  1. I just don't understand where the council gets the money from for all this. Tens of thousands of pounds, probably hundreds of thousands, have already been wasted trying to impose changes on parking and traffic schemes year in year out, which are always rejected. Schemes that would only benefit a handful of people who bought million pound plus homes next to a train station and two busy main roads. This money would be much better spent buying PPE to save the lives of workers and residents in council owned care homes who earn and own a fraction of what those in Melbourne Grove do. It's utterly baffling a labour council (including self proclaimed marxists) would promote this scheme at this time.
  2. I think Sadiq Khan has approved it so it will go ahead.
  3. Oh, is the plan already to close all of Elsie Rd, Derwent Grove and Melbourne Grove? That will create a lot of extra congestion at each end of all those roads, and an island of pollution surrounded by EDG and Grove Vale
  4. If they close Melbourne Grove, eventually they will have to close Derwent Grove too. And then when that's closed they will need to close Elsie Road.
  5. From Melbourne Grove in the south to East Dulwich Grove in the North. One lane for south bound traffic only on Lordship Lane then make Melbourne Grove one way going the other way. This would allow Lordship lane to be handed over to very wide footpaths allowing the cafes pubs shops and restaurants much more space on thir pavements. You could even put a bike lane in if you had to appease the lycra lobby. It would also solve the problem of rat running in Melbourne Grove and you could sort out the junction at East Dulwich grove properly for once and for all.
  6. Most of the project is in DV. Most of the impact will be in Goose Green. Apart from all the traffic and pollution, part of the fallout will be the council feeling entitled to resurrect the dead, many times rejected projects to close off Melbourne Grove to traffic and implement a controlled parking zone across the whole area.
  7. It's especially non-sensical if they've also banned any actual burials.
  8. It could be cynical if the scenario was that they reduce services taxpayers pay for instead of reducing payments to councillors or pay rises to those implementing the service reductions etc - that's one hypothetical. there are otherse
  9. Suspect this is just a cynical money saving exercise by the council.
  10. Absolute jokers
  11. It does look like only fans supporting the application (who would normally bother to comment in support of a planning application for property developer?) does "I like watching football" carry much weight in a housing planning application? The supporting comments don't seem to have any other basis .
  12. If you look at the very last page of this, it does seem that the Mayor / GLA agree with the developer that "Very Special Circumstances" exist to build on the MOL. https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/files/A48E3D48D97AF8CB770B010750704577/pdf/19_AP_1867-GLA_0083C_01-815774.pdf
  13. I suppose, as Rockets points out, they can say that the changes caused by them building a wall around the private schools means that feasiblity study they commissioned that advised against closing Melbourne Grove, is no longer valid. An absurd amount of time and money was squandered on it and achieved absolutely nothing a reminder here: /forum/read.php?5,1536718,page=27
  14. how much money have the council spaffed up the wall consulting on whether or not Melbourne Grove should become a gated community? It's odd that James McAsh would support that proposal given his wider stance on property ownership.
  15. There is someone on here who always goes on about how appalling it is that so much public land (the sides of the roads) is given over to parking. These double yellows now reserve quite a bit of that land for the exclusive use of a very small number of homeowners to get to and from their own private parking spaces. A true victory for cycling!
  16. I think they will put double yellow lines in those gaps. I've seen a similar such gap over a dropped curb that is no longer in use but ate least two parking spaces will be lost
  17. The grid lock is all caused by the phasing of the traffic lights (possibly by design). If there were round abouts instead traffic would flow much more freely.
  18. There are plans to impose parking restrictions on every single street in Southwark
  19. The cafe owners must be thrilled!
  20. On their bicycles of course!
  21. Another alternative would be to find a new cleaner who lives locally or can travel by bicycle.
  22. Good news this morning https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51658693
  23. It won;t stop parents parking for the morning drop offs either, given the children have to be inside before 9am.
