  1. Phone Southwark Family Information Service and they can put in contact with childminders near you who might have a space.
  2. Get your point about dog poo but thought any posts in CAPITALS were removed but as this was this morning it doesn't look like it has been so you're lucky!
  3. Estate agents would say that though, wouldn't they? i.e. that as so many flats are still council owned to see your investment reap the rewards you would need to be there over 20+ years until the whole estate was regenerated and privately owned. Probably all the flats were council owned up until 20+ years ago but times have changed and people have bought their flats. Also, flats that have become vacant in the meantime have been sold off by Southwark Council over the past few years as seen by the big billboards up outside the estate during the past year or so.
  4. newtoedf, I agree with esme and think you should wait it out until your son starts big school. Don't worry now while he is still so young. shaunag's comment about 'maybe a change of stimulation will be enough to keep him going until September'? It's a shame you think your son is outgrowing his childminder. Why don't you have a chat with him/her to see what's going on as son could just be tired first thing in the morning? Would probably be the same with a nannyshare but even so childminders and nannies go out to lots of places every week.
  5. Thanks for that John, I thought it was around 1998 due to the plaque (1997) and just looking at the cars.
  6. Sorry about your bike. My son had his bike stolen from the bike park outside East Dulwich train station a couple of months ago. Same thing really, no CCTV outside and train station staff said it's something that's going on all the time apparently. British Transport Police were very good at the time but maybe it's time to get more CCTV at local train stations. Maybe ask at the garden centre and estate agents if they have any CCTV?
  7. It's very hard lately to get an appointment at my GPs too and there are more than 3, so you're not alone. It's quite worrying really. I was 10th in line on the phone the other morning as you have to phone the day you want to be seen. I was trying to get a routine appointment for my son but didn't in the end and as that was the only day which was suitable, you just leave it. Seldoc are out of hours too at Dulwich Hospital and in the Summer I had to phone them Sunday morning, about a problem I had, but couldn't be seen until the evening. My problem wasn't picked up on and I ended up taking myself to A&E the next morning, where they were very good and I was admitted for four days. Last Thursday evening my sister had to phone an ambulance for my Dad, who's 86 and has Alzheimers. She was told that as he was still breathing it would be a 2 hour wait. In that 2 hours we managed to make our Dad comfortable, although it was a very worrying time and phoned to cancel the ambulance.
  8. I'm also surprised that the Reception children are mixed with Year 1 and 2 at playtime. When my children were at Reception they shared their playground and classroom facilities with nursery aged children and I was happy with that. Considering that some Reception aged children have just turned 4 when they start in Reception it's a fine line but now with schools 'bulging' and Reception being over 90 kids it can be very chaotic!
  9. Why do cyclists jump red lights? Happened a few times to me. #They just seem to saunter through. As a pedestrian, you get the green light. Suddenly you get a cyclist coming at you and they pass by as if nothing has happened even though they've nearly knocked you flying! Happened to me (yet again) from a woman on a bike at the junction at Camberwell Nandos. She was totally oblivious to me or anyone else and looked like she had some kind of earphones on too. Do cyclists have any kind of insurance?
  10. Shawshank only 20 years old? Suppose I've been busy bringing up children but this is my all time favourite film. No mobiles or internet in 1994 as far as my world revolved (even now my phone is 8 years old) but I'm looking at how much the actors have aged over the past 20 years on Otta's Daily Mail link.
  11. The boarded up house isn't in front of The Charter School anyway as the OP put it. It's always been part of St Faith's as far as I've remembered and just because a vicar becomes less able or too ill to carry on why should it become prime land? Maybe the current vicar lives off-site but I hope it becomes part of something the community could benefit from.
  12. It depends whether your childminder is signed up with Southwark to offer the free 15 hours and also what they charge really. Have you asked her? Childminders have to have at least a 'satisfactory' grading at their last inspection to offer 3-4 year old free 15 hours and only a 'good' or 'outstanding' grading to offer the 2 year old free 15 hours. Childminders claim the cost of the 15 hours directly from Southwark Council. As of last November this was ?6.00 per hour for 2 year olds, going down to ?4.10 an hour for 3-4 year olds.
  13. I've recently applied for a DBS check for my 16 year old daughter as I'm a registered childminder. You go online, fill out details, have to pay ?52.10 and print off a Identity Checking Form which you have to show to a responsible person (there's a list of these on the form) with 3 forms of ID and has to be somebody the applicant has known for at least a year (a teacher in daughter's case). One it's signed by the responsible person and sent off you get your certificate. Still waiting for this but then there's another ?13 to pay every year to keep it updated.
  14. Why not do that (wrap up a few empty cupboard boxes) and collect other bits to make up a 'Treasure Basket'? You could put a few Playmobil pirates in the basket too, something familiar from his birthday.
  15. A pink Cadillac.
  16. Sorry about your bike. I've not been a bike rider but son has so know what you're going through. He had his bike stolen from outside ED train station a couple of months ago and nothing been solved etc. so far with Police/CCTV. He's had a couple of bikes stolen in the past. Coming through same spot last night I noticed there is some kind of CCTV trained right opposite ED train station from across the road (from where you are)? Strange that the Police have not picked up on this but I will try to make contact with them soon.
  17. I've pm'd ludoscotts about something.
  18. Otta, think Alice was just trying to apologise. You've already called her a 'knob' for her opinion. (Correct me if I'm wrong Alice).
  19. I've pm'd you.
  20. Books, books and more books!
  21. Is he a good sleeper? Maybe just initial tiredness at beginning of the day.
  22. I hope you find your coat Anna. It's not nice when something is stolen when you're having a relaxing time with friends but that's just when thieves are out and about. Hope you find something on the CCTV. Just an after-thought about your comments about Topshop being cheap. I went to Brixton today looking for a coat and found Topshop very tempting with their coats at ?89 but resisted!
  23. But it's meant to be a firework display, not a funfair. My daughter went there with her friends, got in early, but sounds like they were fed up with waiting around and her trainers tell the story of the park being a mud bath. She had no money to spend on other things and when the fireworks were nearly over they all managed to get out of the park safely.
  24. Can't your friend put a word in for you at Piplings if she can recommend it and move things along? Does sound like the nursery might be busy but two weeks is a long time to wait for a response back. Maybe go and knock on their door if you're local? Meanwhile, have you thought about a nanny/childminder for your baby (whether 12 weeks or older) as they can offer the same service? I've pm'd you.
