Following your message I looked at the Southwark Photo and the attached was the photo Southwark used. Can someone tell me where the problem arises to close Champion Hill. Taken 2018 after the consultation The closure has nothing to do with safety but Southwark's wish to get motor cars off the road. As old residents can confirm Champion Hill has never been a problem.

When the ULEZ comes in, Inner London and the congestion is acceptable but many people will be left stranded when the crazy North and South Zones take effect in 2021. Many people will be left housebound for the reasons above and also they will not be able to replace perfectly good vehicles as they will not have the money. Many are OAP's. Like Penguin68 I am in that position also will find it very difficult to connect with public transport. Having to get rid of a car that for all intents and purpose is brand new. My 2000 miles a year is not here or there Still Khan has managed to rid the underground of underwear adverts and fast food adverts which in his eyes is a major victory. Perhaps those calling for these measures should remember they to will get old.

Simple answer. Make the road DKH/ Champion Hill no entry 0830 to 1000 and Denmark Hill/Champion Hill 1530 1700 hrs. Southwark will earn money with camera fining vehicles that do not obey Like the camera covering the bus lane on DKH. Parents happy, residents and car owners happy. This thought cost zero.

Following your email I looked at the "Sustrans" consultation for the "quietway" that met with over all disapproval, if my memory serves me and has not got off the ground, Southwark has used this document to implement the scheme. What would have been helpful would be to know was how each individual street voted to see where problems might be by looking at the yes or no response to closure. Was it one part that wanted it or from responses across the whole area. Overall they did not appear to be worried or they would have replied in greater numbers with a yes or no vote. People should look at the consultation document and make their own minds up as to whether this should have been subject to a more up to date consultation bearing in mind Champion Hill has greatly improved.

As people consider the implications of the CPZ consultation are people aware that at the same time Champion Hill is becoming a no go area for thru traffic. It is becoming cut off at the T junction from Denmark Hill to Champion Hill and left from Dog Kennel Hill/Champion Hill to the T junction. This will force traffic to use Grove Hill Road, Bromar Road, Pytchley Road. Dog Hennel Hill and Goose Green into Lordship Lane to reach Herne Hill or having to reverse back to Denmark Hill. Rather like the extra traffic that had to divert when Camberwell Grove was closed. With the focus on the CPZ, Southwark has slipped a Traffic Management Order to make it legal to do so. How many people were aware of this? If you know the area think about it and ask yourself why this is necessary and where it fits into Southwark's master plan for car owners. In my lifetime here of over 73 years the current setup has never been a problem. Whether you want or do not want a CPZ there are many side effects that have to be considered. More traffic thru side roads. How will that effect a CPZ. Just thought it should be brought to peoples attention.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think your area was the "toastrack". You asked for and got a full day CPZ. You have not experienced the 11-1 CPZ so you do not have that personnel experience to comment. We are across the railway line to you, We asked for by a majority for a full CPZ and got 11-1. All roads surrounding us are full days. ?6.80an hour if you are a highly paid worker in the city is peanuts. Our parking situation I believe will not change. You say a small number of bays, yesterday I watched them put park and pay signs on both sides of our road whilst the road that we butt onto is resident parking only no pay and display. It depends on who you Cllrs is on matters like this. I have no faith in our Cllr to fight our corner. Who do you think will get the parking.

That is all Southwark needs in their view to force their plans on the majority. Many people never even know these consultations are going on.

Oct is normally the 6 month review of Southwark staff's annual work plan for the current year. First starts in April then October. It is where Southwark staff have to show how they are working to gain their annual increment on the salary scale. So one should expect more schemes like the one above whether they are needed or not.

