  1. I'm a little late here but can I just say, perhaps the public turn-out was low at the first meeting about this closure, because people didn't know it was happening? I would have been there had I known the meeting was taking place. Too late now obviously...
  2. ahhhh if it?s just an enforcement of the existing signs that indicate where dogs need to be on a lead, I?ve no issue with that.
  3. I?m totally confused - what are the new regulations? I walk my dog daily on the path in the morning - she is meek and follows at my heel. I always clean up after her. I don?t want to walk the overgrown path in the winter because it?s wet, muddy and honestly as a woman on my own it doesn?t feel safe to walk through undergrowth where you?re not visible to the general public. Honestly I?ve run through some sections realising it can be quite dark even in daytime. So are we saying that I risk getting a fine for walking the path or risk getting robbed \ raped \ muddy for taking the overgrown path? This is a public space. If I have understood this correctly, it?s very sad news indeed.
  4. we recently used this company: http://www.economycarrentals.com/ we were met in the terminal by a rep from Europcar who then drove us to a location around 5-10mins from the airport (hence the reason it was cheaper I guess as you don't have the convenience of the car being actually in the terminal) All ran very smoothly and I think it was around half the price of what we would have paid - worked out less than ?10 per day. The earlier you book, the better rate you'll get. good luck!
  5. 100% against CPZ! I can see zero benefit. For the pleasure of parking outside my old flat in Herne Hill which is in CPZ, you now have to pay ?3 an hour on the meter. That gets expensive very quickly. I've had parking tickets even WITH the the friends and family permits (my error but it cost me ?120 and you can bet there's no sympathy at the council for honest mistakes). I do not want Traffic Wardens on mopeds trying to catch us all out. It's extortion. We'll all be poorer and there will be fewer places to park. Honestly, it would make me want to leave ED... Avoid, avoid, avoid.
  6. whoops posted this in the wrong section and don't know how to move / delete it. sorry!
  7. Gorgeous antique child's chair for sale - ?40 located in ED. Please PM me if you want to come and take a look thanks! ali
  8. Uber encourages 'dumbing down' what about Black Cab drivers who have spent years learning 'the knowledge' only to get priced out by cab drivers who don't know one street name. London is special because of Black Cab drivers who can get you from A to B without having to use an app. If Uber gets their license back, we'll be like every other international city with cab drivers that don't know their arse from their elbow. Anyone whose tried a yellow cab in New York knows what I mean. I welcome this...
  9. I shipped crated art from Thailand to LA using a US firm called Xpeditious. I had to purchase separate insurance. You would need to get it created. They are not specialist art couriers but there are specific firms who handle art - depends how much you want to spend tbh. Good luck
  10. I will be very sorry to see this go :-( First it was the post office by Sainsbury's & now it's this (I know the PO just moved but it went to a less convenient location for me so I never use it) Where can I find the questionaire?
  11. seriously. how many of you are dog owners/lovers on this thread. think about this... I take my dog for a walk in the park. On the way back, I realise I need some milk. I tie the dog up outside the shop as I HAVE NO OPTION TO TAKE THE DOG IN. The dog gets stolen. Then it would be MY fault for leaving my dog outside for 5mins? I would love to take my dog in but so many shops are hostile. I tried to take her into the Post Office and was told to leave her outside (btw there is nowhere to tie your dog up outside unless you want them to get run over by a bus) so I had to leave. So instead of taking my dog out on fun jaunts these days, she has to sit at home bored as hell. Something's not right. More dog love please.
  12. Thanks all - yes BT infinity & I'm located on Goodrich (LL end) we are still not online 48 hours later. Hurumph. I was told there was a local issue that they've now resolved but seeing as we're not back up, we must have a problem with our router :( I'm just buying vast quantities of data on my phone instead. Fingers crossed it gets fixed tomorrow !
  13. Grrr BT wifi's been out for 24 hours & I work from home. (they tell me there's a problem in the area) Any recommendations on the best cafe that wouldn't mind me propping up & working for a few hours? Thx :-)
  14. that's really helpful, thank you :) !
