  1. So this morning a neighbour alerted my husband to the fact that last night a man (don't have a description) came up to our house and left a chalk mark on the exterior and thinks it was done to a couple of other properties in the street. Possibly some scumbag scouting for houses to break into (they will be sorely disappointed by the cracked iPad and 15 year old telly and angry cat if they do!) Neighbour has reported it to the police and I'm currently waiting for 101 to answer so that I can report it too. Might be worth checking your exteriors.
  2. Have you letterboxed Rodwell or Heber Road? Might be worth it as I live on Rodwell and there are quite a few ginger boys (I've got one too) who hang around.
  3. Unfortunately I couldn't make it to the meeting last night and haven't received a hard copy yet but I've filled in the survey online. I only live two roads away so count myself extremely lucky to have this resource so close to hand.
  4. I lived in Tooting(Bec)for years and would wait on average for 3-4 tubes to go past before being able to squeeze on. Once it got to Balham it was impossible and I knew people who would get the tube down to Tooting Broadway so they had a better chance of getting on. When I moved to Clapham Common I gave up completely and got the bus to Vauxhall. The other day I had to get the tube from Oval (at around 7.30) and waited for 15 minutes before I could get on not complaining though, that's the reality of travelling in rush hour. ED is brilliantly served for London Bridge (when the trains run) and I'd much prefer getting the bus to work. Yes it takes a while but I'm generally more relaxed, get a seat most days and can hop off and walk if the traffic is shit. I do agree that the cycle lanes around Vauxhall have seriously slowed bus travel and the cycle lanes are not widely used but that's life. Would rather be stuck on a bus than tube any day.
  5. I was able to do it about a month or so ago but my husband has tried at home, work and now i've tried at work to no avail,
  6. Yep, same here on Rodwell Road around 8.40am. Not just bins on street but also bins in front yards.
  7. oh great, thanks for the tip on vistors discount, i think we'll try that. to apply for a zip card you need to pay a 15 quid per card so not really worth it for a weekend
  8. Brilliant, thanks all! Forgotten all about Camden so will be sure to suggest that! and Angel as she lived in Highbury as a little girl so she might find that fun. She moved from London when she was about 5 but has been back since with her parents and school visits so has seen the more obvious sights like the Eye, Shard and some of the galleries and museums. Top of her list are Lush, Hollister, A&F and Topshop so if she agrees to some 'alternative' activities i might give in to a Sunday shopping spree!
  9. i'm after ideas to entertain my thirteen (going on 21) year old niece over a weekend this summer. goes without staying that a shopping trip to oxford street (please god no!) will be expected, although i'm trying to convince her that somewhere with a bit more personality like brick lane would better but the lack of Holister might be a deal breaker. was thinking brockwell lido if we queue early enough, burgers at meat liquor (if it's open by then ) and maybe the picture house for a film but ithat all sounds a bit tame? open air cinema would have been fun but there doesn't seem to be anything local or suitable for under 16's. all suggestions welcome! she's bringing a friend so need to keep the costs down as much as possible and I'd like to do some local stuff as well as the big smoke.
  10. I've recently returned from an amazing holiday in Sri Lanka. It's a truely beautiful country, the food was amazing and the people were kind and welcoming. it's less developed than Thailand, which is becoming quite package resorty on the islands. We didn't stay in any of the larger towns but had we stayed longer we would have visited Galle in the south which has a Dutch colonial past and Kandy in the Hill Country which is where the tea plantations are situated. Instead we spent our time in the Cultural Triangle where you could easily spend up to a week exploring the major historical sites of Sigiriya (Lion Rock) and the ancient ruined cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, we managed a whistlestop tour most of the major sites in 3 days which was pretty full on but worth it even in the insane heat and humidity - we went at the end of April so it shouldn't be as bad in July. iAt this time of year the beaches on the east coast should be free of the Yala monsoon which affects the west coast around this time. The east is still developing but the bonus is that the beaches are relatively free of sprawling concrete resorts but that will soon change so go now! feel free to PM me for more details.
  11. if I can help in anyway with leaflet distribution please let me know. We always keep our cat in at night as he's not much of a prowler but we've been keeping him once dusk sets in since the attacks in Crystal Palace. i'm so glad we did as we live on Rodwell Road. It's such a sad and sickening situation.
