you all Daniel
  5. Hello everybody I just want to quickly thank all of you who responded - especially Johnny, Jemma, Lucy, Jules for the lovely private messages! The information has been super super helpful, I'm very excited to move there and hopeful that the girls will land in a good school, regardless of religious background. We should be in the area in October-ish, hope to meet some of you in person soon Daniel
  6. Thank you all for the answers! I'm already feeling the neighbourly love :) Fjgb: according to http://www.schoolcatchment.co.uk Fairlawn and Cabrini are the only primary schools in our catchment area, but I'll call the council to confirm that information. Uncleglen: thanks for sharing your experience. We are moving from Islington and here where we are the local catholic school was pretty progressive, there are 6 same sex families sending their children there, I've spoken to the parish about being a gay dad and he was very supportive of us applying. I will certainly take some of your advise to frame the right questions while speaking to their staff, though, I want to get a feeling for how they'd respond when the girls mention having two dad, for instance... Midivydale: I'll look up that school, thanks. It doesn't show up when I search for my catchment area online but I'll look specifically for it. Have a lovely weekend everyone!
  7. Hello community I am now putting an offer on a property in the area (Honor Oak park/Dulwich) and would love to connect with other parents, particularly gay dads and moms in the area. I am British/Brazilian and my husband is British/German, we are parents of twin girls born through surrogacy.. if you are out there and would like to connect let us know! Daniel
  8. Hello community, Myself and my partner are moving to the area and would love to hear your feedback on local schools. Our children (twin girls) are 2 1/2 yo and our initial research indicates that St Francesca Cabrini (catholic) or the Fairlawn School would be the closest to our home (we are in the border of Dulwich and Honor Oak Park). Have any of you sent your children to either of these schools and can share reccos? Additionally, any recommendations on nurseries nearby? We are a mixed race gay coupe and while I was raised catholic I'm uncertain about sending the kids to catholic school (views on the "traditional family", we are not raising our children catholic), although we hear catholic schools tend to be very good? Thanks in advance! Daniel
