I've got a marathon in 11 days and after having some tendonitis in my ankle last week, I've revised my running plan and intend on walking some of the marathon. I was originally planning on running about 5hours 30minutes, but now am keen not to injure myself so I want to include some walking. Some experts recommend running for a mile, walking for a minute (repeated 26 times)....while others recommend running for longer and walking for longer. Does anyone have any advice they could offer me? I am not a runner, and am doing the marathon for charity. My only goal is to complete the race without hurting myself! p.s. Details of my fundraising can be found at www.runforschools.co.uk!

Thanks Pebbles, I've already got the ?5 on the site. If you PM or email me a contact phone number for me to write on your raffle tickets, I can then ring you when you win! -

p.s. I'm not sure if my original post is clear....there are in fact three winners in the raffle. First prize is the mini pool table, second prize is the teddy and third prize is the haircut and mini manicure. -

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all your generosity! That's totally brilliant. You can send ?5 directly to my charity website at VirginMoneyGiving where you can use paypal, debit or credit card. That's probably the easiest and fastest. I can then put 6 tickets into the raffle with your names on them. -
Hi everyone! I'm a primary school teacher trying to raise enough money to build a school in rural Nepal. (For the bargain price of ?7,000) To help me achieve my goal, I'm selling raffle tickets for ?1 to win a mini pool table (3feet by 2feet), Lovely dog/teddy bear and a mini manicure and child's haircut. I had a market stall on Northcross Rd on Saturday and only sold 8 tickets. I really want to make more for my charity and also don't want to give away such cool prizes for ?8. Does anyone have any ideas how I could sell these raffle tickets. Closing date is 27th March and I'm running a marathon in two weeks, so don't have that much free time on the weekends unfortunately.... I'm totally open to suggestions. Can anyone help?

Yes...it has taken awhile. I've been running into school in the mornings, teaching during the day and then fundraising in the evening and weekends! I'm at Hildreth St Market in Balham today, launching the auction site and selling raffle tickets. I'll be in Northcross Rd next weekend. Thanks for your support. :) -

Hi everyone. I've just completed my first half marathon on Sunday. So far so good. Less than 4 weeks before the full marathon.....eeek! I have set up a Charity Auction Website called "Run For Schools". No one has made any bids yet. Please have a look and let me know if you'd like to be the first person to bid for one of my wonderful prizes! www.runforschools.co.uk -
I'd vote YES to a local farmers market!

I'm running a half marathon this weekend and a full marathon four weeks after that. I met with my nutritionist about what I should and shouldn't be eating with regards to a marathon and I won't be "Carb loading"... I feel confident in my decision not to follow the majority of runners in this regard, after being inspired by two books - "Slow Burn" by Stu Mittleman and "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall. Having never run more than 10K before, I'll have to keep you posted. But so far my training has reached 15.7 miles and I haven't had any problems with energy. p.s. I do run REALLY slow....but I enjoy it! p.p.s. For more details, see www.virginmoneygiving.com/tarynhauritz I have a blog, twitter and facebook (all for charity)

Hi everyone! :)) My name is Taryn Hauritz and I am a primary school teacher who lives in East Dulwich. In the next five weeks I will be running a marathon and a half marathon for a charity which is very close to my heart - The CAIRN Trust. (I am NOT a runner!) The CAIRN Trust (Child Aid In Rural Nepal) is a children's charity aimed at helping children in Nepal gain access to an education. Nepal is the poorest country in South Asia, with 8.37 million people living on less than US $1 a day. 56% of the population are illiterate and many children have to walk up to four hours each way in order to attend primary school. Education is a proven way out of poverty and as the Nepalese Government does not have the resources to provide enough schools in rural areas, The CAIRN Trust has started to alleviate this problem. To date, The CAIRN Trust have built nine schools in rural villages in Nepal, giving over 1,300 of the poorest children the opportunity of an education. My ambitious plan is to raise enough money for The CAIRN Trust to BUILD A SCHOOL in rural Nepal. This will take ?7,000. I intend on running until I reach my target. Think Forrest Gump! On the 1st April, I will be privileged enough to be able to go to Nepal with The CAIRN Trust to see exactly how the fundraising has impacted on the children and communities in rural Nepal. (Entirely self-funded) What an opportunity! I have already received some very generous donations from businesses in the local area and I am now looking for futher support. HOW CAN YOU HELP? If you are able to offer a service or product that I would be able to auction, it would really help my cause. I am also planning a big auction evening in March and would value any support I can get. I?d be happy to come and talk to you about the charity anytime that is convenient, so please get in touch. I?d also be thrilled to receive personal donations! You can track my progress or make a donation at: www.virginmoneygiving.com/TarynHauritz I will be approaching the papers and holding market stalls in the near future, so come and say hello. Raffle tickets are only ?1. Thanks a lot for taking the time to read about this amazing charity!
