  1. Me too - anyone got any suggestions for this or other nurseries in Honor Oak? Thanks :)
  2. I followed the current advice (at the time - last year) which was hold off solids until 6 months... I believe that has now changed to 4 months - which is what it used to be. I would say ignore the books, Gina Ford Shmord and follow your instincts, if your baby looks hungry she probably is! I really regret listening to all the health visitors and nutritionists as tho they may think they know what they are talking about the reality is nobody really knows the cause and root of allergies and other health conditions. My baby was always a big boy and could have done with solids from 4 months. Instead I held off til 5.5 months at which time I found it a struggle to wean him and get him eating more. Babies don't just sleep through because they are full obviously so all the people who say "don't do it just because of that" I would again ignore - in the nicest possible way!! :) Good luck, try loads of flavours when you do try foods, and don't put too much pressure to make everything yourself as there are some really good brands out there which are organic and nutritious, but far less time consuming...
  3. ...i think it is okay as long as people use the stuff they grab for free, can't imagine many make a business out of it tho could be naieve
  4. I think it would be a good idea to have separate areas of the forum for property to rent or flat shares from property for sale, as it is almost impossible to sift out what you want using the search button. Might this be considered please? Thanks
  5. i'm not a royalist but have never been to a street party and they sound like fun so i'm all for it - hey if we have to pay for it why not celebrate our day off :)
  6. I would consider the fact that the flu jab doesn't actually prevent you getting flu, it just lessens the symptoms when you have flu. My advice is drink more orange juice to get your vit C, washing your hands regularly, and whatever else you can to keep happy & healthy - far more effective at preventing you catching anything nasty!
  7. Locale is nice but not sure if 'special' enough - great if you don't want to trek into town :)
  8. Bumps n Babes is Mon morning and great for new mums to meet... Bea's classes are fab, she plays the guitar and older babies have a go with instruments etc. Baby sensory is good once they are a few months old - various activities and singing, classes held at christian life centre on Honor Oak Rd so not too far, or just search the forum for mums due at around the same time and you're sure to meet a few mummys to be in the same boat - I did! I also met people at Kings hospital classes or if you do NCT classes that's another good way to meet people. Good luck with motherhood :)
  9. there is also a great pilates class above health matters on lordship lane that do eve classes
  10. Medela pump is great and can be used with batteries or mains... I have same problem with medicine but find doing it half a dose at a time with a syringe is okay or a spoon is actually fine if you let them choose to open their mouth first
  11. Sitaram are really good, they used to do one at St Barnabas (Dulwich Village) in the eves but not sure now, you'd have to check out their website for more info on class times
  12. My baby was the same, thankfully the activity mats generally dry really quickly after being washed!
  13. We got an Oxo Sprout and love it tho they are expensive (200 from john lewis) - sooo glad we didn't go for a wooden one (formerly my favourite) as he has decided it is great fun to bang his head against the back when he has had enough food! Plus you can use them from 6 months til around 5 yrs old, so you get your moneysworth :)
  14. I am with Melbourne Grove and was impressed by midwife service when pregnant last year so I guess it's swings n roundabouts as I know that surgery gets a lot of bad press but I find it OK (aside from the 'nurse call back' arrangement). My friend is with the surgery on Forest Hill Road and stayed with them even when she moved as she thought so highly of the doctors there so might be worth registering there? Best of luck with the rest of the pregnancy
  15. Thursdays 11-8, Sundays 11-4, Mondays closed, Tues/Weds/Fri/Sat 10.30-5.30 Pop up shop selling recycled, handmade and vintage www.skipsisters.co.uk
  16. No need to book and it's free! Another one on 18th December
  17. 10am-3pm by the lost children meeting point, next to the cafe
  18. alex (junior) does cut price colours for ?10 there - maybe ring her and book in, at least it won't cost the earth to have it rectified. she cut my hair and did an amazing job, so i'm sure she's good at colouring too :)
  19. try streetbank - i lent mine from a lovely local woman who had hers listed on there :)
  20. shop online then enter "BISC" when checking out for the discount - valid until end november :)
  21. my baby has been teething since he was around 3 months old but still no teeth at 7 months (aaagh) - try bonjela or dentinox teething gel if nelsons teething granules don't work - try those first as they're homeopathic as opposed to gawd knows what in the gel! calpol works a treat if he gets worse symptoms like a temperature or is in a great deal of discomfort/pain. hoep it eases soon if it's not teething!!
  22. use moneysupermarket.com or one of the price comparison websites and they'll find you the cheapest (you can also look at the policiy info before you buy) or if you have time switch your bank account to one that includes free travel insurance - i bank with alliance & leicester and they give you annual (free) travel insurance :)
  23. From what I can gather it's bad to stop mid way through as if you catch something nasty again you may be immune to the antibiotics... so always best to finish the course if at all possible, even if they seem to have worked their magic quickly!
  24. I had acupuncture just before becoming pregnant from a lovely local woman called tracy goulding - [www.essentialtherapia.com] - she works at a practice on crystal palace road and sometimes from home. I can't recommend her highly enough, less expensive than others (e.g. at the vale practice, tho angelo is also very nice) and just generally warm yet professional. If you read about acupuncture generally (just google it and you'll find lots of info and articles) it can be useful for all sorts of things, including turning a breech baby, I assume by the stimulus tho acupuncturist will obviously explain how & why. I think you can only use this as a treatment late on so you should be fine in terms of time. Good luck!
  25. I'm researching local childcare and wondered if anyone had any feedback to give on the Little Saints nursery on Glengall Road? It's got a good location and is near 2 other nurseries so on the face of it seems quite appealing but any info would be gratefully received. Thanks :)
