The Post Offices and the Royal Mail should be renationalised. Massive mistake privatising industries where competition doesn't work properly and certainly does not offer any advantage to end users.

Yeah but the colour of the rosette makes all the difference..?

Owners of East Dulwich Tavern go into Administration
mrwb replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Probably, though presumably some of them must be losing money, there must be debt to service or other issues to cause the administration. At macro level, there are probably too many similar businesses for them all to survive. I find myself wondering similar about all the cafe's we have now. -
Silvertown and Blackwall tunnel consultation on charges

TFL need revenue so no surprise here... Got to get it from somewhere. -
Green landslide incoming :)?

New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham - 2024 Edition
mrwb replied to Joe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
What is opening next to the EDT where there was a clothes shop before iirc? Saw a license application in the window on the way past today. -
Advice welcomed - potential dog kennel hill estate flat purchase
mrwb replied to Ves89's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Unfortunately a lot of people are very naïve, which plays in to their hands, I recommend reading this: https://www.propertysolvers.co.uk/articles/why-do-estate-agents-lie/ -
Advice welcomed - potential dog kennel hill estate flat purchase
mrwb replied to Ves89's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Be very careful about what the estate agent tells you and make sure you independently verify it... They have no obligation to be honest with you..., usually the reverse in fact, they'll often just tell you what you want to hear to get the deal done. -
I used to use 500 degrees when it was on that site. Pretty tough for all the independents now with Megans, Chipotle and other independent restaurants all opening at the bottom end of Lordship lane. So much competition. There's also 3 Italian places at least. Isn't the Italian cafe going to rebrand as well soon?

New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham - 2024 Edition
mrwb replied to Joe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Then the rents would go up and it'd end up with all the same corporate chains on Lordship Lane, I quite like Rye Lane and around Peckham Rye near the old Lido. Has some interesting places. -
Personally can't imagine anyone being enthused with any of the candidates in that book they sent around..., but that's just me. Whoever is Mayor will have the same financial constraints and it won't make much if any difference.

Don't they take cash ?

Golden Kitchen is good for take away and they have their own website and drivers.

Hmm, Let's see, started with Meta a few weeks ago, then we had Microsoft, then McDonalds and Now Sainsbury's and Tesco... Probably others I've forgotten about as well. Somehow I doubt this is a coincidence. People say you can go cashless..., but you clearly can't if you want people to be able to pay when technology breaks down, is ddosed or whatever.

TFL and the councils are as cash strapped as everyone else is. That's the bottom line, not going to make any difference who is Mayor or who is running the council. Screwed regardless, you can't get blood out of a stone. Things have remained pretty benign economically but like the 70s,80s,90s economic problems I doubt it will stay like that for too much longer.

Nothing received here. Just waiting for the inevitable parking permit bill, doesn't matter what we do.

It's total gridlock at the bottom end of Streatham high road every afternoon from what I've seen... Lambeth have previous with the closure at Loughborough junction, iirc that only got removed when someone died or nearly died as it slowed down the ambulance / blocked them in so much. Pretty sure the fines must have dried up for the LTNs around here by now, most people got wise to them, that £1m in fines in 3 months is a distant memory for the council... Given it's always been about revenue generation imo, won't be surprised if they're changed to try and trap people again somehow.

what is going on with permit charges from southwark council?
mrwb replied to trinidad's topic in Roads & Transport
The council is struggling with inflation as well. It's really as simple as that. You wonder why they want to roll out the CPZ everywhere? Even in the "gated communities" like court lane where there are barely any cars thanks to the LTNs already. Money, money, money. -
Sarp on opposite corner from M&S near ED station. I had mine done on Saturday, really useful shop, think usually only open in the afternoon.

Looks like they gritted around it. I do wonder why so many pipes burst now, don't remember it happening so much in 10 or 20 years ago.

Weird anonymous "war on motorists" leaflets on Burbage Rd
mrwb replied to Dogkennelhillbilly's topic in Roads & Transport
Wouldn't surprise me from people in the likes of Velde way on East Dulwich Grove or people who live on the South circular around Dulwich Common estate. They're stuck with traffic outside their house 24/7 meanwhile the mansions around Court Lane get to live in a traffic free wonderland... Not sure why they leaflets would be done on Burbage exactly, restrictions around there are timed at least. I guess the increased parking fees have something to do with it ?