  15. Hi there I run my own business and need to up my game in terms of online profile + social media. Can anyone recommend a course that would bring me up to speed on how to get the most out of Twitter / Facebook / Instagram? Ideally I'm looking for something I could do in a day (or a couple of days max). Has anyone else done similar? I need to get myself out of the stone age.... thanks! Ali
  16. Ok so wasn't this shop a clothes exchange - you took your clothes in. Someone else buys them. But instead of being given cash for the sale (less a fee) you were given credit in store. For me, if I'm selling designer clothes - it's because I need the cash. Not more designer clothes. I used to work in fashion so perhaps am the exception to the rule but eBay served me better. That being said, it's a shame to see it go - especially as it donated to breast cancer - but for me, their business model didn't make sense.
  17. two white guys - one younger one who was brunette (around 25/30 yrs old who was driving). A slightly older guy about 50 yrs old. The older guy did most of the talking. white large-ish pick-up truck that has wood panels propped up inside so you can't see what's inside. thanks all for being kind about my error. Now I'm off to the shops to buy my neighbour a bottle of wine and explain the bin situ :-/
  18. I asked the council already who were exceptionally unhelpful and wouldn't take the planks of wood over 6ft. Unfortunately, these guys caught me on the hop - but fair point...
  19. thanks for your kind words :) no I wasn't quick enough to take their number plate, but just wanted to share as they seemed nice (to begin with)... hopefully it will make someone else stop and think before they get involved with these guys. I definitely should have known better!
  20. just to share, I had 2 guys in a pick-up / van drop by and ask to clear the stuff from my front garden this morning. Don't answer the door to these guys - I wish I hadn't! we had some oversized wood panels that the council refused to collect as they're over 6ft and some earth in bags and a metal stand. My first question was 'how much' to which he replied 'don't worry we'll look after you'. My friend was at the door and said 'wow there ARE still some good people out there'... then 5mins later he asks for ?60 for loading it, while already loading it on the truck. Feeling like I was over a barrel, I agreed to ?50 but had to go the bank as I didn't have all the cash in the house. I gave him ?40 in cash and walked to the bank. Came back and the front was clear except the metal which he then explained he couldn't take because it's scrap ?? Feeling like he was ripping me off - I asked him to clear 2 more pieces of wood from the back garden for the final ?10. He said he'd come back at 5pm for them to which I replied 'perfect but I'll give you the final ?10 then'. As they left I noticed that my neighbours garden waste bin was in my garden - they had just filled my neighbours bin with all the earth from the bags (that I don't think the council will collect) and it's so heavy it's difficult to move. Two seconds later they then come back demanding the final ?10 to which I pointed at the bin and pointed out it wasn't even mine. I refused to pay the final ?10 unless they came back and got the last of the wood. Now I'm feeling ?40 out of pocket, have to explain to my neighbours why their bin is full of earth and waiting for a brick to come through my window ;-) Not a good start to the day. Don't be as silly as me and answer the door to these guys...
  21. I have never used the gym but I swim regularly and have no complaints - I love the pool, just wish they had more time slots available for lane swimming. Also it's reasonably priced at ?2.20 per swim (I pay an annual fee of approx ?60 as a local). They are doing some things right :-)
  22. We haven't had wifi since last night :( BT trying to solve it within 2 working days. ho hum...
  23. My daughter gets Aquila 'magazine' & loves it https://www.aquila.co.uk I would highly recommend ...
  24. just wanted to echo what a few other people have said here - I voted Lib Dem solely for James Barber who definitely deserved to win!
  25. DMC is a disaster. I wanted to speak with a nurse so called the surgery - they gave me a phone call appointment 2 weeks later. I got several text messages confirming the appointment - then no phone call came. I called the surgery to find out why & they said that that nurse was off for a month and someone should have called to cancel all the appointments. They offered me another phone call appointment... but a further 2 weeks later. Really a WHOLE MONTH TO GET AN APPOINTMENT TO SPEAK TO A NURSE! It was the final straw and I have now just left the surgery - appalling service. Mailing the NHS now...
