  1. And a slur on Franklin's if it wasn't the case.
  2. Hospitalisations and deaths are very low, according to the ONS, despite the increase in cases. Newer variants might be more infectious than previous ones, but they appear to be milder. https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/articles/coronaviruscovid19/latestinsights#overview
  3. I wouldn't hold your breath about that. I have a very knowledgeable and otherwise sensible friend who five years swore that we'd have more than 50% self-driving cars on the road by the end of 2021. I'm looking forward to collecting my winnings off him... Seriously, techno-fantasies usually fall apart as soon as they come face to face with the messy realities of a huge, complex world. We were promised jetpacks! In the meantime, Rye Lane should open up for buses again. It's bonkers that a major rail hub like Peckham Rye station doesn't have bus stops outside.

Nothing to see here... move along. Disappointing for both tribes ? the 'thank goodness there's some real British news on for a change' bunch and the 'oh my goodness, look at these disgusting and dangerous people' lot.
  5. Southwark News today on Crouch's involvement: There will no doubt be much intrigue around Crouch. Dulwich Hamlet communications and media director Tom Cullen told the News: ?We had him as a player, but it?s a coup that we?ve managed to get him now considering how busy he is. We just can?t wait to see what he offers. ?A natural fit for him is obviously the football side of things, which is beneficial for both Ryan and Gavin to be able to have someone on the board who is a football person. Our football staff need support in that area and Peter can give that. A great amount of knowledge and support. ?We?re absolutely thrilled.? Another club source told the News: ?He will be involved in every aspect of the running of DHFC, from advising transfer policy, helping out with the women?s team and even pouring pints at the bar! He will be heavily involved with both DHFC and DHFCW.? https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/sport/45521-2/
  6. It hasn't been laid out yet, but I suspect it involves an injection of cash, though of course DHFC are keen not to go back down the road of having a moneybags owner but are committed to an ownership model which gives a pivotal role to fans. I imagine Peter will be an excellent ambassador for the club as well as having very useful contacts within the game. Very pleased to see him on board ? I'm a DHFC shareholder and season ticket holder, but by upbringing a Villa fan and enjoyed his time at Villa Park where I felt he hadn't been given a fair chance... he later went on to play for England, of course. Always comes across as an honest and intelligent critic of the game via his excellent 5 Live podcast: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06kyljg/episodes/downloads
  7. Excellent news for the club in difficult times: "Dulwich Hamlet have announced that former England international Peter Crouch has joined their board as a director. Crouch, 40, who played on loan at the Hamlet from Tottenham in 2000, ended his playing career with Burnley in 2019 after spells at a number of clubs including Southampton, Liverpool and Stoke. He has since forged a successful career in the media." https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/sport/45513-2/
  8. But not a national voting agreement, constituency by constituency. The Lib Dems in the past picked up several seats in general elections due to local tactical voting, but that's quite different.
  9. By-elections are easy for people to vote tactically. In general elections, the national noise makes it almost impossible for large numbers of people to see how their local vote can affect the 'bigger picture'. The chances of an anti-Tory Lab/Lib Dem/Green voting agreement are tiny, alas.
  10. Yeah, surprised there's been no mention on the "ED Nature Watch" thread...
  11. Love it! https://shop.openhouselondon.org.uk/products/copy-of-battersea-power-station-model
  12. At the risk of reigniting SE22's street-based class war, I would hope that the council look at the make-up of each road to decide where best to place the hangars. Roads with predominantly single-occupancy need hangars less than those with flats, where inside space is at a premium. The road I used to live in was nearly all single-occupancy with front gardens and yet it received one of the first hangars. Daft and inequitable.
  13. Agreed. Not sure why they can't make all of that road double yellow with maybe two or three disabled parking bays.
  14. ... or for parties that do well outside England. For years, English consituencies have been (on average) larger in terms of population than those elsewhere. This was deliberate in order to ensure at least some significant representation for Scotland, Wales and NI in parliament. But it really only just highlights the absurdities of FPTP.
  15. Yes, the approximate equalising of populations between all consituencies (barring IOW and Anglesey) has taken precedence. Which is an improvement, but only in the context of our absurd FPTP system in which it will still can be the case that it takes the DUP 29,200 votes per seat in the Commons; the SNP 27,900 votes per seat in the Commons; and the Green Party 524,000 votes per seat in the Commons.
  16. Looks like the Boundary Commission want to put East Dulwich into a new "Dulwich and Sydenham" parliamentary constituency: https://www.bcereviews.org.uk
  17. malumbu, you still need to explain why Peckham Rye station shouldn't have bus stops outside. When I lived at the bottom end of Barry Road and commuted into Farringdon, I either walked to and from the station or, if running late or it was p*ssing down, I'd jump on the 12 or the 63. Local commuters who lived further away than that (eg top of of Barry Road) would get the bus every day. Peckham Rye is a busy SE London hub, serving London Bridge, Blackfriars and beyond, Victoria, Croydon, Bromley, Sevenoaks etc etc. There's no equivalent busy station that does not have buses outside. It's called integrated public transport which, for a busy city, is probably more important than improving cycling and walking.

And I don't buy this argument that > it is all about those less mobile. malumbu, this is at least the second time that you've (deliberately?) conflated the wish to bring back buses to Rye Lane with bringing back all traffic. Please don't do it again. Anyone advocating increased cycling/walking at the expense of the private motorist will not help their case by being "anti bus".
  19. malumbu Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So apart from concerns for some bus users due to > age, carrying heavy shopping, young families and > the like and we in agreement that making Rye Lane > vehicle free is a good thing? No, we need the buses back. A transport hub as locally important as Peckham Rye station needs to be served by buses.

My annual update of the day I first hear or see them in our part of the world suggests not :) 2011 ? May 9 2012 ? May 1 2013 ? May 17 2014 ? May 8 2015 ? May 9 2016 ? May 4 2017 ? May 6 2018 ? May 7 2019 ? May 8 2020 ? May 6 2021 - May 9
  21. There are two follow-ups for the census. The first is chasing up addresses for which there have been no returns. The second is for a more in-depth questionnaire (asking questions about work, travel, schooling etc) that a small proportion of households are chosen for after the main census, representing as closely as possible a fair demographic spread. So it's probably the latter.
  22. Bob, and what about you? As I understand it, Mrs Buzzard's up by 6:00 and sneaks out for some bracing 'exercise' with her personal trainer on Peckham Rye before returning home by 7:00 to wake you with your tea.
  23. Talking of expressions ? "You've got this." No, I haven't, but I do have a rising rage at your stupid boosterish expression...
  24. Bill Oddie went to my school (KES Birmingham) and was allegedly expelled on his very last day for diverting all the traffic from the main road down the school drive and round in front of the main door...
  25. RichH Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Shouldn't your back garden micro-habitat also > include a predatory factor? Yes, but your 'rewilding' of the back garden would have to include not feeding the cat if you were going 'back to nature'. And ensuring your neighbours didn't feed it either...
