Southwark Environmental Scrutiny meeting next week
Abe_froeman replied to legalalien's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It doesn't sounds like this was very coherent given how confused all of the above reports are! -
Do you sometimes get the impression that some of these councillors just rub people up the wrong way and make things worse?

Southwark Environmental Scrutiny meeting next week
Abe_froeman replied to legalalien's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks Legal Alien That finally confirms the war on motorists that has been denied on here for so long: "Recommendation 5: Drive down total private vehicle usage over time so that by 2030 only a limited number of EV vehicles are in common use on Southwark roads. Set targets for yearly traffic volume reduction. Adopt a local target to halve petrol and diesel road journeys by 2025, and by 90% by 2030, and encourage London Councils and the Mayor to do likewise" It also confirms that this is the sole motivation for parking controls and road closures: "The council, though, has limited tools to help deliver a reduction in private vehicle ownership and usage, with our parking controls and network management being the strongest. A series of proposals in both these areas are being explored by officer" -
possible congetsion charge extension

The hopper fare has come at a very significant cost to TFL and to Londoners... "But the mayor is also planning big cuts to London's buses. He says the bus fleet needs reorganising as Crossrail means many services will not be needed in central London so they will be moved to outer London. But it will mean for some passengers there will be longer waits between buses. The "hopper" will also cost ?35m a year and TfL's budget is already under strain. So you could argue to pay for the "hopper", bus services are being cut and becoming less frequent." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-42887323 -
Looking for "I Love Dulwich" stuff
Abe_froeman replied to Sam Toucan's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don't think they make "I Love Dulwich " stuff as there simply aren't enough people who do to make it commercially viable. You can get plenty of "I Love East Dulwich" stuff though... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lplpol-Dulwich-Coffee-Birthday-Christmas/dp/B07VNFBF8M -

I think a lot of people pointed out before he was elected that his fares freeze was unsustainable, so not really damned if he didn't. The hopper fare he invented has also cost TFL vast sums -

If the best defence you've got of the Mayor is that you don't like Boris either then it's a pretty poor show -
wow! They're making ?1 million a month from just 4 cameras!!

E.g 25 feet of new double yellow lines on Crystal Palace Road at the request of the homeowner because they can't always get their own car over the pavemement and onto their private car parking easily enough... Seems at odds with the councillors' aims of reducing private car ownership / use

Goose Green councillors - how can we help?
Abe_froeman replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi James I wondered if the council might support active travel by doing something about all of the leaves, dog waste and rainwater lakes that hide the pavements of East Dulwich? I took a stroll along the new LTN today and tried to come back via Grove Vale but the route was so precarious and obstacle ridden, and I lacked the foresight to wear a pair of waders, such that I have come home with a lightly sprained big toe and very, very wet cold feet. How much would it cost the council to level out the reservoirs and sweep the paths every so often? -
Council Meeting Live from 4pm today
Abe_froeman replied to Rockets's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
But the kind of questions they usually ask are like "Would prefer us to close some roads or to take your first born into lifelong slavry for Toilet St.?" -

Quite a positive message from the council leader about addressing concerns to find the best way forward. -

Yesterday the council published a bunch of TMOs which give effect to road closures including the closure of Peckham rye eastside (and the associated right turn onto East Dulwich Road), as well as those in Townley / Burbage road etc. Details here: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/transport-and-roads/traffic-orders-licensing-strategies-and-regulation/traffic-management-orders?chapter=5 No doubt this will have an appalling impact on the residents around Barry Road / Forest Hill road on the east of our community. The Dulwich Village changes may actually improve conditions in East Dulwich Grove, but other people will pay the price for that.

If you are going to ask Bob Buzzard out for a pint you should do it today before the new lockdown comes in. -

Steven, I think you are going to fit in very well around here. Big loss for Surbitonians, I suspect. -
