  1. By far the majority of particulate and other pollutants in London do not come from private individuals driving cars. If we want a healthier city, we need to address all causes of pollution, other wise it looks vindictive and agenda driven rather than coming from a genuine concern about air quality.
  2. The problem with attacking only proaivte car drivers ios that the arguments lose credibility because they aren't levelled at all unneccesary particulate emissions. I.e. not just the private cars that some people (and Southwark council incidentally) seem to dislike so much, but why not complian about all diesel vehicles. If you (and Southwark) asked for something to be done too about buses, lorries, taxis ambulances as well. In fact road transport, (of which private cars form only a part) accounts for less than 50% of the NOX and particulates pollution released in London . Why not also go after people with wood burning stoves, bonfires etc? If the proponents of these sorts of schemes want to take people with them they have to drop what look like personal vendettas and impose inconvenience eaully on all the polluters, not just their favourite targets.
  3. Hello James, I have a further question re the proposed controlled parking zone in East Dulwich. Please could you tell me how much it will cost the council to implement the plans they have set out in the consultation document? Many thanks
  4. so is the pub open or closed, george?
  5. Youngs for instance. If they thought the Cherru Tree was value they would pay a fortune for the Palmerston.
  6. I cant see that site becoming flats. It is in the best location, has space for plenty of covers, a loyal local clientel and will habe no sitting tenant. It must be worth an absolute fortune to the right operator.
  7. Agreed nutmeg, and that does not contradict what Singalto says Joanna promised at the meeting. "40% more space" does not mean 40% more car parking space. It can mean 40% less car parking space though.
  8. The sub-headline of that article: The council?s plans say up to 40% of kerbside space could be freed up,..." I can't see this claim in the consultation document, but presume this is what was referred to in that meeting when residents were told there would be 40% more parking. Now it makes sense. There will not be 40% more parking. There will be 40% more unused kerbside space, taken up by double yellow lines parklets bike stands and more double yellow lines.
  9. Maybe so Rendel, but it says that he took over the pub with his business partner Jamie Younger.
  10. I don't really understand this. This article suggests that the tenants own the actual pub! https://www.morningadvertiser.co.uk/Article/2011/02/17/Exclusive-Host-turns-tables-on-Enterprise-Inns
  11. Very sad. Some great people working there. Will miss it a lot.
  12. The doduble yellows in some streets are going to be very extensive.
  13. James do any of the Councillors (Goose Green Ward or otherwise) actually live in the area under threat of the CPZ?
  14. I'm not even sure that they have included all the double yellow lines they will need to put in around the dropped curbs. For instance, there seem to be several new dropped curbs on Crystal Palace Road tat aren't included in their proposed scheme, but if it is going to work they will need to put double yellows in all the way up from the leisure centre to the actress on the east side of that road. On the map in the consultation they have put parking bays in where there are now dropped curbs.
  15. Are there not other "lollypop people" elsewhere on whately road to help you cross?
  16. "Would you like to hear about my flower idea...?"
  17. d.b. they did say exactly that! "Retain existing PGR, paint it dark green and affix pre-grown ivy screens to create low green barrier to seating area. Ivy planted in new soil at base of railings to help mitigate air pollution."
  18. I would suggest that if you don't want a CPZ in East Dulwich you should object to one in West Peckham too! The consultation closes on Thursday.
  19. Probably not much but anything is a help? I actually thought that was the only good idea in the whole scheme!
  20. A few quotes form the council, Ian, admitting a very strong desire to get this done: "I take on board your points about the Council being clearly in favour of the CPZ being implemented." "...on a global level the Council?s policy is that CPZs are good because of their impact on air pollution and road safety." "... the consultation is in part an opportunity for the Council to persuade people that a CPZ is a good thing... " "One of the key points of the proposed CPZs is to have fewer parked cars on the roads." It's so obviously a done deal and the consultation has been exploited in favour of the council's position.
  21. Mark the green screen proposals are to hang ivy on the existing pedestrian rails that come up to abiut waist height. Not 2m in height.
  22. The frank admissions that the council are desperate to implement it and the consultation documents were one sided will be very helpful in a judicial review against the seemingly inevitable decision to impose this CPZ on goose grren ward.
  23. I expect that detriment maybe more severe than people imagine too. For instance there is obviously a lot of parking pressure near to the leisure centre (evidenced by the number of dropped kerbs and driveways being built nearby). My worry is that the number of people using the leisure centre will drop dramatically if people from outside the area can't park nearby. That will be nice for a while because the facility will be much quieter, but the big reduction in income it precipitates may eventually it is no longer economically viable. So they will close it and build some executive flats there, at the same time giving young people one less thing to do and more incentive to hang around on the streets.
  24. Maybe it is easy to access, or because there are so many prius's the thieves are more familiar with finding and removing it making it quicker to nick.
  25. There is a yellow salt / grit bin on the corner of Crawthew / Frogmore which members of the public are free to use when it is icy. If a reader has a chance it might very helpful to take a handful of the grit and dump it on the relevant section of pavement.
