Autumn Babies 2017 (due Sep/Oct/Nov)
JRK replied to Moderator Caroline's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'd be up for an evening in the week or weekend afternoon. Be lovely to meet you all. Jess -
Hi there, I was just wondering if anyone has done The Bump and Baby club in East Dulwich before or is going to? I know there are a few and I am confused about what to do, The Group, NCT or Bump and baby club. It would be great to hear any experiences. Thanks so much,

Autumn Babies 2017 (due Sep/Oct/Nov)

I would very much like to join the Autumn babies group please. I'm due Oct 14th with my first. Thanks! Jess -
There used to be a brilliant Italian Deli/Cafe on Farringdon Road, talking about London far flung deli's used to get the best salami from there when I worked around the corner. Was further up from the post office on left. I do love lidl fennel salami but it's not in walking distance and I have to say I do love a nice deli counter with a selection of meats you can have sliced in front of you. Would be good if Cheese Block made more of a deli - they have a few salami's at the back. Everything is so bloomin' expensive though - we don't want a Franklin's deli, would be about a pound per slice!
-
I am also excited by Mons and although I like the cheese block produce, I have to agree owner and the girl who work there have been pretty unfriendly every time I've been in. We are indeed very blessed with the lovely shops on LL. I wish Franklins was a bit more affordable though - I often walk in and browse, only to walk out again thinking prices are ridiculous. What we really need though is a decent deli! I want a nice meat counter filled with a broad selection of salami's, hams etc. Yum Yum! Hopefully Mons includes this but I doubt it since his speciality is cheese!

Is there a petition or anything that we can start/sign to try and prevent this from happening? I can't understand how a closure of a sorting office can help with a large volume of parcels! Surely they can just change a few post codes to the Peckham one instead and take the pressure off Silvester road. It's such a beautiful building too and would be a crime to see it turned into flats.

I would love some bird action in my back garden but fear there are too many neighbouring cats who prowl around in wait. I put a feeder up in a safe from cats place but it doesn't get any action - is this because it's filled with sunflower seeds and birds think these are boring? Maybe a fat ball will work. I don't want to entice birds into my garden to get pounced on but would love to hear a twitter tweet tweet once and a while. I have seen 3 blue tits since we moved in last Feb (pretty shocking) and a friendly blackbird searching for worms on a more regular occasion.

Hello everyone! A little update for you all - I have found a modern calligraphy tutor who is willing to come and do a workshop in East Dulwich for as little as 5 people - It will be more expensive per person if it's only 5 (I have 7 interested so far) if I can get it up to 10 that will obviously reduce the cost but I am waiting to discuss with the manager of Picture House before I can confirm prices. I think it would be am initial 2-3 hour workshop (again i need to confirm this) and then if enough people love it and are interested we can do a follow up. A starter kit will be included in the cost of lesson to use and to take home. Please bear with me whilst I find out details and I'll come back on here to confrim dates and costs and we can see if we have enough committed people to pull this off :) At this stage I'd imagine first one would be in September. Thanks for everyone's interest so far! Jess x

This is great thanks for letting me know! I have 6 people up for it so far and haven't been asking for long so that bodes well . . . - I have found a willing tutor and am trying to sort out cost so will be sure to update you all when I have more info.
-
Also - it doesn't look likely due to lack of response on here - but if anyone would be interested in learning the art of calligraphy once a week - if I can find a keen tutor we might be able to hold a weekly evening class at East Dulwich picture house so let me know! Prob would need 6 or more people interested.
-
Thanks PeckhamNicola I'll have a look, youtube is great but I'd rather do it in person.

