this is a portmanteau word describing someone in the way? when I was clumsy or couldn't do something well or properly (as a child) so that she would give me something different to do which she believed was within my capability, my Granny used to tell me I was a 'hindrance.' I think we need bigger and better clues. Is this an obscure/obsolete/old fashioned word, is it regional/dialect, is there a prize?

Sometimes you gotta be brave little Noddy, take 2 kalms or some painkillers afore you venture into the chair -I have had dentist from Harley Steeet (when I was single and high earner ) to local, and now I have one out of town I am not going to share with any of you - she is European and I firmly believe that the training is more intense - femail dentists are empathetic and have smaller fingers, to reach molars and spaces fat fingers cannot This is not meant to be an easy ride but consider the alternatives. I visited a local dentist and vowed I would never return, attitude can often override skill? or reputation when one is vulnerable in pain, helpless, dependent and exhibiting a low pain threshold. What I would suggest to anyone is that they have a fairly youngish dentist and not an older one, for obvious reasons, loyalty does not equate to up to date methods/machinery/mechanics, and an electric toothbrush!, good oral health y'all.

in need of an electric heater temporarily
Elphinstone's Army replied to DizzyVB's topic in The Lounge
challenging or not, there is no one who will lend you an electric heater to put in your bathroom, especially if you have small children, it isn't even cold out, have strip washes like anyone else does when their trusty boiler fails, and toughen up it is a matter of days, these things are sent to test your mettle ......... -

Tiny Little Things That Cause You Irrational Rage

anyone replying to an appeal for info who subliminally suggests the OP is educationally sub normal, has no idea how to harness the power of the internet to research, book, query, question, check weather, wellies needs? what could possibly be the reason to drive 10hours at least with ferries, accommodation and stops on the way, and you must be a blithering idiot not to know, having been told, that it will be wild wet and windy, not to take waterproofs with a hood ...wellies, camera, map, guide book, sou'wester, 4x4, jumpers, fluffy pyjamas, Scottish pound notes, midge repellent, a positive attitude and basic knowledge of the scuttling of the German fleet at Scapa flow, not to mention Scara Brae which pre dates the pyramids, gosh, how stupid, ..we gonna just drive up there with flip flops and anoraks, no idea what to expect, gosh.. -
hello , can anyone offer any advice, tips, recommendations to a couple driving to Mainland Orkney in terms of accommodation, sites and sights not to miss and recommended clothing please. We have been warned that it will be wild wet and windy so prepared for variable weather. Thank you.

Transport in south london
Elphinstone's Army replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
we live in an internationally important city the centre of the civilised world for many of us. Why is it so difficult to get about. why are we required to effect a dog leg from ED through ghastly windy cold London Bridge in order to reach a destination achieved by 40 mins by road but 100 mins minimum by PT? I have waited outside TCR station for a bus along Oxford Street last month, 12 mins, this is not only a getting to work problem, stressful though that is, and I know I am lucky to be able to leave later. This is a general transport problem, so that by the weekend I am exhausted by the battle and do not believe that I am the only one. -
Would you recommend your GP practice?

pablogrande how right you are. surly, sullen, moody, intransigent hardly covers it. We have been at the Gardens for years. They don't seem to be modern or up to date and all the reception staff need sacking and start again. the DMC are shocking, how do they get away with it? good luck anyone trying to get satisfactory medical attention. -
Handelsbanken - the Swedish model
Elphinstone's Army replied to Elphinstone's Army's topic in The Lounge
hello thank you all for your shrewd and well considered comments. I will no longer tolerate the Gallic shrug offered by Lloyds in LL nor their contemptuous air, but I do not believe this Swedish bank is my panacea. thank you all for guiding me toward the ' if it sounds too good to be true it probablY is ' truism. sigh Off to the Nationwide we go. -
Does anyone know anything about this bank, nearest branch in Borough High Street, personal experience, anecdotal, friend of a friend? and happy to impart the information? Please/thank you.

what you need is beeswax, tins from France via Frenchclick at Mikwood Road, it is o'Cedar, applied to a clean dry surface with a paintbrush, left overnight, then old cloths on the feet and skate about to polish it off the next day, or any other floor beeswax if you know anyone returning from France.

Fat tree, Narrow pavement

Cards/Mail being folded through letterbox
Elphinstone's Army replied to Alec1's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Also, and although this happened years ago, we once had photographs sent to us from a young friend, fairly large ones, in a brown envelope with a piece of card in for stiffness, and a written request, 'Photographs, please do not bend.' The envelope was carefully folded into four, pressure appied, photographs and card fractured, shoved through the letterbox. Contempt and spite, hateful behaviour, so upsetting. Now if anything comes through damaged or tampered with I photograph it, and complain, and alert the sender. Remember in the olden days when we had a regular postman who one would tip at Christmas to thank him for his delivery in all weathers, and a genuine rapport. Bad apples ruin the barrel do they not. -

A few years ago I experienced this. A new debit card was missing from the envelope with covering letter still inside, and corner ripped off. And guess what, 500? drawn at the Coop atm at the top of the road, moved over to enable Christmas spending. The Nationwide reimbursed but not without a fight. -

Your justification reminds me of the song from Cabaret, 'It's Money makes the World go Round' perhaps it's on Youtube, play it and feel better.

Migraines - natural pain relief please
Elphinstone's Army replied to lavender27's topic in The Lounge
They need to be nipped in the bud - there is usually a warning, you will know, flashing lights or tunnel vision? Really strong coffee helped mine, mega caffeine dose, and occasionally a little brandy in conjunction, plenty of water, and block out the light. They can be so disabling, I do sympathise/empathise. Remember we have Health Matters on Lordship Lane !?
