rendelharris Really every time I've been through EC it's been a nightmare especially while they were building the cycle lanes. GG roundabout is a shocker though.

Tiny new car park in Peckham rye park
pop9770 replied to dimples's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes it's currently too small and the new one isn't any bigger should be twice the size of the existing car park. The size Peckham Rye should be going for would be along the lines of Dulwich Park possibly even bigger. If they're going to do it WyTF not do it properly! There's plenty of space ... only not sufficient space in the brains of these incompetent Southwark employees if the community were given a voice we'd all be asking for a much bigger car park it's not as though the Rye can't fit one in. -
It's only been a problem since the bus lanes and bus stopps were introduced. Before then it was busy but it flowed. Like most of London,,, Traffic lights Bus lanes and TFL nonsense has resulted in traffic crawling and drivers going berserk. Look at Elephant and Castle what a mess. Another bit of London/Southwark bad design which only drives people insane and is causing danger whilst masquerading as progress. The GG roundabout causes traffic to snarl up because it's not two lanes it's one and it's confused that it's two utterly bonkers .. add to that buses are bigger cars are bigger people are bigger everything is bigger they really need to make the route around the roundabout bigger. Reduce or remove the middle and make it two lanes or make it clearly one lane with only one lane entry at every entrance one or the other because at the moment it's a mess of confusion it's neither! It's a death trap just waiting for a fatal accident. It would be interesting IF (and I hope there never is) there was a fatality and it was shown the design was part of the cause (we all know the design is deadly just read the comments on here) then someone at Southwark would be done for manslaughter. I vote the over paid Head of the Southwark road planning team and any over paid minions who designed this garbage. If that were possible then we would all probably be looking at a GG roundabout which worked instead of the crock of s?it we have. It's like the Croydon tram accident they should have added tech to the trams to control speed to keep the trams from speeding around corners when that tech became available. GG roundabout should be designed to flow and keep everyone moving safely .. It isn't doing that SO it's unfit for purpose! The planers need to fix it before there's a fatality. Maybe the money they're spending on double yellow lines at every junction should be going on a fix at GG roundabout ?

Also Heygate is yet another Southwark incompetence they sold it for less than 25% of its true value disgusting. -
Proposed 10km new double yellow lines across Dulwich
pop9770 replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Like I said Job creation money must be spent ! The new double yellow lines will result in at least 280 fewer parking the real loss may be double that figure ! AND the end result / game is CPZ BE in no doubt These extra lines are 90% needless and they may actually increase the speed and danger at junctions as has been highlighted above by others. BUT this is a totalitarian socialist Southwark council and when it comes to getting tax payer money and spending that money and making up more council "jobs" we the local tax payer are being fleeced and abused . It's a disgusting waste of money and abuse of resources ... and we can't do a think about it !!! We're just being shafted ... One step closer to borough wide CPZ even then Southwark road "planner" won't be happy after the CPZ it'll be even fewer parking spaces as has happened in Lambeth and Wandsworth Totally Disgusting -
As ever UK planning is a dogs dinner of confusion designed for job creation not more / better homes. It could be very simple ... but nooooooo they just make everything over complex ..

None. I agree the accidents are down to bad / fast driving. But there are reasons this roundabout increases bad / fast driving... Does the design size and layout create frustration which causes many drivers to go berserk because it needlessly slows traffic and constricts the approach of vehicles which makes for an angry situation for all? The poorly marked lanes are NOT clear they have squeezed two clear lanes which go into one/two unclear lanes. It's a mess. The levels of difficulty and frustration are high and that's what causes the speeding the anger excess difficulty resulting in rage. If it was clearly marked as 1 lane into 1 lane around the roundabout then that would possibly reduce the high stress levels for the vehicles navigating all the problems as it would take one difficulty away. Ideally take as many difficulties away as possible./. Ideally it would be designed to flow in a steady way .. currently it does not it confuses and frustrates and that makes for slow progress for all vehicles. It's as if it's been designed to make drivers go berserk and give them more difficulty that needed. It's piece of bad design and incompetence thanks to tfl and the planners .. who should be sacked or worst made to navigate GG roundabout every day every hour!

