upsetting incident on the rye today
snowboarder replied to Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
oh - scary - I hate it when some horrid random incident like that upsets what was a nice day - especially when so lovely and sunny. Hope you all ok...x -
I did hope that it was a phase - indeed there were signs of improvement - however it's proving to not to be - really hope it is for you dingading- but OH that independent article - 15 MONTHS??? No, please (weakly)... We already pretty much do all it suggests. Sigh. Edited to say SORRY will really try to stop moaning about sleep...

Oh dear...see here http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,318428,318428#msg-318428 and here: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,340234,340303#msg-340303 Mine did the same. Lulled us into a false sense of security! Sadly he's now 5.5 months and still bad - I have all the books (although too tired to read/act on!), we have a bedtime bath feed sleep routine...it seems to me it's just luck whether they sleep or not after the obvious. I was in despair about it but actually I'm now finding the 3/4 wakes (or every half hour as was one night last week!) easier to deal with mostly because I'm just accepting that it's 'normal' and he's not doing it to irritate me... I do like the no cry sleep solution and if you and your partner have the energy think there is useful advice there. Sorry no real help. Good luck and I'll be thinking of you as I sit and feed baby snowboarder at 3am! x

Glider Chairs for Feeding - would you recommend?
snowboarder replied to MrsC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ah redjam...I think worth the money...if you have it....I too have bought a whole load of stuff over the last 6 or so months (when I come to have a clear out I will probably be able to kit out about 3 nurseries!), but the chair really is one of the more sensible and value for money items. Yep I'll get rid of it when done...but I reckon it will be in use for as long as I bf during the day... -

Glider Chairs for Feeding - would you recommend?
snowboarder replied to MrsC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hello - I bought a glider chair - hauck (?) from kiddicare - fairly reasonable (?150?) and am still using it 5 months after baby was born - I have it downstairs though for daytime feeding. Night feeds originally done in bed, now in cheapy ikea armchair in baby's room - surprisingly comfortable.... So - would totally recommend the glider - especially if you end up having a C section as I found it almost impossible to get up off our lovely comfy sofa! -
Hi - we are doing aquatots 1 with our 5 month old baby - and it's basically bobbing around in the water with a few songs! Your little one sounds a bit more advanced...

Teething questions please...
snowboarder replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you...it IS getting better..slowly! Think def teething pain as he's been biting my hand today. x -
No, no, this isn't fair!! I haven't been to the pub in 5 months!
-
Hello - yep I never used them either...! x
-
Yep - mr snowboarder would be allowed do that but not to go out for a pint in the evening (actually what am I saying he's not back from work in the evenings!).... ;-)
-
Hmm yes - as discussed elsewhere - leaving a baby to cry may well have results...but...well...not for us I don't think! My baby practically has a seizure if you leave him in his cot! I like the no cry sleep solution but just don't have the energy right now to start changing things like breaking the feed to sleep routine and working on getting baby to settle self. Crystal7 it sounds like we have similar issues!

Teething questions please...
snowboarder replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Oh no please don't let it be an ear infection - cannot bear a trip to the doctors for the inevitable brush off! Can I just ask - when does this start to be fun? For me and/or for baby?!? -
My nightmare Birth!!
snowboarder replied to Dulwich Born And Bred's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Oh my lord Heidi that all sounds totally traumatic....But many many congratulations and hope you both recover quickly. He looks lovely! x -
Hello - yes I have this too - my baby is a bit younger and not on solids yet, but awake every 3 hrs ish and I feed him - so I can only reply in sympathy! I have tried other methods but I do admit a bit half heartedly as am just too tired! Naps are 30 mins too - I have all the books...it's just too hard! Sorry no help. The current annoyance is it's taking me 45 mins at least to get him back to sleep too! x

Oh yes and ear pulling/holding and grumpiness... -
SO I realise it's conceivable that 5 month old baby snowboarder is starting to feel the effects of teething...Current symptoms seem to be a lot of dribble and biting of lower lip. He also is feeding really badly and crying - is this to be expected? He feeds for about 5-10 mins only during the day every 3 hrs or so. Seems to top up over night (lovely - sigh) when he seems ok... So - just really wanted to know if this all sounds normal? The feeding thing is annoying me as I worry he's not getting enough...but really if you saw him you wouldn't be worried about his weight! Day time naps are more rubbish than usual too. Thankyou all... (PS have bought the what mothers do book and I love it...)

The base makes getting the car seat in and out of the car SO easy - so if it's something you think you'll do a lot I'd get it. Your car has to have isofix fittings I think. You literally just click the car seat in...easy peasy!

Book, any thoughts?: Why Love Matters, by Sue Gerhardt
snowboarder replied to hanstands's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yep I'm starting to think this with my baby. There's lots of lovely giggling. Especially when out (flirting!). There's also a lot of RAGE. Hoping for general improvement as time goes on! I think just accepting that some things are personality related rather than there actually being anything wrong actually starts to make things easier. I'm only just getting to this stage! -
Does anyone have any recommendations for baby boys clothing that is cut more generously to accommodate big nappies? Baby snowboarder is quite chubby anyway, never mind the nappy, and his new next size up trousers are too tight (and way too long)! I know about the cut 4 cloth range but they are SO expensive....any ideas? cheers. x

Book, any thoughts?: Why Love Matters, by Sue Gerhardt
snowboarder replied to hanstands's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Moving on from sleep (although still very bad here).. I have this book on order..along with the 'no cry sleep solution'...(currently we have the no sleep cry solution going on) BUT - question - I hate letting baby snowboarder cry in his cot - he gets so upset and it's clearly not going to do any good - so I rescue him (frowns from my mother - rod for back etc.) - but he cries in the pram, in the car seat (long and hard) and in these situations I CAN'T pick him up...so does this affect cortisol/stress levels too? Suppose so.... Oh what to do?! Though he was chilling out some but not this week! I'll read the book when I get it and maybe can answer my own question! -
Wanted: High Chair recommendation for 6 month old
snowboarder replied to Crokes's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We've been looking at high chairs too...We have a antilop but it's irritating me as it doesn't tuck under our table. Went to mothercare but they were all HORRID and massive and plastic-y. And baby s looked terrible in the trip trapp - all on a lean! I've been looking at these on kiddicare website and can't decide....and am wary as have made SO many stupid expensive purchases in the last 5 months! http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_934_10751_-1_14633_74261_10001_14633#description_tab http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_934_10751_-1__39893_10001_ anyone got either of them? style (and expense) over substance? thanks... -
I just bought this book on amazon - have just skimmed it so far (when time to read?) but it's certainly making me think again about starting baby snowboarder on some pear puree at 5 months....so maybe he's ok until 6 months? And maybe forget the puree?

Ideas for days out with baby?
snowboarder replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm kind of looking forward to the legoland days!! Sorry I know I sound a bit pathetic...but we're only just getting over (and not totally by any stretch) scary loud pram rage/car seat rage...so I've been a little wary of travelling far to date...