Bellenden Road gridlock - bridge replacement
rupert james replied to ed_pete's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This may be of interest, a reply received regarding the Bellenden Road Closure. People may know different. RE: Bellenden Road Bridge Replacement CR South East Today, 16:01 You Dear Mr Jones Southwark Council has forwarded a number of complaints to Network Rail over recent days and the following message is designed to respond to those concerns raised with regard to the essential bridge replacement that is taking place on Bellenden Road, which is to replace a life expired bridge to allow the continuation of the train service in this area and to carry out improvement works to the Camberwell Grove bridge to open the bridge to traffic under 3 tonnes. Firstly, we would like to apologise for any inconvenience and disruption that these improvement works may be causing you. Network Rail and Southwark Council have been working closely together to try and mitigate and minimise as much disruption as possible, but due to the nature of the works there will regrettably be some disruption. Network Rail and Southwark Council have to maintain their infrastructure for the safety of the public and to protect train passengers. However, due to limited railway closures to deliver both schemes as efficiently as possible we required the closure of all four railway lines for 72 hours. The May Spring bank holiday has given us the opportunity to carry out these essential works to both of the bridges. In the early stages of the project, an increase in traffic a certain times of the day is anticipated, however, this was compounded on Tuesday with a broken down vehicle on Peckham Road for a number of hours that reduced the road to a single lane. Today, Thursday 10th May, Southwark Council and Network Rail have reviewed the signage on the diversion and taken into consideration the feedback from yourselves and have taken the steps to improve the signage where necessary , including placing traffic marshals at Bellenden Road at the junction of Holly Grove and Blenheim Grove at the junction of Bellenden Road, improving the signage at the junction Lyndhurst Way and Peckham Road. During a walkabout this morning, traffic was flowing well in the area. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and your kind co-operation during this time. We will continue to monitor the situation. Kind regards Paula Williams Network Rail -
Council Enforcement Officers in Dulwich Park
rupert james replied to PaulDV's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Walking my dog twice a day in the park on weekdays come rain or shine I cannot remember seeing any of what you state happening. I am sure it must happen at the weekend when the park is jammed but weekdays is a different matter. Most owners are responsible and keep their dogs under control when off the lead. I for one would not dream of going into Dulwich Park with my dog at the weekend when it gets taken over. I remember seeing these wardens on their bikes full of self importance. The did seem very full of themselves. -
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. As Southwark want housing at any cost this has the potential of being passed. I wish you luck in opposing the planning application in its preset form. I know Wingfield Mews how do they expect the small access way in to the Mews to cope with the population of 23 housing units.? No wonder 2 of the current residents from the 4 have put their houses up for sale. After living in a civilised back water when this is done it would be like living on a very busy motor way. Hope this is advertised so people in the area actually get to hear of this and like many other things it is not left to be ignored. Good luck to those selling.

ARNOULD AVENUE, S.E.5 One of a group of roads on the Champion Hill Estate, named (in 1952) after friends or acquaintances of the Camberwell-born poet Robert Browning (1812-1889), although oddly not including one named after Browning himself. The group comprises: ARNOULD AVENUE, after Sir Joseph Arnould, a barrister, author and judge, born in Camberwell in 1815; DOMETT CLOSE, after Alfred Domett, later Prime Mini- ster of New Zealand; DOWSON CLOSE, after Chris Dowson; MONCLAR ROAD, after Count Am?d?e de Ripert-Monclar; WANLEY ROAD, after Nathaniel Wanley. I always thought the Champion Hill Estate was The Cleve Hall estate.

I am also a resident on Chadwick Road and voted for the CPZ but what gets up my nose about Jimlad48 he keeps banging on about how wonderful his CPZ is and how wonderful our CPZ will be but we voted 74% in favour for a full day not 2hrs. But then the toastrack got a full day and we got and will still get the traffic from his area. The toastrack had the benefit of having senior Cllrs that listen to what their residents wanted no matter how small the majority was, we have Cllr's that do not do anything. That is why we ended up with 2 hours whilst surrounded by full day CPZ's. I would be more impressed with him if he and his area asked the Council to turn their CPZ in to 2 hours like we are being forced to accept. It wont happen. -

A small majority vote wanted it. In our street 74% wanted all day to fit in with the surrounding CPZ's, we were told no. As someone else has mentioned perhaps we have the wrong Cllr's in the Lane ward who do not listen unlike yours who listen and act to what a small majority want. If it is wrong Southwark will not change anything as they always know best unlike residents who do know. People know this and want it right from the start. -

jimlad48 "Our area saw streets jammed from 6am to 9pm with cars day and night before the CPZ arrived. These cars turned up in the morning and left after work. Clearly commutter cars, we've not seen them since the CPZ began and they've not been replaced by new cars. We have more parking spaces than ever. There will be a 60% increase in parking spaces - most days we've got most of the roads in the CPZ as being 70-80% empty compared to day long 100% occupancy a few short months ago." Why is this? you have an all day CPZ. It makes a difference. People cannot park with out being a resident. Our street will have to take the overspill of no parking as we do now as we are in or will be in the middle of a all day CPZ area. Why did your area want an all day CPZ and not a 2 hour one? If people turn up after the 2 hours they then have almost a full day to just leave their cars there. The answer is fairly obvious. -
They say opposites attract perhaps you and Sue should investigate such a coupling and you would not bitch so much.

Which means the whole thing is a money raising exercise re CPZ's Make CPZ's all day. Does jimlad48 know this? No wonder he/they wanted and got all day CPZ. No doubt having a heavyweight Cllr / Cllr's would have helped!!! Complete joke. -

I thought these 2 hours were for residents only to make whoever have parked move their cars. How does this work then. If true all CPZ'S should be all day. -

Will Southwark have enough wardens to police the 2 hour CPZ'S? if not things will not change and you will have to still pay. All day CPZ'S are a much better idea. -
I have to agree with Spider69 that if all other roads in the area are all day CPZ's then Chadwick Road should also be all day. As a resident I do not want anything else. I want it to start at 0830 and end at 1830. Resident parking all day. 64% of residents voted for an all day CPZ why are Southwark not taking notice? As jimlad48 pointed out "Toastrack got all day because the offer was for either 2hr parking or all day, and more people voted for all day than 2 hour parking. No conspiracy there"! Why have they decided that Chadwick Road different. Lower Chadwick is all day what is different for upper Chadwick. What is the real reason?
