On my first birth my delivery date was moved up a week as well according to scan data, and i was convinced all along that when I was induced I was just 41 weeks not 42. But no one would listen. I was very confident in my dates as well. This time I had myself down as due the 10th and they say the 9th so just about the same. Had two sweeps last time which did nothing. I have my next appt on due date and will see what midwife says about going to 42 weeks again. Hope things move along for you and that birth goes ok. Thanks for info. Keep us updated!

Supergolden - I know we have never met but I was actually thinking of you today and wondering if you had the baby as I am due a week tomorrow! Last time was induced so dont even know what going into labour feels like. What did midwife say to you regarding going over? Last time I went to 42 weeks before induction. I am with the Lanes this time (lived in Greenwich for last birth 2 years ago) and midwife told me that now I would be induced at 41+ 2. I really dont want to be induced again. Are you with the Lanes? Did they give you any options?

I have to say that Ocado is great. They have also gone above and beyond to accomodate me when I had to leave the house at the last minute. My son needed a trip to a and e and the driver kept in touch with me. He transferred my groceries to another driver when I wasn't going to be back by the end of his shift. That person then transferred the groceries to yet ANOTHER driver when I was stuck at Kings for almost 4 hours. They never complained or charged me extra. I have had one substitution in a year and I had edited the order at 11pm the night before and it was only to change the brand of frozen vegetables. I will say that I sometimes think I spend more but it is because I end up adding extras to my shop that I wouldnt see/remember at Sainsburys. This past week they had pampers products two for one and I got 2 six packs of wipes for the price of one. I also got a large Fairy laundry detergent two for one. In the end with other savings I saved 24 pounds on my shop. The website alerts you to sales/deals they have on and also match Tesco prices on many products. In addition, if you are willing to have a later evening delivery they are often free. I have used Sainsburys in the past for delivery and this is honestly night and day. I would not go back.

Baby allergic to our cats - what would you do?
nymom replied to Layla's Mum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have to disagree. I have a bad dust allergy and a bad cat allergy. While I have constant issues with dust, the cat allergy affects me totally differently and i found it very hard as a child to cope. Also even keeping the cats out of the bedroom has minimal impact from personal experience. The allergan is in the home and gets on clothing etc. I am sure this is a hard decision, but based on my experience I would not put a child through the daily struggle. Plus the child will get attached to the cats as he gets older and then not want to part with them. I do love pets and tried to cope with a dog allergy as well. It can make daily life miserable, and my allergy did not get better with exposure. I know it impacts everyone differently. But why take the chance. The asthma attacks I have had due to cat exposure have scared me and even as an adult I will now never travel anywhere without my puffer on the off chance I am exposed to a cat. edited to add that the cat i was exposed to was not in my house, but in grandparents house where I spent a significant amount of time each week. -

The Forest Hill sorting office is now open late one night per week. I saw a sign posted the last time I was there. I believe it was Wednesdays but you should double check. -

Baby allergic to our cats - what would you do?
nymom replied to Layla's Mum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have to add that I am allergic to cats and have asthma and it has gotten progressively worse as I have gotten older. I too had minor symptoms as a baby around cats but by age three had some full blown asthma attacks when near them. I still have this today. I am a pet lover but would have to advise to rehome the cats now and have your home professionally cleaned if possible. -
My parents live in NY and I wish we lived near them. They are also very young having met in high school and had me in their early 20's. My husband's family are in Wales and are much older as well so are unable to even come for a visit. I am so envious of those with family around. I am so close to my father's parents and want the same for my children. I am lucky enough to be able to go to NY 3 times a year, but wish we could just pop around for visits weekly (daily!) and have someone to help with the kids regularly. Those of you with your parents around - I say spend as much time with them as you can. I would.

39+1 w pregnant and sent to have ultrasound scan...
nymom replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am due in two weeks, and have had nitrates in my urine for the past two months or so. Midwife had sent the first positive test out and it came back as nothing so since then has just said it is normal for me. I have been prone to UTI's in the past and was worried but havent had any other signs of infection at all. Not sure if this helps you but it could possibly be nothing. I am not a medical professional though. -
I have a Miele washer and tumble dryer - two separate machines. I wanted a large capacity LG but ours were going into a standard space which the LG didnt fit into. I have never looked back. The tumble dryer works so well and the washing machine is great. Have had hotpoint/indesit in the past at previous properties and although cheaper they were rubbish compared to the Miele.

I have to be honest I have never encountered anything like this with my cleaner. She arrives ontime each week, has never canceled although I canceled on her twice last minute, works a full four hours and leaves my house immaculate. I am in and out of the house although sometimes have been away etc. She has her own keys and is extremely trustworthy. I would never pay someone for hours they are not working, and I also do not expect her to do extra hours either. When I was away and just my husband was here she finished early as he hadnt even used some of the rooms and she defrosted my entire freezer and did the interior windows because she had the time - the freezer was in terrible shape! She has asked for two weeks off well in advance to visit her son who is studying in another country. She is so pleasant with my two year old as well. She was recommended to me by my babysitter and I have never looked back. I say all this so you know there are good cleaners out there who take their job seriously, just like any profession.

I had a tomy which was terrible and it got to the point after only two months that it would only work while sitting on the charger - it just wouldnt take a charge. Got the BT one after that and it has been great.