Also if the maximum length is 3metres that's a big problem because most side extensions will need to be 5-7 metres long to go the full length of the rear part of the house. So 80+% of ED side extensions will still require planning . I maybe have read the rules incorrectly ?

You should find the answer on their web site here's the link See the red patch north of Dulwich Village on the map http://www.thameswater.co.uk/thameswaterlive/index.htm

LOL Almost every year a vehicle hits and damages the GG roundabout IT IS TOO BIG FOR THE SPACE maybe REDUCE IT IN SIZE so the two lanes of traffic can actually get round or reduce the approach to ONE lane ? Maybe that?s too obvious ? How is it that many other similar roundabouts don?t have the problems of GG roundabout? Do we have a different type of driver in ED ? NOT the same drivers who navigate similar roundabout layouts in Beckenham and Penge which are well designed and allow traffic to flow having suitable roundabout and lane sizing. ------------- The list of bonkers bad design features at and before the GG roundabout is long many above have highlighted them, The fixes listed will be obvious to anyone who knows and navigates GG roundabout. Why have SOUTHWARK road planning failed to fix such a badly designed black spot .. dogs dinner.. of a roundabout? GG roundabout is a classic Southwark road danger blackspot Southwark incompetence and TFL incompetence combines to make progress dangerous and frustrating for all. IF Southwark and TLF do try to "fix" this it'll cost ?500,000+ take 12+ months and probably result in several deaths and life changing accidents whilst causing traffic to backup to Forest Hill Nunhead and Camberwell. Maybe get the road planning team chained together on GG roundabout (I doubt there's enough space some will need to perch on the shoulders of their incompetent colleagues) until they come up with a solution . Yes I know it?s obvious to everyone else and they are likely to die of starvation before they come up with a simple cheap fix ? it?s all hundreds of thousands or millions thrown at fixing a problem which anywhere else in the world it would be 1/8 the price ? WHY because it keeps them busy in a job fleecing the local tax payer for work which isn?t required ? and keeps the contractor in Yachts and Private Jets Hilarious if it wasn?t such a frustrating dangerous badly designed black spot affecting the quality and safety of people on a daily basis.

Car > addicts will say any old rot to try and make > people as scared of change as they are. Shame on > you Dulwich Fox! > > Please be mindful of the air quality and obesity > crises London is facing and CHANGE YOUR WAYS! Tuffstuff100 The unfortunate reality is No Car Parking = Bankrupt Businesses I agree with you on air quality and other issues but the reality is many businesses need customers and the majority of customers are passing trade and most drive cars mostly for good reasons. Sales Reps Mums with children Old people People on their way to work .. further away that it is reasonable to cycle People who are physically incapable of cycling especially in poor weather Etc Etc You feel strongly that everyone should cycle but you must be realistic for most people cycling simply isn't practical. Now the problem with cutting parking for businesses is creating a worst environmental issue WHY As an example my elderly neighbours don't go shopping on Lordship Lane or Peckham Rye they don't even go locally for a coffee or lunch. Where do they go .... Bluewater Lakeside or a Sainsburys. So removal of local parking = increased pollution because car drivers travel 10 - 500 times further to get a cup of tea or some shopping. The knock on effect of reduced local parking creates more problems environmental or congestion and it bankrupts local small businesses. It's a constant drive towards big business. So your desire to reduce local parking is a big vote for big businesses to dominate and a vote to kill small independent businesses and we know Southwark hates small business too. Conclusion Reduce Local Parking if you want to increase pollution and have dead high streets full of bland chain stores. Using your logic Lordship Lane would be a dead zone with CPZs and soulless pound shops .. not very clever. It's about striking the right balance incentivising the use of electric vehicles and building suitable local parking facilities that keep drivers mileage down and also add cycling facilities like dry secure bike parking and safe routes for those who wish to cycle. I look at Peckham Rye and all I see is a missed opportunity as it's mostly empty because there's little parking Dulwich park has lots of parking and it's a busy vibrant used public space. I agree with DF re Blackheath it's a public disaster and has become a difficult place to visit. These councils are abusing their powers and the result is impoverishing the local people and killing small businesses insane! If you can see this from a different perspective I think you may have a change of opinion. -
GG roundabout is a pinch point it's like playing super mario only at 5-15mph in order to get your vehicle through you are required to jump through several hoops 1. Avoid bus lanes 2. Avoid bus stop 3. Avoid busses 4. Avoid smashing your wheels against curbs 5. Avoid roundabout 6. Avoid idiot drivers who straddle two lanes 7. Avoid indecisive drivers navigating roundabout 8. Avoid pedestrians who amble across roundabout 9. Avoid cyclists I'm sure I've missed a few other dangers trucks white van drivers Oh and the squeeze through and around the roundabout which is twice as big as it should be. Most drivers are overwhelmed by this and they frustrate other drivers and that causes danger. IMHO it's a badly designed roundabout junction Or It's intentionally designed to create confusion to slow traffic The result is a frustrating and dangerous junction for all who use it I'm surprised there aren't double digit problems there on a daily basis ... oh hold on there are ! Arguments near misses and contact on a frequent basis. GG roundabout is a hellish spot I avoid it when ever possible Conclusion BAD design all courtesy of Southwark Road Planners on a nice big earner .

