GALA Music Festival 2024 Consultation
Dogkennelhillbilly replied to tomster's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That extending the event beyond 3 days is not just what Gala asked for at Peckham Rye, but also what already happens at other parks in London used for similar events. The facts are exactly opposite to your misinformed, angry waffle... ...buddy. 🤣 -
New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham - 2024 Edition
Dogkennelhillbilly replied to Joe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Birdhouse Brewing has opened up in the space formerly occupied by Canopy Brew Co, in the railway arches behind Norwood Rd. Cocktails, street food and DJs. Can do a little craft brew pub crawl with that and Bullfinch Brewery and the little wine bar under the bridge at the top of Half Moon Lane now... www.birdhousebrewing.com, I think -

1) that's exactly what Gala Festival was asking for at Peckham Rye 2) that's exactly what happens at Brockwell Park and Finsbury Park already You don't know what you're on about, pal https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/news/this-year-is-the-worst-it-has-been-residents-near-brockwell-park-hit-out-at-festival-noise-levels/ https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2018/jul/08/parks-festivals-gigs-councils-local-authorities-open-spaces-spending-cuts-music-summer -

Oh come off it. The punters are fenced in for the duration of the event. You're talking about "footfall in the area" but that's the 2 minutes between them arriving in the morning and staggering home in the evening after 12 hours of cider and adulterated cocaine. -
GALA Music Festival 2024 Consultation

Maybe. How much profit does the Council make from it? We don't know. What would be a fair price to put on the environmental degradation of thousands of small pieces of plastic, cigarette butts, zip ties...? -
P13 bus on diversion today 04/04/24
Dogkennelhillbilly replied to ctovey's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This is a weird complaint. I'm not sure if you're the same person who made it last time there is a similar bus diversion. Councillors can't just spend all their time posting on forums about anything that vaguely relates to their constituency even if it doesn't relate to their responsibilities. Their access to bus stop closure information (!) is just the same as yours. This is a TfL question and they're the only ones able to publish reliable information. Besides, if your point is that OAPs don't have iPhones to access the TfL information, how would they be accessing the East Dulwich Forum? (All the OAPs I know are constantly on Facebook anyway...) https://tfl.gov.uk/bus/route/p13/ -
Interesting solution to owning a cargo bike
Dogkennelhillbilly replied to Spartacus's topic in Roads & Transport
That's about what cargo ebikes cost. The motor and the battery are both amazing pieces of technology, but they don't come cheap. No-one looks twice at a £4000 car... -

By chance, I came across the story below. Admittedly there are 1 or 2 other things going on in the same story... https://www.riverfronttimes.com/news/swat-team-raids-innocent-family-over-stolen-airpods-dropped-on-their-street-42172867 -

Mayoral candidates - enironment and transport pledges
Dogkennelhillbilly replied to malumbu's topic in Roads & Transport
I just got a leaflet from Susan Hall. She's going all in on being anti-ULEZ and anti-LTN (a bold strategy considering when the local Tories tried to turn the last local election into a referendum on LTNs, they got pumped) and minimising any mention that she's a Conservative (the word "Conservative" appears once on the leaflet, which may be a clue that their brand is more toxic than a 20 year old diesel engine...). -
...by the /London subreddit (forum) on Reddit, anyway.

Inconsiderate parking outside local schools
Dogkennelhillbilly replied to malumbu's topic in Roads & Transport
Parking on zigzags is a police matter (as well as council, maybe?). You can report it within 7 days via the Met Police website. To make a prosecution viable, it's helpful to have clear photos or video of the offence, preferably a couple of minutes apart. Met Police will issue notices of intent to prosecute (NIPs) on the basis of photos alone - if they're decent quality and supported by a clear report form. https://www.met.police.uk/ro/report/rti/rti-beta-2.1/report-a-road-traffic-incident/ -

Phone thefts in East Dulwich
Dogkennelhillbilly replied to NicoleM's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I dunno, I was a kid! I didn't really pay much attention to the South London Press. I bet if one trawled through the archives there would be plenty of crime reports. But in any case, the actual prevalence of crime, the (media) reporting of crime, and the popular perception of crime are three different things with only a weak connection to each other. It is romanticising the past to suggest that the worst thing that ever happened was the kids got a fat lip. When was this idyllic decade? Not the 70s...or the 80s...or the 90s... In the 80s and early 90s around here it was practically a monthly ritual to be burgled or have your car (if you were lucky enough to have one) broken into. Things certainly are bad at the moment - is anyone else noticing a lot of smashed car windows? - but they've been bad before too: 1977, 1985... -
New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham - 2024 Edition

It is good, but it's a bit delicate. It's a proper meal with careful ingredients cooked well. It's not cheap and cheerful post-pub nosh. -
Phone thefts in East Dulwich
Dogkennelhillbilly replied to NicoleM's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
When I was a kid (which was not recently) I was robbed at knifepoint in Dulwich Park and stories of the Chelsea Smilers terrified every playground. Things are worse now but let's not romanticise the past either. -

Even the quality of the trolls has gone right down in recent years! In the old days, with a light touch and good timing, you could have got a good 5-6 pages out of that, maybe even a couple of forum flounces. This trolling here, though...sigh...it's just too heavy-handed and obvious. You didn't even connect it to some kind of culture war, like ULEZ or Brexit or vegans or working from home. Pitiful. -

Murder in peckham rye park
Dogkennelhillbilly replied to tedfudge's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As a follow up to this: "Four men have been jailed for a knife attack in Dulwich which left the [18 yo] victim with over 60 stab wounds...South Londoners Tashan Bailey-Brown, 23, Denzel Ealmeida, 22, Darren Soyemi, 25, and Kevaniel Perkins-Robinson, 21, were jailed for a total of 117 years for attempted murder." Sounds like amazing work by London Ambulance Service to keep this kid alive, and police and prosectors for a quick arrest and successful prosecution. Also worth acknowledging journalist Herbie Russell pf the Southwark News for covering the beginning and end of the story. But overall there is nothing to celebrate here. https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/dulwich/four-jailed-for-117-years-for-kingswood-estate-stabbing/
