Has anyone seen a pair of spectacles. Black rimmed, light, IC Berlin is the make. They were in a cylindrical case and I probably lost them about a week ago. Goodness knows where though. Thanks in advance. TQ

Panama I don't agree with many of the things you stated, certainly capital punishment hasn't made the United States a safer place. The point is don't ever bother starting a thread about crime in Dulwich. The debate always descends into the abyss. What you must remember is that most contributors on this forum would be perfectly at home in the Question Time audience.

Talking of dog pooh and I try not to cos I hate dogs with a passion is why is there so much of it about around Goodrich Road, Landcroft Road, Thompson Road etc, that quadrant up that end of Lordship Lane. There is either a dog, or dogs, with serious bowel problems or dog owner, owners, with a pathological hate of the community. Please advise. My hatred of dogs gets greater by the day as a result.

I think that's a very selfish attitude angetastic. Clearly people are getting injured/killed on a regular basis. And it's time to sort this out once and for all. I understand the argument against speed humps. I always find that those signs indicating your speed, backed up by cameras, are the best way to slow down traffic consistently.
-
I did inform the council about this a couple of years ago and they said they wouldn't be doing anything about it, partly I suspect because the emergency services use it for their needs _ irony being that they would use it less were Barry Road a safer place to drive. Barry Road has been a hellish place to drive up and down for years now. I don't know if you guys remember the incident a couple of years back on the corner with Upland when a car pulling out at 6 in the morning was hit by some nutter doing going at a ridiculous speed. Both cars ended up by the doorfront of Barry's off license. Lucky no one was hanging around, even the local fag poncer, to get mowed down! Time for humps, speed cameras, whatever...

Well said Pugwash. Exactly what needs to be done. I have been in touch with PC Ryan and PC Philips of the local neighbourhood team, and they are both insistent that people report crimes, whether large or small, and only then things can be done. The best reassurance anyone can get is, with all respect to the Lenks and Domitianus of this world, talking to people who may know a thing or two about what is going on.
-
Lenk, I suggest you leave this thread if you find it boring though I was deeply fascinated with your statistical bent. Olive started this thread wondering about the prevalance or lack of crime in Dulwich. A debate has ensued. Surely that is the point.
-
Domitianus, I am not trying to inflame anyone. Just stating the facts that Dulwich has been identified as a bit of a hotspot by the police. I've lived here best part of ten years - it's the best place in London - and I can feel that things have taken a turn for the worse recently. What we as a community must do as so eloquently relayed by Eliza D is be vigilant, report things to the police, be active citizens (that does not mean taking matters into our own hands). And soon enough, things will get back to normal. You say there hasn't been an upswing.....I suggest you call your local police station and speak to people in the know. I have.

I am bloody furious to hear about your elderly neighbour and furious about people constantly trying to calm people down with damn bloody statistics. One mugging of an elderly person is too much. One shooting on the street is too much. One gang fight is too much. The police are aware Barry Road is a hot spot for crime. Let's help them in calming things down. Report incidents. Call them up. Do not accept the crap any more.

What the hell is going on on Barry Road? (shooting)
TonyQuinn replied to TonyQuinn's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I started this thread and think that it's time it was put to bed. We're going round in circles, talking rubbish about UFOs. It happened, we all have to deal with it in our own way, no way is right or wrong. It's all very sad and slightly distressing but it's two days ago now and life goes on. Barry Road was back to normal yesterday and hopefully will remain that way for years to come. There are issues about violent crime in London and particularly around East Dulwich's environs and they're not going to go away. If one deals with Sunday's murder with bravado, all well and good and if someone deals with it by being a little bit scared, that's all well and good too. There's just no need to doubt one's motives and mock people within East Dulwich or criminalise anyone who happens to come from outside the neighbourhood. I think administrator that you close off this thread. Don't think it's doing anyone any good anymore! -
What the hell is going on on Barry Road? (shooting)

I think everyone is fully aware that the statistics show one thing. Yes, that is all well and good but at the end of the day statistics mean nothing when you have a dead man lying on your street. The community is very shaken by this, I certainly am and it's no good throwing statistics or arguing about postcodes. We are all in a state of shock and hopefully time will get us all back into some sort of normality. For now everyone, we have to deal with the shock and the horror and there's no reflection on anyone to say "Yes, I am scared." -

