  1. Reusable nappies and wipes really do save you money in the long term...the nappy lady needs to come forth with the stats though! They are an outlay to begin with but there is a thriving second hand market - on here and other facebook and yahoo forums.
  2. 9pm and 2.8yr old refusing sleep here. He did nap though and we let him sleep too long...now we pay!
  3. Merry Christmas everyone!! We have a special Christmas present here - eldest broke out in spots yesterday so chicken pox I think!! Argh - doesn't seem too bad though. Have a lovely day all. Xx
  4. I was sad to have to sell the pram I had for biggest sb to fund the double buggy we now need - It was lovely having him lying in it and then sitting and facing me - we had good chats and it was nice and snug. Smallest has been shortchanged by never parent facing and being in the p&t cocoon. Other than that, worryingly, pretty much everything else is still in the loft...hmm...
  5. But that's another complication - how you 'do' presents! In our house father Christmas leaves you a stocking of fairly small presents, and then your 'main' presents (3 each this year) are under the tree and are from mummy and daddy. But I know in some families father Christmas is the only bestower of gifts... Saying that I have yet to do a final tally of the unopened amazon parcels, think might have gone overboard on duplo..
  6. I think we might have a 'proper' attempt when mr snowboarder is off the week after christmas. I think as he had done so well this morning I would have been tempted to carry on and go out in pants but husband didn't fancy the soft play/wee combo...
  7. Can we agree that chocolate orange is a meal? I don't really feel that christmas day has begun unless I have eaten at least one...:-) Otherwise we just have the usual - but I do like nice comfort food on christmas eve.
  8. We are using the gradual (lazy?) approach with 2.8 yr old boy. We have a potty in the bathroom and have been encouraging him to use it before his bath and now he does so every night. Now in the mornings he has started using the potty when he gets up and I don't put a nappy on him unless he has an accident or we go out. Success this morning - 2.5 hrs, 3 wees, no accidents. He's gone off to soft play in a pull up though. Dunno whether this is a good approach or whether cold turkey is better...agh!
  9. ..No staff according to husband and small snowboarder. Hope they turn up soon! The boys are off to Beckenham in search of fun!
  10. I remember as I was pregnant and it really made me realise that just because you have breastfed easily once the next baby can be entirely different. Well done for getting through it all! It is amazing how much support, virtual and real, is out there now. My mum was only in her early twenties when she had me, had just moved to the outskirts of a small town 200 miles away from her family and didn't even have a phone. Apparently the weekly baby clinic visit was literally the thing she looked forward to all week. I would absolutely have gone mad...we are lucky!
  11. How exciting! Congratulations and well done!
  12. Ha ha Ruth YES! Not sure the boys would look great in it though...
  13. No - baby lying side to side rather than head down or breech...Not good - they really can't get out this way!
  14. I thought the main difference was that the triumph uses a multi position strap style recline - like the phil and teds, but the quest has 3 set seat positions. The quest has a slightly better seat and extends a bit for short leg comfort. I have heard people prefer the quest (i have it - it's fine for bus and car!), I've not tried the triumph...
  15. There's a website called spinning babies I think - sorry on phone so can't do links. Various improbable positions to try. My second flipped about a lot too - breech and transverse - their siblings have left them room to play! Luckilyhe settled head down at 36 wk scan - I think a rather violent vomiting bug a couple of days earlier turned him!
  16. Recall due to sleep issues... :-)
  17. So while everyone else is winding down to christmas and the school aged kids are loving the relaxing holidays, sadly the pre-schoolers still have energy and need entertaining and everything is closed down for christmas..argh.. I wondered whether anyone knew what is on or still running next week? I can start with one thing I have found this - a show by theatrebugs on tuesday afternoon at Goose Green. No idea what it will be like but I've signed up to go... Nothing on at the Horniman (no Busy Bees). I think Ruby Rhymes is on on Monday with Christmas Party afterwards. Anything else? Hoping Crystal Palace 1 oclock club open and maybe Toddler World...
  18. In extreme circumstances I understand putting a sleeping bag on backwards (if it is a front zip one) can make removal more tricky. (Know that this would a - be v difficult to physically do with my son and b - make him v cross). Nightmare....
  19. Hmm my 2 yr old can get out of his cot with a sleeping bag on (and can take sleeping bag off by self too) so not much hindrance... His reaction to being 'disciplined' sounds like my little boy too (basically doesn't seem to care!). I have no solutions as yet am afraid. Things I might try - stair gate on bedroom door/special book to read in bed and torch to read with/bribery/lying down with him in the dark/sedative (JOKE).... Does he nap? Mine has woken up recently in the night too after about 18m of good sleep - scared of monsters etc. Too tedious...
  20. It's not so much postpone the car seat upgrade as maintain rear facing for as long as possible, if I understand right. You can get rear facing next stage up car seats - there is a website that tells all... OUr 2 yr old is in a regular forward facing stage 1 seat (was a complete horror in the car until he fwd faced) but I am in a quandry about the baby, who is coming up to growing out of the maxi cosi too and doesn't seem to mind rear facing.
  21. Gina my little boy (3 in april) goes to Buds - a preschool in the cricket club opposite the harvester. WOrth a look as so close to you? We really like it and on some days (mon/fri esp I think) it is much quieter than others. I don't know how they work out the 15hrs thing though - but morning sessions are 9-1 and they take a packed lunch. We currently do 2 mornigs a week - with the odd extra morning occasionally. He loves it and would like to go more - just can't really afford it until the grant kicks in.
  22. I do like Thai corner cafe and we regularly get take away from there but it's not v special. Isn't there a chinese place in Camberwell that everyone raves about? How lovely though - have a nice time :-)
  23. Yep the term AFTER they are three. We have exactly the situation Lochie describes with a 6 April birthday. Tsk.
  24. We gave up with the cocoon at about 14 weeks and padded the newborn area with a lambskin rug (note rug not seat liner - so it came up the sides/back etc. Didn't strap in as if you look the straps are too low and their little legs would be squashed!! If you have a cosy snowsuit might work? Quite hard getting them in and out - you kind of have to post them! We put baby in the seat at about 18 weeks I think. Sleep was not good after that!
  25. Thought of some more that were on our list for baby 2 earlier in the year (having an insomnia moment!): Nathaniel, Cyrus/sirus, lawrie, Kester, Cassius We chose one of these! Can't believe baby is 7 wks old!! Do you just call him baby atm?!?
