former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?

There is no doubt you were dedicated to your cause and had to make many difficult decisions along the way. Not an easy job to judge everyone's hopes and expectations and you did it well. -
Good morning Guy :)

Do you want Controlled Parking YES or NO
Mick Mac replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree, this can happen singalto. But its not always the case, we regularly see people parking inconsiderately, without thought for space being generally limited, but instead just so that's its easy for them to later move out of the bigger space they have utilised. -

How about ignoring CPZ and instead having signs in the area encouraging people to park closely together for the consideration of others seeking space. -
I'm not a fan of Pizza Express anyway - urgh - defo I chain that I wouldn't think would enhance LL. I don't think the Pizza Express in the Village is relevant, I think more that Franco Manca etc are better and nearby competition. We are short of a really good restaurant though, or something cool like Voodoo Ray. But ED isn't cool in the way Peckham is cool I guess. I think we have enough retail - I rarely went to Londis. Surely everything it sells is also available nearby.

https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186338-d2397787-Reviews-The_Crown_and_Greyhound-London_England.html Racist restaurant manager, told fully booked but untrue! If I could give this pub zero I would. We visited this lunchtime and I wasn't convinced I wanted to try the restaurant as it was empty. However, my husband wanted to try it after its refurb and I agreed. We had been to my son's communion so were nicely dressed (sons in suits and husband, with me and my husband's cousin in nice dresses and jackets). I would mention my husband is British, of Nigerian parents. However, despite the restaurant being empty aside from people drinking outside the front, the restaurant manager told us there weren't any tables available. We left and I commented to my husband that I'd seen 2 bookings on the list and I didn't believe they were booked up. He was aghast at the suggestion and whilst we went next door to lovely Rocca (Italian restaurant) he gave them a ring. He gave a typically British name of John and was told there would be a table within 10-20 minutes, no problem. As we had been blatantly lied to, my husband went to speak to the restaurant manager again. He lied again and said they'd had a cancellation. Unfortunately for him the General Manager was there and knew something was not right. After some heated words, we spoke to the general manager and left. I am simply staggered that this has happened in such a multicultural area as Dulwich but having now read the reviews about the food and service generally I am glad we didn't eat here. Shame on the restaurant manager and what a shame this kind of prejudice exists in London. Think carefully before visiting this pub.

But I didn't think "normal" discrimination would be a hate incident, for example unfair treatment in the workplace - I wonder if what diffentiates Amber Rudd's speech is that its a very public speech which could have the potential to incite racial hatred, and hence when someone complains about it, as a hate speech, it needs to be logged as a hate incident, which then needs to be further assessed to see if it has potential to be a hate crime.

Just thinking about the reference above where someone referred to this as an accusation of being "criminal" racism, I'm pretty sure that not right. (if it happened as the OP suggests) According to the Citizens Advice Bureau definitions, I don't think it falls into a hate incident (a number of categories are listed) and therefore seems it wont be a racist hate crime either https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/law-and-courts/discrimination/hate-crime/racist-and-religious-hate-crime/ My reading of this is that racial discrimination itself is not necessarily a crime. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/law-and-courts/discrimination/discrimination-because-of-race-religion-or-belief/discrimination-because-of-race/ Its more likely to be a civil matter: "The law which says you mustn?t be discriminated against is called the Equality Act 2010. If you?ve been discriminated against, and you?ve not been able to sort things out with the person or organisation who?s discriminated against you, you can make a claim in the civil courts." Its a very important distinction. The word criminal shouldn't be used inappropriately as it is likely to escalate a matter like this. IF this did happen I think the OP has a number of options, but its not criminal. An appropriate resolution between the parties, financial or otherwise, is as much as will happen if proven, assuming there was no hostility or threat.

If the benefits have been taxed fully through PAYE, as you say, and therefore included in the P60 gross pay, and no P11d issued then you shouldn't be repeating them anywhere on the self assessment tax return, or you will be double reporting as its already included in gross pay number. If you and your employer are definitely on the system that DaveR highlights above, than you can ask your employer for the following information: "You can give this information on your employees? payslips or in a separate note or statement. It should be clear to the employees: ?what benefits have been subject to PAYE tax ?how much of the value of each benefit you?ve collected and reported tax on If your employees fill in a Self Assessment tax return they?ll need this information so they can tell HMRC." Once you have this statement you should be able to forward to HMRC to resolve the situation. In summary, your employer should be helping you more with this.

Does anyone know if the BB staff are being retained by Harri's? The staff were always very nice.

Presumably a factor in this is the reputation of Dulwich schools and the need to financially incentivise pupils to attend is no longer thought so necessary. -