Andymat....get over your SE15 fixation. This can happen anywhere. Just spoken to a copper and he said the victim was local...ie from SE22. Why it happened who knows but i know that its grim. Just heard the wailing family. That is not something i want to experience on a Sunday evening. Think it was a hit. The police just took away a car, because the policeman told me it may have the shooter's handprint on...ie a hit! -

Are you sure its corner of Barry and Underhill. Certainly looks like corner of Barry and Upland to me. -

I'm glad you said that Mittens. EDF is full of smug middle class types and the responses so far show how smug this neighbourhood is. Wake up and smell the bacon East Dulwich. Someone has died...no reason to make pathetic jokes! -
?The owner of a Grade II listed mansion is on the run from police after being found guilty of letting a pack of dangerous dogs run wild, it was revealed today.< ?Tracy Thier kept up to 60 dogs, horses and two peacocks at Beltwood House in Dulwich causing chaos for neighbours and passers-by, Southwark Council said.< ?The dogs launched a number of vicious attacks on people passing the house leaving some with serious injuries needing surgery.< ?Local children were chased by the dogs, including Alsatians and German Shepherds, and the pack kept neighbours awake with night-long howling.< ?Some of the dogs escaped onto roads and railway lines causing accidents and rail delays.< ?When animal protection officers were called in to the 3.5 acre estate by worried neighbours they found the dogs and horses had been neglected and were in a poor condition.< ?Ms Thier was given an Asbo in 2007 banning her from keeping any animals in England and Wales and the animals were confiscated.< ?She refused to pay costs of #50,000 to Southwark Council and last year breached the terms of her Asbo by keeping five dogs in Lambeth.< ?But she fled the country before she could be sentenced for the breach last year and in January she was made bankrupt in her absence as a result of the unpaid fines.< ?Councillor Paul Kyriacou, Southwark's executive member for community safety, said: "This is a really appalling case and one of the worst situations of animal abuse I've heard of since becoming a councillor. We will do everything in our powers to ensure this woman is brought to justice.< ?"We are pleased that the dogs and horses will now be safe and given proper care and attention by Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and the International League for the Protection of Horses."< ?Earlier this month officers from Southwark Council's Anti-Social Behaviour Unit and Southwark police's Safer Neighbourhoods Team received the Borough Commander's Award for tackling severe animal nuisance as result of the case.<

Yes, they are truly awful. Think it's the reserve postmen though that are at fault. We have a lazy reserve postie who dumps my whole building's mail through my letter box making me the second reserve postie. Anyway, had enough, called up on following number 08456112448. Filed a complaint and it seems to have improved, though don't know if that's to do with the main man returning from wherever.

New Zebra Crossing on Lordship Lane.
TonyQuinn replied to karter's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
About time zebra crossing was put in. So many blind spots on Lordship Lane. Very dangerous strip! -
It's very dangerous along Surrey canal at night-time, and would urge everyone never ever to cycle through there during darkness. During the day it is well populated but keep your antennae on for any suspicious trouble. If in doubt, turn back and take the 63 bus route. Was whoever was attacked attacked at night-time?

How dare you Ted Max! I am not a council stooge, just a resident of our little hood. Just because someone says something that may not be to your sensibilities and experiences does not give you the carte blanche to discredit their motives. It was just a little thought and overwhelmingly shouted down. All the best Tony

Isn't it time we had residents parking in East Dulwich, especially around Barry Road area? I don't know about everyone else, but it is getting increasingly difficult to find somewhere to park. It seems that people from outside the hood are turning up and dumping their cars for the day - their right of course - to catch the god awful number 12 bus.

I repeat a previous comment I have put on the forum. Driving on Barry Road can be terrifying. They need to put speed bumps, traffic lights whatever to calm the traffic. A year or two back, at around 6 in the morning someone popped out of Upland Road and was struck by someone bombing it down Barry Road. Both ended up outside Barry's store. Lucky it was that early in the morning or there would be a shrine there now to the long lost much-missed dead! Calm down everyone.

Speed humps on bus routes (Barry Road)
TonyQuinn replied to kilmore's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This is my first post so welcome all. I just wanted to say that the more speed bumps on Barry Road the better. I live on Barry Road and by crossing it I put my life in God's hands. People just bomb down it. Not long ago we were awaken bright and early cos a car looking to get out of Upland got smashed by some guy doing 90 on Barry. Result, two cars flew towards Barry's off license. By complete luck no one was anywhere near or they would have perished. Not even that little squirt who stands around on the corner of Upland and Barry bumming fags!
