  1. I have just joined too Declan - but my inclusion should not bother you - I only have 800 points.
  2. Let there be Rock - AC DC (Bon Scott's spirit lives on in Overhill Road)

Most pundits say they will fall away but I think they will make the champions league places (possibly at the expense of Arsenal - sorry Arsenal fans). I also have backed MU from near the start of the season at 10/3 and added a recent saver on Liverpool!

  5. I wanna know what love is - Foreigner
  6. Anna - it was not taken the wrong way at all - I love a bit of banter, you should definately not worry - I made a provoking comment (which was intended to be funny) and your reply was spot on and funny too with a smily after so I knew it was in good grace - I actually don't have much time for diplomatic people and like to have a good argument. Although I'm new to EDF I have been reading it for years and think the best posts are the ones that provkoe a response, good or bad, although over time you get to know who will make nice friendly comments and who will not, so you get an idea of the personailites. On a related point - Although I was double booked last night I do also think that its good fun not knowing the people on EDF too well. I quite like the anonimity. I have in my mind these fantastically interesting/funny people and I think sometimes it might be best to keep their cyber identities in my head - I find it fascintaing wondering what the people behind the posts might be like, what do others think, once you have been to these EDF drinks do you start to recognise people everywhere in ED? ps: Is there any easy way to spell check entries entiries before sending - i have this facitily at work and it always picks up my spelling of immediatley and definately (both wrong probably)
  7. If "one" was 65 and looking back on your life, one might think there is nothing worse that one could have done with ones life other than spending most of it in an office, working with numbers on a spreadsheet - but nevertheless, thats what I do and I can't see that changing - If you are 30something and single, I'd encourage you to follow your dreams, try something different, play to your strengths and don't be a slave to a monthly pay packet/mortgage etc.

Yes Anna - you probably make a good impression on them. I'm impressed that you go to the Liverpool away games, thats very committed. It seems most prople I know who are into football are Liverpool fans and I guess that comes from Liverpool being successful when some people were growing up - what was the reason for your support?, are you from Liverpool? Growing up in Ireland in the 70s it was all Liverpool (most popular as regular champions) followed by MU (George Best etc) and Arsenal (having a large Irish contingent - Brady, Stapleton jennings etc) and Leeds!. I'm not sure who young people support these days. It was good to see Robbie Keane on MOTD having 2 nominations on goal of the month, but do you think he should have played today? Is Alan Green right that Rafa is too cautious - are Liverpool fans in general happy? It seems the most interesting EPL for years with a number of teams that could win it and also Villa mixing in too. Apart from a few quid on MU, Im neutral, but its certainly fascinating this year and hopefully it will stay close into spring. Arsenal could do with a change of manager though - the voyeur has had his time.
  9. Watching Livepool on setanta and its Stoke who look most likely to score - Rafa's about to make a change which may help - but he does like to leave it late - I'm sure if he had a proper striker (Kuyt doen't count) on from the start they may have put this to bed by now.....
  10. Oh yes - i remember seeing this guy Richard Dawkins speak on tv recently - i thought he spoke very well and I agreed with pretty much everything he said - I'm all for a secular society. Humanism seems to give a name to what i feel about society/religion etc. So I might look into it more.
  11. Yes - I'm interested in Miles' feedback too. Was not able to go myself last night but hope Miles found something of interest to him.....
  12. I have to confess to having a bet on MU - my preference for them is mainly financial - but I prefer attacking football - Ferguson and Martin O Neill for me play the most attacking football. I grew up a Liverpool fan and loved their football as far back as Keegan and Toshack - but think Liverpool made a mistake going down the european manager route. They could have had Martin O Neill when they went for Rafa and I think if they had they would have won the title by now, MON's teams do not mess about -they go for the jugular - lots of width and speed.
  13. Cautious Rafa leaves his two recognised strikers on the bench - If I were robbie keane I 'd get out of there, he's too good to be a support player.
  14. Good luck Sean - i presume you have an accumulator of some sort - I gave up on these a few yers back - some dumb team would always let me down, I hope you make the bookies cry today though.
  15. PR - Can you give the uneducated (me) a brief summary of Humanism. I'm athiest but not sure if I would also fit as a Humanist.
  16. I have just watched this and think (unfortunately) rafa is feeling the heat - if you start complainig about others having preferential treatment you are bound to look weak. I know it was well rehearsed and well delivered but that does not matter I think he looks weak by going public with this - ferguson must be laughing his jock socks off. I'm not a man united fan but feel they are best placed to win the league - I'd like to see liverpool do it but having watched a couple of home draws (they seem to be on Setanta a lot) I feel Rafa is too cautious to win the premiership - I don't mind MU winning it as i feel they play the most attacking football of the big 4 - although Villa now have claims to to be most attacking. I think Liverpool depend upon shots from outside the box for too many of their goals and when a defence sits back they have trouble scoring at home. Away from home they get more space and have no problems but Rafa is too cautious at home and its at home where the league is won and lost - i feel Liverpool could have had a healthy cushion with another 6 points and lost a huge opportunity with 3 draws before christmas (fulham, west ham and hull). I feel if MU win tomorrow they will then be in the driving street.
  17. Sounds like you guys had a great night - how often do these get togethers happen?
  18. Its very funny HB but the problem with the parable is its slightly outdated - nowadays birds are not happy to sit at home all day with the kids. They want to get out too. I think also the talk of families goimg to the pub creates the wrong impression - most people I know would not dream of going to the pub with kids in tow - however families go to the Herne and the Dog for a family meal - its the rise of the gastro pub which has resulted in the greying of the area between what is a pub and what is a restaurant.
  19. I'm sure a child lying on the floor is an isolated incident. If I was young/single I'd probably give the Herne a miss, or at least not complain about children when there are hundred other pubs to go to. The Herne has a large back garden, do childrens parties, have built a climbing area for kids therefore you'd expect lots of kids. The advantage of the Herne is that it is an enclosed space and parents feel their children are relatively safe there. Of course children should be supervised at all times but sometimes kids go off in different directions. When we go with other parents we usually have a rota with parents taking turns to supervise on the garden area so as many can enjoy their meal as possible. Its a great pub, set up for families during the day (no kids after 8pm I think). Parents don't get out much so please don't be too critical. With babysitters at ?7 per hour its nice to get out during the day for lunch where the kids can enjoy themselves.:(
  20. HonaloochieB - Oh you are offal, but they like you.
  21. The Foxtons "shop" brightens up the "strip". Don't mind if it stays. Spoke to that Warren McCann chap once - he seemed like a nice guy and, like others on the thread, I would not like to see more people losing jobs, even estate agents have bills to pay.
