  1. I had acupuncture just before becoming pregnant from a lovely local woman called tracy goulding - http://www.essentialtherapia.com/breech.html - she works at a practice on crystal palace road and sometimes from home. I can't recommend her highly enough, less expensive than others (e.g. at the vale practice, tho angelo is also very nice) and just generally warm yet professional. Good luck!
  2. i love the tip on lying about pick up time - brilliant! that def makes sense, like telling your husband you have to be at friends half an hour before you've agreed with friends, so you're not late :)

  4. i ate feta whilst pregnant as i thought it was pretty safe to eat, unlike brie & stilton etc. which can be a bit dodgy. i think the worst thing with feta would be a tummy upset rather than it actually having anything harmful - apparently the cheese avoidance is largely down to the risk of food poisoning (which can cause miscarriage if you're really unlucky) so on the whole it seems best to trust your instincts :)
  5. john lewis has an excellent range or you could try some of the charity shops - there is one on walworth rd (before you get to boots on that side of the road after leaving camberwell heading twds elephant) that i know often has wool and ends of fabrics... otherwise maybe online a good option too?
  6. peckham pulse do swimming lessons for all ages and they seem very well taught (i've been in the fast lane next to lanes for swimming lessons and the instructor has been very patient and dsnt put any pressure on, very good way of teaching kids and they seem to respond really well) - good luck :)
  7. Willis B and most local hairdressers do children's hair but I'm not sure of the cost - otherwise I would imagine the barber on Lordship Lane also does children's hair (near SMB organic grocers)
  8. I used reusables after about 2 months... have to say all my worries were unfounded, you just stick them in a bucket ready to wash once used (they don't stink quite like the disposables either) and save a lot of money and less hassle as you don't have to change the bin so often! I started just using them in the house, that's the way to build confidence in using them. Only downside is they're more padded than disposables so it can limit what the baby is dressed in. All in all I would recommend reusables as I think the thought of using them is worse than the reality. Give it a whirl :)
  9. On cold nights I used blankets in the moses basket and warm PJs (you can also put socks and hat on if you think it's very cold - invest in a thermometer, you can get good ones from john lewis and places like that that you can use as a thermometer for baby and for the room temp OR baby monitors often have room temp thermometers too). As long as you ensure baby is swaddled well the blankets etc. shouldn't come loose. The advice I was given was take care baby doesn't overheat as that is far more dangerous than the baby getting a bit cold (tho obviously only a bit chilly, not seriously cold). If you're worried then heating is probably the best option. Good luck :)
  10. when do you go? it'd be nice to try a class with another mum there if poss
  11. i've never heard of this either - must be well hidden! - sounds good, might give it a go
  12. i had some tracksuit bottom / stretch trousers from peacocks and they were excellent - stretchy waistband too so you could either roll it up over your tummy or down to under your bump. i literally lived in them and they only cost ?6 but were probably the most useful item of clothing i had during pregnancy. in this weather you will probably be most comfy with leggings that fit under your bump and loose fitting tops. good luck with the last few weeks, i don't envy you in this heat!
  13. thanks everyone, will def start going to some classes i think - i have experienced theo at the ED leisure centre before and yikes he was tough even before i was pregnant so hate to think what it'd be like now! - have started going swimming once a week and that's a real treat as you actually get to think at the same time as exercise :)
  14. Lansinoh once a day at least - even when they're not cracked or sore (as preventative measure) but generally this is down to baby not latching on properly so would agree with above, good idea to go to breastfeeding cafe and get some tips... my baby didn't latch on properly for first few days and best advice i had when struggling a bit with tiredness of BF was to wait til 6 weeks and it would then get easier, thankfully it did! good luck, it's worth it, think of the benefits for baby x
  15. ...or bumps n babes in the community centre next to the church off east dulwich road / adys rd mondays 10-12
  16. linkway cars 8299 4444 or 8693 4444 sorry can't remember which prefix but directories will have... just watch they don't overcharge you - some taxi companies apparently charge double just because they know you're in a hurry i've always found linkway to be reasonable and reliable, taxi rank is based on east dulwich road
  17. still on - community centre next to church on goose green (nr adys rd, set back from east dulwich road) 10am-12pm ?1.50 contribution for tea & biccies pregnant women welcome as well as those with small babies & toddlers
  18. we have limited boot space and i have read a few reviews but wondered if anyone had a convertible or similar they manage to squeeze a buggy into (for when baby is 6 months +) any advice gratefully received thanks :)
  19. i find the staff generally very nice and friendly but overall i think most stuff is overpriced compared to sainsburys - tho the co-op own brand stuff is nice and reasonable. can't say i really notice much of a difference since they changed from somerfield tho
  20. i had a bike stolen that i hadn't ridden for over a year - it was rusting away with 2 completely flat tyres so needed a lot of work (plus some kids had tampered with the nuts n bolts presumably to try and get the wheels off - this was before they went flat!) - the thieves cut through my lock, the bike was in the flats' communal garage... amazing what people will steal - usually when you least expect it!
  21. i have tried sit ups but wondered if anyone had any other good ones that they could recommend... i've tried the thing you twist on in dulwich park and that seems quite good :)
  22. Fuschia Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You can go up to Kings I believe and see Claire > Kedvers... She is absolutely lovely and an expert in everything to do with breastfeeding :)
  23. ...my pram doesn't fold as it's flat carrycot til he's 6 months, i think it's just the pushchairs that actually fold up BUT bearing in mind most have to lug around food shopping and countless bits n bobs for baby sometimes you just can't fold them up. i agree with above post, most of the time is rush hour in london let's face it and sometimes there is the odd occasion you can't help but get on a bus in peak travelling time. i know years ago stripy folding buggies were the norm but nowadays it's all change and even if you fold it the luggage rack is often full of bags so it's no win really. glad it's summer and i can walk most places, dreading winter as i guess it will be the sling and sore shoulders!!
  24. ...for fear of carrying this post on way too long than it has already been going, i cannot help but say i am pretty shocked that people are more bothered about someone giving another person a mouthful than the fact that smoking is proven to pose a serious risk to the life of an unborn child. even if you think she should have minded her own business, i think it's important that some people are reminded how their behaviour impacts on others. if you all disagree with her actions do you feel the same way about hitting a child or mistreating it in some other way? i doubt it very much. smokers posting on here seem to want a medal for quitting while pregnant. we all give up things when pregnant like ciggies, caffeine, alcohol, certain cheeses etc. but obviously some can cause more harm than others. i gave up some stuff but hey that's life, a baby is a blessing and just as you give up a good night's sleep i reckon you should also give up smoking. comparing it to crossing the road or taking other day to day unavoidable risks is just silly. i have to say that all this rubbish above about how the stress of giving up can be worse than actually smoking is a load of old tosh too! i wdnt be brave enough to tell someone off for smoking while pregnant but i think it's disgusting and agree with Lig - cue more postings having a go at me no doubt but hey i cdnt care less what y'all think, everyone's entitled to speak their mind! :)
  25. my friend saw it today at the big scream (showing for mums n babes at brixton ritzy on friday mornings) and she thought it was ace :)
