    Conley & Co

Having been impressed with the plans Conley & Co drew up for our bedroom and bathroom refurbishment we decided to employ them in February 2019. We were assured that the job would take 7 weeks so with all the money (a hefty five figure sum) for materials paid upfront (bar ?3k) we went ahead in good faith. Little did we realise this would signal the start of a 7 month (yes SEVEN MONTH) saga that dominated our lives. Early on in the job one of our ceilings collapsed on account of rotten beams. This could have had a catastrophic outcome but fortunately no-one was sleeping in the room below at the time. This heralded the start of a catalogue of many unfortunate incidents. Communication deteriorated as the work progressed and we were forced to project manage the job ourselves as the firm reacted very badly when we flagged up legitimate concerns. There were days on end when the builders were on site awaiting materials that we naively assumed had been ordered at the start of the job. We assumed that once we had paid for materials at the start of the job the materials would be ordered and delivered. Ultimately the firm walked away leaving a snagging list untouched, no guarantees for the job and no closure of the project. We refused to pay the final balance as this was the only recourse we had against the failings of this project. The end result? The pleasures of a fine looking space in which to sleep and wash have been massively outweighed by the stress of the job, and lack of accountability by this company. We are 2 aggrieved clients who are trying to warn people before they appoint this firm.
  2. We're on Upland Road too, with car on the driveway and the road. We installed a NEST camera a year ago on account of our horrific neighbours. It so far has proved an invaluable deterrent. So sorry to hear about your theft.
  3. We passed the site at 1550 and there were 2 Thames Water Vans with men inside - one looked like he was fast asleep at the wheel. British Engineering at its best.
  4. Thanks for all your replies. I was simply hoping that someone might know the owners. I wonder if it's their holiday vehicle but given how long it's been there it seems unlikely. Amazed that Rodwell Rd residents don't seem to mind it.
  5. When trying to enter Rodwell Road from Crystal Palace Road by car the job is made considerably harder by the fact that a CamperVan (reg J69 BRA) is parked virtually at the mouth of Rodwell Road. It's been here for months, is really badly parked and basically a nuisance. Please move it. Thanks.
  6. I'm not clear what 'Amno' means.
  7. If anyone knows the owner of the huge van that has been left for the last 3 weeks on the corner of Upland Road and Dunstans Road, then PLEASE get them to move it. It's parked in such a way that it is almost impossible to pull out of Upland Road as the van is obscuring oncoming traffic on Dunstans Road. Thanks for reading this.

  9. I wonder if anyone has managed to reach Cllr Barber of late? I have an ongoing issue which he helped me with at the start of summer but now I can't get hold of him. Thoughts?
  10. Just to let neighbours at the Goodrich School end of Upland Road, we had an attempted yet audacious break-in last night. Our video camera was dismantled which is a good 14 feet high and mounted over the front door. Our porch light sensor was dismantled and three fence panels were removed. Police notified and came out within the hour. Be aware folks.
  11. We're getting a trickle but nothing substantial....we're near Goodrich School on Upland Road
  12. My house has just been painted by Brian and his team. It hadn't been touched for at least 7 years. It now looks amazing and I'm delighted with the job they did. Right from the start they were courteous, punctual and tidy. They took care to move plant boxes and Bay Trees that would have been damaged by the painting. This was not part of their brief but it was no trouble for them to do so. Due to my kitchen extension some of the rear windows were not easy to access but they managed to do so very efficiently. I would not hesitate to recommend them as they are polite, professional and trustworthy. Thanks Guys!!
  13. Just returned from Sweaty Betty in Clapham. The word is they're opening up very near to Question Air this year.
  14. Does anyone know if there's a foodbank in East Dulwich? Reading a huge article about them at the weekend and the phenomenal work they do (not just providing food but advice on a range of housing and finance issues) has pricked at my conscience. I think there is one at the massive Sainsbury's at the retail park but I wonder if there's one nearer ED?
  15. Does anyone know who's camper van that is that's been parked outside Beauty Plus on Forest Hill Road for at least the last 4 months? Wouldn't really matter if it was in a residential road but it's taking up parking space for shoppers and also people who need to use the surgery opposite. It's got lots of animal stencils on the back, can't miss it really.
