  1. That's impossible tiddles. See photographic evidence above of there being no cars at all on any of the roads you mention
  2. Which end of the roads have they stuck the new planters?
  3. You're a lucky guy. My neighbour's kid starts at the Judith Kerr school next week. 1.5 miles walk each way is quite a big expectation for a four year old, especially at the end of the day.
  4. Suspect they wanted to get them in quick before the backlash elsewhere against this nonsense fully tips into ED and it became impossible for them to implement.
  5. That might work in normal circumstances John, but the public have been scared witless by the Mayor that they will die of coronavirus and take a few key workers with them if they travel on public transport . People would rather be inconvenienced by traffic than be inconvenienced by a deadly virus in a public transport petri dish.
  6. Do you know who else is white wealthy and middle aged? Most of the people who live on the roads that have been gifted these closures. The councillors promoting them don't seem particularly diverse either
  7. It's been fairly obvious from the start that these proposals have a (no doubt unintended?) racial bias.
  8. Johnson famously rode his bike around London when he was mayor
  9. Have any of our councillors visited the ward to see the impact of the recent changes?
  10. They'll be gone by then though, living in the countryside and pootling about in cars.
  11. Isnt the plan for the coaches to park at the grove tavern ?
  12. Is there any public transport at so inside any part of the zone subject to these measures?
  13. The difference between those councils and ours is that they have some opposition councillors where as we just have labour councillors.
  14. It's a shame for all those sports clubs on burbage road. We cancelled out family membership of one of them over the summer in anticipation of the healthy streets programme being forced through without consultation and now drive to another sports club that is less painful to get to.
  15. It's more likely the bin lorries will reverse into the closed streets. I've seen one doing this regularly at the junction of Lynton Road and Chaucer Drive in Bermondsey (which is a closed road with an actual cycle route on it). The bin men act as banksman and give right of way to cyclists as the guide the lorry down the road backwards
  16. "Out of interest, can anyone who is in favour of these closures please articulate to me why they are necessary?" The dream is to make car ownership so unattractive that everyone sells their cars and takes chances with coronavirus on a local bus instead.
  17. I simply don't believe that any of the pro road closures lobby would use dodgy data or wilfully misinterpret stats to further their campaign.
  18. In another nearby borough I discovered today the residents themselves have removed one of the new planters blocking their road because they were so fed of up all the new congestion caused by cars trying to find alternative routes and endlessly u turning. The implementation and outcome of these schemes have been utterly woeful.
  19. When you say "we" exduwlicher, does that mean you work for the department of southwark council that is (jointly) culpable for this?
  20. I'm not particularly convinced that the vandalism is perpetrated by people opposed to the schemes. If the damaged monitors record no traffic that is evidence that the measures have worked and there has been no displacement of traffic - a green light for more closures...
  21. So now we get to the crux of this.
  22. If you wanted to drive your lorry down CAlton Avenue, pick up an ice cream and then turn around and go home again, it would bee rather tricky with all these people sitting on deckchairs int he middle of the turning space
  23. Seems to be ?335m over 5 years and I guess they hope the money taps turn on immediately in October 2021 so maybe the upfront cash required isn't that much or is on Capita's account to start with? https://www.capita.com/news/capita-contracts-extended-by-tfl
  24. "all retail is having a rocky ride which is likely to get worse and I can?t really be against an initiative that might increase footfall to the area" Not even if that initiative forces traffic and congestion on the roads in east dulwich making our retail spaces less attracctive and more polluted causing a decrease in footfall for our local shops?
