Dulwich Picture Gallery has recently become aware a scammer who has been operating in the local area mascaraing as a Gallery member of staff. On 8th August a resident on Turney Road was called on by a man claiming to work at the Gallery called ?Jack?. Jack asked her for money, ?60-70 for a taxi to Essex, claiming that his pregnant wife was about to give birth. The resident was told that the money would be paid back to her, that the gallery would ensure it, and that she would get a bottle of wine for her troubles. Fortunately the resident was wise enough to not give him any money and the incident was reported to the police. The man was white, medium build and height. Short brown hair and in his early 40s. Please be aware that this individual is not connected to Dulwich Picture Gallery. If you become aware of anything similar in the future please inform the police and Gallery on [email protected]

Thank you for your responses. We have identified a need for redundancies as part of the proposed reorganisation. The consultation process with our visitor services team began last week. No final decisions have been taken yet. The purpose of consultation is to seek the views of those affected. With regards to causal staff this is not about outsourcing or casualising our workforce. The proposals will eliminate current discrepancies between contracts across the team, including ?zero hour? contracts, and by employing more staff on regular contracts it will reduce the need for casual staff. Hello all, Following some discussion on here http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1361807,1382486#msg-1382486 regarding family visits to Dulwich Picture Gallery we have planned an open forum and we would like to invite you all to share your ideas with us here at the Gallery. The open forum will be held from 1.15pm to 2.15pm on Tuesday 9th September in the Gallery?s Linbury Room. So come and enjoy some refreshments and talk to us about your experiences as a visitor to the Gallery and how we might improve your experience. As a visitor to the open day we will offer you free entry to the Permanent Collection after the forum. You may also be interested in our family event prior to the forum, ?Mini-Masterpieces?, running from 10.30am to 11.30am. Children aged six to eighteen months are encouraged to take part in interactive art sessions, followed by a child-friendly gallery visit. Thank you all for your contributions. I work at the Dulwich Picture Gallery so it is very useful to read through and have the opportunity to respond as well as feed back to the Gallery. It is certainly our ethos to try and encourage visitors of any age at all times so we apologise if you do not feel this apparent on your visit. We currently offer a children?s trail as well as colouring pencils and paper free of charge to help children get the most out of their visit (please ask at the ticket desk and a Gallery Assistant will be glad to help you with this). However, we do have to balance this approach with our duty of care towards our works of art, a balance that we are striving to get right for all visitors. Rucksacks have caused problems in the past with visitors being unaware of brushing past paintings behind them. All Gallery Assistants are asked to be vigilant and politely ask all visitors to carry rucksacks by hand or use the free lockers provided. Gallery Assistants are members of staff and we try to ensure that they are equipped to approach all visitors as individuals with differing needs. In the case of Lyndsey&Murray carrying the rucksack was understandably difficult. Did the Assistant on hand offer the use of our free lockers in the entrance way as an alternative? We are constantly striving to improve the experience for our visitors but sometimes we may fall short of the mark. Please do continue to visit the Gallery and give us your feedback to help us improve our service. Be inspired by Bartolom? Esteban Murillo, the most popular Baroque 17th-century Spanish painter?s works. Over 30 of his paintings, many featuring adorable and beautifully painted animals are now on display at Dulwich Picture Gallery until 19 May 2013. The challenge is simple: create an artwork of your favourite pet or animal and send a digital copy to [email protected] until 1 May 2013.
