  1. It started with a kiss - Hot Chocolate
  2. Just out of interest does anyone know where the very loud music was coming from? Went on for a while and played 'Land of Hope and Glory' other hymns with the odd pop song thrown in? Thought it was Bessemer but their fair isn't til tomorrow. Edited for terrible grammar.
  3. I'm in Sunray Gardens regularly and agree that it's been overgrown for a while now, especially around the lake area. It's been full of overgrown brambles and stinging nettles for ages now and I'm forever having to watch out with the children I look after. Also the lake area has been in a stagnated state recently but maybe that's because of the weather? Seems a shame as it had an overhaul a few years ago. There's certain areas which the parks people keep well maintained and then areas which I've emailed about which are cut down for no reason and then left to stagnate. The playground area was refurbished a few years ago so not sure if there's any funds for more updates?
  4. Thanks for clarifying the situation TreacleRabbit.
  5. It all depends on your contract with your childminder but for the few hours between pick up from school and collection time from your childminder it's a difficult time. If you have a set time in your contract but pick up your child earlier than that's up to you. You will still need to pay the childminder.
  6. Let us hope and pray that Malorie is recovering from her terrible ordeal. She should have had total priority surely as a pregnant woman of 21 and what had happened. Earlier this year my family called for an ambulance for my Dad. God rest his soul he has since passed away, but we were told to wait up until 4 hours for an ambulance.
  7. littledaisy, it sounds from your posts like you have already done your homework concerning schools in the Dulwich/Herne Hill area even though you are still planning a family. The DVIS and Hamlet are more diverse than you state in your first post and I would recommend taking a walk down the village one morning. If you buy a place within 500m of the village schools (6 minute walking distance) who knows what will happen in the future? In 2007 I lived within a 12 minute walking distance from Dulwich Hamlet and got a place for my daughter.
  8. Any news, Stalkey? Hope the owner's been found.
  9. Poppy, it sounds from your post that's what my children were doing at that age with their reception teacher. Their reading book would come home once every week or so with a few comments made by the teacher/classroom assistant and I just went with that although felt they could have had more input sometimes. As a parent I looked at books, comics, road signs etc. with them everyday. It wasn't until I worked in a reception class that I realised how hard it was for teachers to get to know their class individually and support staff are crucial to this.
  10. Any news Ben? My son has had his bike stolen twice so know how you feel.
  11. Ofsted do seem to have their own rules. Only yesterday I'm sure I was able to read the Dulwich Village Infants School and the Dulwich Hamlets Juniors School Ofsted reports online. Both had their last Ofsted inspections in 2008! Now the DHJS Ofsteds over the last 10 years or so have disappeared to be replaced by something dated 2012 mentioning an academy.
  12. I love liver and bacon with onions and gravy. Also pate with French bread and butter.
  13. For the past few days I've noticed this bird around. It's been landing on the roof of a neighbours shed, tearing the blue covering up and then flying away with bundles which must be for its nest. Hanging out washing yesterday and saw it flying towards me, over my head straight for the shed again! Have told neighbours. Think the bird is a Mistle Thrush.
  14. There's reasons like they might not be Ofsted registered e.g. they have to be Ofsted registered to accept Childcare Vouchers and other reasons.
  15. Our lights flickered for a few minutes tonight and was on alert to get the candles out. I remember the powercuts in the 70s and not just that but also how cold it was too. No central heating then. As children we just got on with it but it must have been very hard for my Mum and Dad. The 'coal man' used to go up and down streets shouting "coal, who want's coal?" How times have changed.
  16. I would go with public transport. Most streets around the school are CPZs and others are full up around 8am. Have you asked at the school about parking?
  17. Hope you don't get a fine! I regularly drive down the bus lane coming from Peckham Rye to the Goose Green roundabout on a Sunday as there's no exemptions but was met with a few funny looks and gestures today as it was really busy with something happening at the goose green space.
  18. There's a mobile phone contact on the Southwark Council website. Click on C for childcare and then nurseries. Good luck!
  19. What a shame about all the local groups that use the scout hall. I've been to the toddler groups over the years and my kids have gone to the youth clubs and parties etc. and the space could do with a re-vamp but we just got on with it. According to the JAGS musical centre they will have so many parking spaces, including 30 overspill at the North Dulwich Tennis Club. Do the NDTC know anything about this? Flanter, I know of a great hall space nearby.
  20. Depends on their age really, but local park is always a great choice.
  21. Hi Bishberro, is your son left handed by any chance? Some left-handers have trouble holding a pen properly and so it can affect their writing? Just a thought. Also at age 7 he's still quite young so try not to worry. treehugger, I really hope handwriting doesn't disappear!
  22. Not at all the wrong choice of word and it's lovely that you and your sister are so close. Hope she has a great 40th!
  23. Depends where you are but Morleys in Brixton have a good department for ribbons, wools etc.
