Agreed, I don;t think southwark see motorists as a cash cow, otherwise they would actually encourage motoring! This council has an explicit political agenda against private car ownership. They don't impose all this expensive street furniture, road closures ("if I lived on Melbourne Grove ..." etc) double yellow lines, restricted parking , CPZs etc to make money. It costs a lot more than it raises. They are doing it because they don;t think people should have their own cars and they want to make it as inconvenient and difficult as possible for people to continue to do so.

Planning application submitted for new DHFC stadium

If the average gate is 1500 and a pint costs ?4, each spectator would need to drink 25 pints a season to generate ?150,000 of revenue. -

Sadiq Khan's intervention sounds as if he thinks it might get through at the original scale (and so built on the MOL) if it includes fewer private flats. -
Every day at the goose green playground traffic lights on Easy Dulwich Road I see similarly selfish cyclists steam through the red lights past the children and parents crossing in all directions to the local schools and nurseries. Regular offenders include one person with a small child on the back of their bike in one of those plastic bucket seats.

That's almost a hundred car parking spaces lost, not counting the upgrading of single yellow lines to double yellow lines all along bellenden road up to the junction with Maxted Road. The works around chadwick / bellenden road only really make sense if they are going to reopen Camberwell Grove. If not ten it will be carnage down there.

Where does that leave the football club? -
Apparently the Homemade Kitchen cake shop being stripped out on North Cross Road is going to become a book shop too.

Police will not investigate Shop lifting and Burglaries
Abe_froeman replied to DulwichFox's topic in The Lounge
When my bicycle was stolen a few years ago in central london the Met confirmed they weren't going to do anything more than send me a victim support letter and a crime reference number for insurance purposes. They didn't care that the bike was locked up in direct sight of three cctv cameras, they were not going to investigate. And the bike cost a lot more than ?50. Even the lock that was stolen with the bike cost more than ?50. So i stopped cy ling. -
Camberwell Grove rail bridge consultation
Abe_froeman replied to CityMum's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This consultation is not going to result in any changes at all to the overall traffic management in London It has a binary outcome of either 1) improving living conditions for a few very wealthy households at the cost of continued nuisance and pollution for a far larger number of residents on the alternative routes (and of course the children attending the schools and nurseries bordering those congested roads) or 2) putting things back to how they were very recently for less than ?20,000. That is about the same money as the council recently spent on a survey to have a think about changing speed humps yellow lines and a junction buildout in melbourne grove. I would urge anyone who suffers from the congestion caused by this bridge closure and the domino effect to respond to the consultation and ask for it to be reopened. -
Camberwell Grove rail bridge consultation
Abe_froeman replied to CityMum's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think rye lane shoukd be reopened. It is very dangerous for pedestrians in its current format because many cyclists assume they can bomb along as fast as theh like and dont have to think about their route really being on shared space. -

Yes Alex, those are the people I think should have a say in this. -
Camberwell Grove rail bridge consultation
Abe_froeman replied to CityMum's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Ok, sorry Sally I do still feel the purpose of this consultation is being hijacked. In my view the only consideration here should be whether the bridge closure adversely affects residents living in the vicinity of the bridge . Hopefully southwark will disregard responses from people with a postcode outside the immediate area so that the convenience of road users, of any sort, doesnt end up taking priority over the people who have to put up with the consequences. -
Camberwell Grove rail bridge consultation
Abe_froeman replied to CityMum's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I suppose it is helpful in one way, though, in that it puts residents of the streets with traffic jams imposed on them on notice that the cycling lobby are going to be responding en masse with the same resposne. So.if actual residents want to protect their homes against the interest of those passing through on bikes, they must participate in the consultation. -

That's a disingenuous and cynical interpretation of my words to support your agenda and it dies your cause no favour. -
Camberwell Grove rail bridge consultation
Abe_froeman replied to CityMum's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Having cars queue up on a few unfortunate streets to benefit the noisier (often wealthier) inhabitants of neighbouring streets doesnt help stop pollution or car use, it just amplifies it elsewhere. It's why thinking like "If I lived on Melbourne Grove I would want a barrier" is so antisocial. It is for the good of a few at the expense of the many. Banning traffic is one thing, banning traffic only outside mutli million pound mansions something quite different. -

I would have thought yo would be able to buy an entire replacement zapper for less than a tenner on ebay or similar. Is there any text on the casing that would indicate what make / frequency it is? I did this once with a replacement for an electric gate remote and all I had to do was put a battery in and set the switches numbered 1 to 10 to the same position as the old remote

Fox what are these 'Dreggs' you speak of? I only ever see young couples and suits from the nearby estate agents in the bishop?

Camberwell Grove rail bridge consultation
Abe_froeman replied to CityMum's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That just pushes traffic onto other people's roads as you have experienced yourself Beulah, and the increased traffic means increased pollution. Pollution which harms the children living on the roads with increased pollution but not those of the NIMBY's keeping their road closed. I have voted for it to be re-opened. -
Biggest problem on Peckham Rye right now is . . ?

I'm going with a) as well. The strets and parks are paved with dog mess and the council do nothing about it. At least they clear rubbish away. The dog eggs are just left to rot
