Some light entertainment for your morning scan of the internet: Last night about 10pm my next door neighbor (who lives in the upstairs section of the house and is rarely in) came home and immediately started screaming at the top of her voice something along the lines of: "I ward you of evil spirit leave this place" (x3) [brief pause] "Holy Spirit" (x3 sung in fast triplets) [brief pause] "Holy Spirit" (x3 sung in fast triplets) and then start all over again. This was while she was jumping up and down and running all over the flat until 2am. Then the TV came on full blast and was still on when I left for work this morning. I was so concerned about these evil spirits I stayed awake most of the night to make sure they didn't get me too and thankfully made it unscathed...I think the mantra worked so I'll go thank her if I bump into her. In full honesty it was maddening cos her living room is right next to our bedroom so we had front row/bed seats to the whole performance; and always do when she pulls wack stuff like this. I'm going to be on the coffee hard today!

This sort of negative policing toward cycling is really counter productive in my opinion. Such a dick move as it's really confusing what's meant to happen there, because you are allowed to cross that pedestrian crossing. The whole section is a clusterfuck of pedestrians, prams, shopping trolleys and all sorts of crazy things you see on rye lane which only adds to the confusion. I saw the same thing happening on the newly opened segregated cycle lane back from Blackfriars one night: it was in a part that is completely industrial buildings and there was a red light at a bike crossing. No one was in sight, let alone going to cross the 1 meter section of cycle lane; it was well past midnight, you know like the dead of night sort of thing. The police were watching the few cyclists slow down at the line and then go through it. At which point 5 coppers would jump out, take them out of sight of the cycle lane and fine them, with more waiting to catch the next one to come along. Luckily I stopped and didn't just carry on like I normally would so had no problem, even though they did look ruefully toward me. Yes yes I know rules are rules and all that crap, but no harm would ever come of that particular situation; no one was gunning it through the lights or anything. To think there were 5-10 cops about made me feel it was a waste of time and they could probably be out policing real crimes in the area. Great way to raise some money I reckon, that's all.

It's a very nice pace and great to head up that way without being on busy roads, everyone is friendly and welcoming too. Also the cycle lane is great!

Claim, > claim, claim! Thanks. I ended up having to leave the station and get a bus back from Blackfriars to Peckham, so want to claim back the money I've inevitably been charged for no journey. There was just no way anyone was getting on the trains. I waited over an hour on the platform, and missed two because of overcrowding. The guys working on the platform were great, and I can't fault them at all; they were saying they find it nuts that Thameslink operate 4 carriage trains for the 1734 and 1804 leaving blackfriars during peak time, even on a regular day without problems it's rammed.

Yea I generally agree with Jah Lush on this one too, so much take out stuff is crazy expensive when you look at what you can get to cook at home. Went to GB the other day and ended up paying ?30 for what is essentially 2 x burger and chips of the same quality as anywhere else; will not be going back.

Anyone managed to claim back money because of not being able to board a train because of only three carriages rather than 8? Train left on time but just no way to get on it...

We don't have a tv in our house, and I'm not tech savvy enough anymore to download things so I don't see how I'd be able to (please enlighten me haha). Considering we watch everything on a 13" laptop, it's just not worth it.

Imagine the BLM vs ALM like this: We are all at a restaurant and order food. The waiter comes along and gives everyone some food, except Bill. Bill says: "Bill deserves food" Everyone turns around and says: "Everyone deserves food". Even though the "Everyone deserves food" statement is true, the thing here is, it does nothing to rectify the fact *Bill has no food*. Kinda agree that they need to do that. Still won't make me buy a license. I just won't watch BBC programs anymore.

No announcement as to the fact of the > cancellation or why. It is an absolute joke. What time was that? I was getting the 1734 one which was relatively empty, and had hardly anyone on the platform waiting for it...Did everyone end up getting another one? Yesterday was a good train day: the 0810 from peckham to blackfriars was empty, air conditioned and I got a seat?!?!?! And the return was equally ok.