I can't campaign to encourage parents > to let their children walk to school and not want > every junction to be safe. But 7.5m appears > overkill. Hi James Every parking space requires 4.8 metres If the proposed 35 East Dulwich Junctions were to get double yellow lines at 7.5Metres that would equate to a loss of up to 280 parking spaces. Add those to the hundreds of other lost parking spaces on many other streets which have become rat runs or T junctions cycle and bus routes and we are seeing fewer and fewer car parking spaces year on year. That can only result in CPZ's .. It's a slow squeeze towards less and less parking. I think we all know that if these road planners had their way we would have no car parking spaces it would be double yellow lines everywhere and even then they'd keep busy changing them from yellow to red and back again every few months. They just can't help themselves because they have a budget and in order to get the budget next year they must spend this years and keep their department busy and wanting even more staff, to fleece the local tax payer .. all for zero benefit it's nonsense ! -

Lounge it yea (because closing down the conversation is always a "solution") This thread reminds me of this comment "Liberals & socialists want to shutdown Trump they're acting like he is going to kill gays, make slavery legal again and take away women's rights... Like he's a Muslim or something.." It's a mad world .. offensive on so many levels ..

Looks and sounds like this is part of a grand plan to reduce available parking so drive the "need" to introduce CPZ's. Southwark appear to be designed to fleece residents in every possible way and keep "specialists" busy. I BET NICKY COSTIN Parking and network management business unit manager Regulatory services Is on a nice little earner together with all the others hanging on to the constant renewing of junctions parking markings and road layouts. It's a never ending life time of change which has resulted in congestion and increased danger whilst these "improvements" are carried out. THEY just can't leave things as they are for more than a few months CONSTANT change for Zero Gain !!!! -
Contact Southwark noise control. Don't waste your time and effort with the landlord Southwark will deal with that if needed.

A little disturbing is there a darker side to consider here? apologists .. At what point is it reasonable / acceptable to stop someone making excuses for bigotry? It does appear to me that the elephant in the barbershop is something very few want to discuss highlight or acknowledge 1. Do many on here think these barbers are accepting of our laws values and freedoms just jokers? 2. Or do they see them as bigots full of hatred of our liberal culture, a serious elitist problem? 3. Or a grey area somewhere between the two simply a lack of knowledge, uneducated bigotry? Our beliefs are at the core of who we are and how we see others .. elitist belief systems appear to be at the heart of these issues.. Such problems have little hope of being resolved if open discussion is stifled by misplaced political correctness a worrying problem that exposes a double standard .. A mad mix of ideology and culture makes for an interesting society that's for sure, sadly it doesn't make for a comfortable or safe world. Elitism is truly the enemy of all humanity, be it the liberal elitism shown in some posts here or the elitism at the barbershop.. no excuse for either imho .

Car wheels stolen for the 2nd time
pop9770 replied to iainhagger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Best way to avoid this is smash your wheels up on curbs they'll be safe then :( I did that unintentionally and they've never been stolen. I'll get them fixed when I sell my car meanwhile no worries on precision parking and wheel theft #genius