Do you ask for seat on train/bus?
nymom replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am 7 months pregnant and the other day got on a bus where some people were taking up two seats. The ONLY person to offer me a seat was a very elderly woman, with a cane. I declined but could have really used the seat as I am suffering with SPD and standing really hurts. The rest of the bus watched me stand and no one else offered. -
icandy peach blossom double buggy- any good?
nymom replied to fmay's topic in The Family Room Discussion
That is good to know. However another issue with the p and t sport is that the seat area wasnt wide enough either - it is much narrower than the vibe. I dont remember what the difference was between the vibe and dash though. I want to try out the new explorer and see the width of that one. -
BUDS Preschool - Need Settling in Details
nymom replied to nymom's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks everyone. I called the mobile number and Maria called me back to tell me what time to bring my son. She also posted the same information to me as well. However I didnt receive anything on what to send with him. He is still in nappies as he just recently turned two so I assume I send a bag with his name on it with nappies and wipes? Also a change of clothes? So these things stay there or do I send a bag each day? Sorry for all the questions - I thought all of these details would arrive in the post but it was just a letter with the name of my son's key worker. -
My son is due to start at Buds next week. When I signed him up in early June I was told I would receive all of the settling in details over the summer, as they didnt have any to hand. I haven't received anything from them, and have emailed and left a message on their answerphone. I know they are closed over the school holidays but thought they may respond to queries etc. Also I thought maybe staff would be getting ready for next week. Does anyone have any info? What do I need to send with him? What happens on the first day? Etc. Thanks for any guidance. This is my first nursery experience and my son is just over 2.

icandy peach blossom double buggy- any good?
nymom replied to fmay's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I havent tried the Peach Blossom. I had resigned myself to the P and T Vibe as I have tried my son in about ten different doubles, including the P and T Sport and Dash. I will try it and see how he fits. P and T now have also come out with a new model, the Explorer. Havent seen it in shops although it seems like you can order it. It is cheaper than the Vibe and it had a second sunshade. Not sure what the other main differences are though. -
Thanks! I think my son would really like it. Am thinking of doing a Wed class as we already are involved with something else on Fridays.

Hi, my son is just over two and loves dancing and music. Are there many boys in the classes?

icandy peach blossom double buggy- any good?
nymom replied to fmay's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Alieh, My son is 35 pounds as well and was at that age too. Unless he is very short for that weight I dont think it would work. I am stuck with the Phil and Teds too. I am deciding which to get. The Sport is too narrow for him. I suspect it will have to be the Vibe as it has the adjustable headrest. -
icandy peach blossom double buggy- any good?
nymom replied to fmay's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Alieh, I just wanted to tell you that I tried my son in the Baby Jogger City Select. He was just two when I tried it while in NY, as wasnt even sure I could get it here. Unfortunately it was way too small for him. He is TOO tall and with a coat on in the fall he would be too wide as well. I was so disappointed as I wanted to love it as it has loads of configurations for a toddler and newborn. I do know someone who has it and they say it is very heavy to push with two children. I imagine many doubles are like that but wanted to add that as well. Maybe your child is smaller but thought I would post in case you are going very far out of your way to try it out. Edited to add sorry for going off topic, just thought I would share in case anyone was considering the City Select -
Extended Breast Feeding - advice on how to stop.....
nymom replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I just want to sympathize with you. My son is 2 years and 2 months, and I am expecting another baby in November. My son loves breastfeeding and I honestly do not know how to stop. I really thought when he turned 2 I would do it, but we were away visiting my family for 6 weeks and didnt want to try it there. We have been back for a month and the end of August deadline I set for myself is rapidly approaching. Like you Molly my son demands it, and now will say "just ten seconds"! He thinks my boobs are his and wants to hold them all the time as well! Like you also I have my son down to a feed in the morning, and my husband puts him to bed now so we could stop the evening feeds. During the day he will beg for it if we are home, and especially if he hurts himself. The boob is the only way to soothe him. I have no solution to offer you but wanted you to know you arent alone. If anyone has any other advice I would appreciate it! I feel so guilty trying to stop as he loves it so much, but I would love a small break before starting up again. -
Are Bugaboos as good as they look?
nymom replied to checkmeout's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I will add that I have a Bugaboo and really love it. Unfortunately it was broken twice by BA on long haul flights. Once the chassis broke and once the brake handle was broken off. I was still within the year warrantee and both times Bugaboo sent me a new chassis within two says and collected the old one. I have never had any other problems with the frame - I didnt purchase the travel bag and in hindsight doing so many trips maybe I should have. But as far as everyday use my son loves it. I do have a Maclaren for the car and he really doesnt enjoy the ride, wont sleep in it etc. In his Bugaboo he will sleep soundly and he is now 2. -
Thanks prdarling. I have been for a visit and really liked it - but just wanted to hear firsthand of any "hidden" negatives - if there even were any!. I am not too concerned with the admin part and the opening times and packed lunch arent too much of an issue either as I only wanted to send my son until 1 anyway as he is just 2, and he probably is used to the food I have been making him everyday anyway. I did think some toys looked worn but assumed that this is the case with most nurseries and my son wouldnt be phased either way. The staff I met were so friendly and the kids looked like they were having a lot of fun. I am really just looking for a place where my son will enjoy himself and make some friends in a caring environment. I am happy with my choice of Buds and your post has just reaffirmed that for me. Thanks again.