I was also going to ask how the trains from Peckham Rye to Blackfriars have been in the mornings? Starting new job tomorrow and need to arrive at 1000; so don't want to be late. Have they been delayed? Journey takes 15 mins but I was thinking of leaving an hour to spare just in case in the inevitable happens...

Not sure how relevant this is with people who have year passes etc, but a fellow student from college has developed a phone application which helps you get repaid from delayed trains. Not used it myself as I'm biking most places now, but there's a better write up here: http://www.standard.co.uk/news/techandgadgets/student-launches-app-to-claim-compensation-for-delayed-rail-passengers-a3304466.html

I'd do as Renata said. If you know it's regular, keep a diary of the days that they are doing it and ring the southwark noise council. We had the same on Danby St a couple years back and they helped out a great deal here.

Big up to the Gardeners at Peckham Rye Park

It's a great park, and always looks great. A real asset to the area in my opinion. Are they volunteer based? Also are they the same people that do the bees there too? -

You know they are just going to block off LL and park out front.

Man searching through wheelie bins this morning

(not directed at you, dirac!) Ha no worries! That is one thing I love about this area: if you want something rid, put it on your bin turn around three times and say 'belongings begone' as you are doing it and it's gone before you notice! On a serious note I'd never put things in the bin like that. I'm terrible for skip diving and seeing what people have left out for people to reuse. I've found so many amazing things over the years, and literally never have to buy wood if I need it. So much good quality wood in the skips in London/this area that just need the nails pulled out and cleaning up a bit; it's a massive waste. -

whoops haha! edited the spelling mistake! Oh no, once I'd found out it was for the shoes it was ok, I just have seen other threads on here where some people have been rifling through the recycling looking for bank statements and other sensitive mail. No problem with reusing clothes, it's a crime it was in the bin in the first place. Me having to go through and sort through all the stuff he'd emptied from the green bin to brown bin I should have emphasised as he'd opened the bags and tipped them out into it. -
Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > IMO the co-op needs to close. Went in for some > bits earlier and was shocked at the cost of milk. > Daylight robbery. To be honest, milk in a lot of places is immorally under priced; it comes at the expense of the producers. Believe me, a lot of my uncles, cousins and friends are dairy farmers and if it wasn't for places like co-op and "overpriced/snobby/yuppie farmers markets", they'd be out of business. I'm not saying that it justifies all of their prices, but on milk co-op are paying the producers enough for them to live off. Even then it's still not that much.

About 10 mins ago my girlfriend heard, and then watched from the bathroom window, someone going through our wheelie bins outside of our house on Danby St (off bellenden road). By time she'd got out of the shower to warn me, he was a couple doors down. He was going through the neighbors green bin, rifling through loads of clothes and then dumping it in the brown bin; systematically going through it. He didn't look in the blue recycling one, so assume he wasn't after letters etc. I asked him what he was up to, he didn't understand a word but held up some shoes he'd reclaimed and pointed to his bag where there were more shoes... He had a blue polo shirt and blue shorts on. Also had baseball cap on (curved peak). Pretty sure he had a shin/lower leg tattoo on right side. Anyone else seen this before? People walking by and postman didn't even bat an eyelid... p.s. sorry for duplicate wheelie bin thread, this is a different matter so thought I'd put it in a new one. Also if needs to be moved please go ahead...

If they have space and they are in my way I just hastily throw them in their front garden/porchway so it's in their way and have to do something about it. Although doing it for the whole street would be knackering.

I wouldn't call my neighbor selfish, but she's let her front hedge go a bit since she had the extension done and since moved back in: people can only pass single file on the pavement now. Needless to say when trimming mine yesterday I did hers, took me 5 mins with the trimmer. Took it back 45cm without denuding it too much, and will take it back more next month.

I was one of 5 kids growing up so if we had to wait to tuck in the person who got theirs first would be eating cold! That's worse in my opinion. To have the nerve to call someone out in their own home is also worse than what they were calling out for.