I really want to master the art of calligraphy and wondered if anyone has experience in this or knows of any good courses to learn it. Maybe if there are other locals wanting to learn we can find someone who will teach us. Wouldn't it be wonderful to write like this: http://i67.tinypic.com/zyga36.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/16as3o8.jpg http://i63.tinypic.com/2ivkvnl.jpg

If you receive a postal vote card can you still chose to vote on the day or do I have to do a postal vote? Thanks
-
Damn I am sad I missed this - I didn't know it was on. We went for walk around Nunhead Cemetery when were looking for houses (not in the cemetery obviously) and I found it a wonderful place. I'd love to learn more! Will have to wait til next year.
-
I keep finding them whenever I move stuff. I moved a blanket from off spare bed and 3 moths came out :( They also climbed out the washing basket. It must be the weather that has brought them back so bad this year. Can't wait to set my moth bombs off this weekend - will let you all know how it goes!
-
Thanks everyone for your input and advice. It's reassuring to know it's not just me who gets crazy by these horrible things. I never used to have a problem with moths but now they gross me out just because they are everywhere and those lilttle lavae wriggling around are enough to make me gag. I got an extendable duster which is helping in the smooshing of them. Thanks for the photo ref dulwichfox, I think it has to be webbing moths as they look just like that. I HATE THEM. I just ordered 6 x moth fumer things to help me with my quest to rid East Dulwich of moths. If they eat my nice fancy rug I bought I'll be livid. Or my alpaca coat. Or anything else for that matter.

I was hoping for some helpful advice on how to get rid of house moths for good? They are slowly driving us mad and I've been using this nasty lakeland spray but they keep appearing here and there. I have a feeling we might have brought them with us when we moved in vacuum bags with clothes in but can't be sure. We had terrible trouble with carpet eating moths in our last flat - but I think the carpets at new house are inedible! Does anyone know how to get shot of these pests for good? Many thanks!

Yamaha are great and my piano teacher says there is nothing better other than a real piano. I have a white p-105 and it cost about 400 but that was 3 years ago so you can prob get cheaper now or a newer model but I'm still really happy with it and the weight of the keys. It sounds even better since I moved into house with high ceilings!

Who would be the best contact to write to about bins? I've had a week away but have come back with bins on my mind still. I would love underground bins! One day. . .
-
Nigello, Jennys & Loz - its another custom made one unfortunately - though I am sure a good carpenter/builder would be able to construct something pretty similar based on photo. Here is a good bin blog I stumbled across: http://blog.lisacoxdesigns.co.uk/design-tips/front-garden-design-tips-storage/ intexasatthe moment - i guess you could just make it longer but might be a bit silly. Tomskip, I'm glad you hate the bins too! it might be a fairly minor thing in comparison to 'proper issues' but it makes home so much nicer and prettier and I for one like looking at pretty things! I'm def gonna pick up some of those paper bags - are they free or do you have to buy them?
-
Jennys, I definitely see your point, I'm not sure how plant roof will work when it comes to easily accesing the bins, though I think I could get used to pulling bins out if they looked so pretty. Having said that, I do also like this one and it looks quite robust plus vents would be good to stop the stench: http://i65.tinypic.com/30w2rr6.jpg Mancity68, I can see that the elements might make things a bit rickety, maybe you could grow creeper all over it so it looks 'rustic' and floral instead. I am not adverse to novelty bins though I want classy bins!
-
When I've got it done I'll post a pic on here and share info of price and builder friend's detail should you want one to match. Wouldn't it be great if we could make our bins something that we love looking at instead! (Maybe that is going a bit far but I'd be proud if my bins had a cover that snazzy). Def not a good idea googling #binporn I hate to think what came up! I have spent many an hour perusing bin covers on pinterest though. In reply to Rosetta, bins on pavements are more of an inconvenience but bins lined up the full width of terrace house disturb me more visually.

Hi there, I am quite interested but don't really understand so would love a bit more info :)

Thanks so much everyone for the advice. Bawdy-nan, I will try the euston square - farringdon-denmark hill route on the way home and when I have a bike I think I will cycle to Brixton or denmark Hill and ring the changes. Do you just lock up your bike outside brixton station? I won't be getting anything swish, so hopefully that will rpevent it being stolen! Loz, thanks for London Bridge route - i will be sure to try that at some point too!
-
Thanks Sanity Girl, This is what I did this morning after discovering bus wasn't running. I may have to do this route for forseable future, until I get a bike! I took my easy journey before for granted - was nice not having to change so much and always get a seat - Victoria gets so horribly busy!
