New Shops in Dulwich / Peckham - 2024 Edition
DulwichSal replied to Joe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We ate at Viet Flavours last night - the quality is excellent - home made noodles, generous portions, really fresh, high quality chicken - totally delicious. We had the tasting menu which was actually very good value for money - lots to eat and we left stuffed. Run by the lovely Anne and her family, we will certainly be back to support this great new option to the high street. -
Again another recommendation for Roger at Critter Solutions. Having given me some excellent and uncostly advice regarding moths over the summer, when we saw a mouse over the weekend in the house, I got in touch with him immediately. He came over and assessed the situation, didn't charge me a call out as it seems Mr Mouse was just on a fly by and no evidence of any of his pals. But if I saw any more I wouldn't hesistate to call him. He deals with several properties on our road. Excellent service, extremely professional and very reassuring. The world needs more Rogers!

What will Lordship Lane look like post-Covid?
DulwichSal replied to Rockets's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Next door won't be reopening from what I heard from one of the staff there - they are planning to make it a bigger fishmongers. Too small to even maintain 1m distancing and many of the customers they relied on are in the older age bracket and they feel will be more at risk. An enormous shame as it a superb restaurant that had spent a couple of years building up its reputation and one we had planned to be first customers back in. Let's hope Mr Moxon changes his mind but I also see it from his side of the fence -
Brilliant local personal trainer - David Wilson
DulwichSal replied to Valerie Rowe's topic in Reviews
I can highly recommend David Wilson if anyone looking for a PT to not only help them get fit but also outside of training sessions, be provided with continued encouragement and focus. My husband and I have been trained by David for nearly 2.5 years and am possibly his least dedicated client, always an excuse for not doing things when out of training! We simply want to maintain a level of fitness, not be muscle Marys. Our fitness levels are now great and we work out twice a week in the park with him, rain or shine. However at this start of this year we decided to show some further willpower and try and lose some Christmas weight. He adapted our sessions and workouts to up the pace, and gave us so much encouragement via texts through the weeks. Through a controlled diet, meal planning and exercise, in just 3 weeks I lost over ? stone and my husband over a stone before we went on holiday. Proved we had willpower and feel amazing for it. We are now less zealous having reached our goal but David continues to encourage us, provides us with workouts to do whilst away (we are abroad at the moment) , a thumbs up if we do it and no guilt if we don?t. It?s a very trusting working relationship and works well for us. If you are looking for a shouty, aggressive instructor, David is not the man for you. If you want to have a laugh whilst getting fit, feel amazing and better about yourself, David certainly is. If you want to contact David please call: 07886819934 You can also reach him on: www. fitfunactive.co.uk/david-wilson/ or email him on: [email protected] -
Attempted break in to van Melford Road
DulwichSal replied to DulwichSal's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just had the builders van broken into again in exact same location - nothing taken again but yet more damage - beware there are people casing the roads - this happened between 11.130 and 12.30. -
Really pleased to hear that entrepreneurs are prepare to (and are able to ) put right years of neglect which you can?t see at site survey. Having just bought a hotel in Suffolk that all surveys said was in good nick... and we know how that can go. It?s cost us a similar amount of money but we are delighted to invest in the community there. You would think ED locals would be happy that people will take a risk. Shameless speculation can really tar a business but more and more real people find it less credible. Wishing you the best and will be in as soon as we can.

Our contractors have just had their van side window smashed into on Melford Road - he had only been parked there for 20 mins and nothing on display... The alarm went off and they scarpered - just a warning. 101 informed.

Thanks this is good advice.

I have just been to drop my daughter off at a swimming gala at the College and their comms board is all about a spate of muggings in Dulwich Park this week and advising the children not to walk through the park etc. Police are aware. Wondered if anyone else has heard of this? I am in the park several times a week and only this morning marveled at how lucky we are to have this on our doorstep. Anyway - just be careful and maybe warn your children (and others) to be more vigilant.

Royal Mail Sorting Office Closure Meeting..
DulwichSal replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Having taken 35 mins to get here now been stood in a queue for another 35 mins and I got at least another 30 mins to wait. A total joke. It?s not even Christmas. I will be getting it Re delivered in future but I had to pick this up as it is finally a new bank card from having been scammed through the British airways data theft. I have written twice to Helen Hayes... no reply as yet -
If it is indeed happening it is a long way off - I walked past last night and it is still full of Barcelona's old toot and no sign of any works happening.

Tinseltown Dulwich park - did anyone go?
DulwichSal replied to missyelliott's topic in The Family Room Discussion
we also had a look at going but having seen the space it occupied in the park it didnt feel value for money at nearly ?90 for a family... i said to them i would take them next year if feedback was good. would be interested to hear... -
This place is an accident waiting to happen. I have lived in the area for over 30 years, for many years on Turney Road, walked to school up Calton Avenue, learnt to drive in the area, negotiated traffic down Court Lane etc. This week I have witnessed 4 near accidents, everyone confused with the right of way.

Brilliant local personal trainer - David Wilson
DulwichSal replied to Valerie Rowe's topic in Reviews
My husband and I have been training twice a week with David since September with the aim to tone up and lose some weight, and importantly stick to it. He has transformed our thoughts towards exercising and carefully plans and tailor the sessions every time so that we don?t have time to worry about repetition. We were not looking for a pushy trainer, we wanted someone who would do so without us realising and that is just what David does, all with a great sense of humour! I have found I have muscles I never knew existed. He also has helped us think more about what we eat ? we used to skip breakfast and then be starving by dinner time, but we now eat three balanced meals a day, have cut down our wine intake massively and are watching the calories more sensibly. I didn?t realise for my age that 2000 calories was actually 500 too many for my previously sedentary lifestyle!. We still have our fun/eat/drink too much at weekends and are less careful but make sure we try and do one or two exercise sessions on our own to keep up the momentum - we now 'earn our treats'. Ten weeks in and I have lost 9lb, have tone in my arms and previously very flabby belly and feel fabulous. My husband has also lost about 9lb. We are so pleased with David that we have already booked him for our second block of sessions, now not really to lose weight, although a little more would be nice, but just to keep fit - we have found it beneficial both physically and mentally. Highly recommend him.
