  1. At least they can charge all the extra passengers more money with the second ticket machine though!
  2. I guess it would also appeal to the groups of overseas school trips you occasionally see boarding the train en masse at Peckham Rye. I would think the noise fears are slightly unfounded. Many of the guests would want peace and quiet as much as the neighbours and would be closest to any noise. If the hostel is to be successful it would be in the pub's interest to enforce quiet even more so than it is now.
  3. Is this impression wholly wrong and unfounded... ? YES Are the tracks and the equipment on our lines older? NO Are our lines used by less healthy and less well-behaved people, who are therefore constantly falling ill on the trains, trespassing on the tracks etc, way more than passengers on other lines? NO, MAYBE YOU ARE A LITTLE BIT TOO CYNICAL.
  4. "...the council seem to think that this does not matter as people can phone or write - it is a licensing application for alcohol." I imagine at this stage with a confirmed line up and tickets on sale (as shown in Rolo Tomasi's link) the council will have already entered into a licence agreement giving this festival permission to use the park. So I think it is safe to assume this will be going ahead and publicising the alcohol and entertainment licence is a mere formality. The council will no doubt ignore any representations made about the licence application because the festival needs the licence to proceed and pay the agreed rent to the council.
  5. "Is it too much to ask why?" It seems so. If you are actually interested in why, a simple internet search would tell you that there were two points failures near Tulse Hill which meant no trains could run until Network Rail had fixed them .
  6. You can get a direct bus from the heart of East Dulwich to Picadilly Circus and Oxford Circus without having to change. It takes just over an hour which is not too bad considering the number of stop over the six / seven mile journey. Alternatively the train form ED to London Bridge takes 15 minutes and it's a further 8 minutes on the underground to bond Street. I did it myself this morning.
  7. That's possibly because noone on this thread has suggested walking or driving to london bridge or victoria is "the obvious solution".
  8. all you're doing here is talking down the price of the house you can't wait to sell.
  9. Yes these kinds of dorm are completely normal for backpackers allover the world. If it were used by workers that might actually be a step up, particularly for those who seem to be living in the back of some of those run down old white vans and lorries that are permanently parked up at the end of residential streets.
  10. There are already some parking spaces on that arched driveway. Presumably these are for the head teacher and other VIPs who would be massively inconvenienced if they had to put up with coaches parking on the driveway too.
  11. Having a few tourists stay over in ED would probably be very good for local businesses overall to the benefit of all residents. And I guess the pub might need to use the space better to ensure the whole building is economically viable.
  12. You could still queue up outside the shop, for the sake of tradition, even if they do take that Sunday off.
  13. It's only 15 minutes into central London though. If you were staying a week to do some sightseeing and it was ?20 a night to stay in a dorm it might be quite appealing...
  14. Is a hostel like this not usually aimed at backpackers / tourists on low budgets. Maybe school trips too.
  15. It sounds like you are very unlucky DL.
  16. How will removing parking and increasing double yellow lines improve the situation?
  17. Wood burning is extremely bad for the environment and public health. It causes more global warming than gas or electric heating and the particulates nox and o3 produced are causing countless health problems from asthma to death. It is as much a problem as smoky old diesel vehicles and in populous areas where people are raising families Khan is quie right to seek to ban it . http://www.bmj.com/content/350/bmj.h2757/rr-0
  18. I would probably not have restarted the discussion if I could have been bothered to search for the topic too! :)
  19. Cats have a very much smaller carbon footprint though rendel!
  20. Im pretty sure that this is just a rebrand and the toast was always in the terroirs group.
  21. I heard yesterday on TV there are 8 million dogs in the UK. Keeping pets generally is very bad for the environment. On average a dog has the same annual carbon foot print as a car. And the amount of waste produced to keep them is enormous.
  22. I think it's time dogs were banned in London now. There is / are dog owner(s) that let their beasts crap outside the school on Adys Rd and leave their filth behind for the children to wade through on their way thought the gates. It's an appallingly selfish way to carry on
  23. Yeah, but who is to say that the victims of these thefts wont join the 6% when they cant afford to go to work any more? A lot of people that seem to be doing ok are very much hand to mouth and the loss of a big ticket item like an essential ?500 commuter scooter could derail the whole show. The fact its bad for some doesnt justify it becoming worse for others.
  24. I wonder if they go in and shoplift multiple times, on each occasion storing their bounty in a nearby bin and then go back in for a bit more?
