I know this is nuts but I am actually thinking of voting Labour (again, even though I am a Tory at heart) after hearing of Browns temper and bullying,I want someone who will get annoyed if things are not done running the show, with Cameron I just don't get anything from him, its like there is a void there. Now if Lord Mandy was to run for PM i would vote for him in a heartbeat. He has what it takes. With the Europe thing once the treaty was ratified by all nations it was a done deal, there was no hope of a referendum really.

In China you don't get rewarded for failure like you do here, RBS is bankrupt with losses last year of $40billion and this year of $6billion yet they pay out bonus's of $2billion. The show is over, the spivs should be shown the door, if they don't want to do it go because there are a lot of people who will step into their place. The government doesn't know how to play the game and are being bent over at all turns by market traders with a degree who do know how its played. Bonus day in a bank is a series of revolving doors with people leaving and new people starting, if they think by paying these people what they want they will somehow get loyalty from it they are sorely mistaken. Most of those companies that have failed have done so because of said banks not allowing them to survive when they themselves are bust, tragically ironic. $30billion, dream on, QE alone is $300billion

The only true capitalist government at the moment is the Chinese one. They are willing to let companies fail. as the Chinese PM quipped to all the western leaders at a G whatever meeting a year or so ago he has had to re-read his Adam Smith just to check he was following the right path. Re-read being the salient point.

You must have seen these places in the far flung colonies where a person gathers together a bunch of people by claiming huge discounts on goods and proceeds to push the price up by getting mates to keep bidding, its one of the oldest scams in the world. What happens is the crowd become overcome with the desire to purchase this product simply because its being auctioned so therefore must have a value. E bay is simply the 21st century version of this but without the shill.

Its probably that bloke off the bus Huguenot!
-
As Huguenot pointed out unless their is political unity as well as economic unity the Euro will fail at some point. It may not fail in this case because Greece is a non entity when it comes to economic power but it will fail when the likes of Italy or Spain defaults on its debt. I believe by then though there will be a unified political government any way so it will be academic. Oh and the real danger is not in re jigging the debt of the banks but in the credit default swaps market which has the potential to be totally destructive. This was the sole reason why the Fed has so far given AIG over 200 billion dollars of loans and are still happy to cash out whenever AIG asks for it.

Banged on about it day and night, bored them senseless with it. Actually I helped the local economy by staying in a 5star deluxe hotel for three weeks, what more could I have done. The Seychelles is one place on earth I would loved to have lived it was that beautiful, sadly it will probably get too hot now so its off the menu.
-
Spent three fantastic weeks there some years ago and will never forget the stunning beauty of the islands. All the islanders we met even though not that well off were so happy and content, then again if I lived in such paradise I would be too.

Do you mean in the Biblical sense Brum?

Ah, the climate change levy for business. Just wanted to highlight that, as it doesn't apply to domestic users - so we don't want any myths circulating. You say that like it doesn't effect people just business, business's are people especially small business's like mine. Every pound that we are taxed more is a pound less we can reinvest in the company. This government has continuously raised business taxes thinking wrongly that it does not effect people directly, they are so wrong in this belief.
-
Science has told us that Earth undergoes regular climate cycles. There's nothing new in that chappie - no epiphany, no revelation for the skeptics. You're not denying that, right? No denial on that. A vast consensus of quality science also tells us that human activity is currently ushering in the next climate change sequence, and doing it so fast that it represents a significant self-inflicted tragedy. A large proportion of this science is based on data that we are not allowed to see, that leads me to question its validity. Frankly vinceayre, your assertion on tax is silly. With all the good reasons to be disappointed about climate change you have to go and make one up. Climate change reduction involves moving away from consumption of hydrocarbon energy sources. This means raises of less than 5% in leccy bills to fund renewable sources, and more use of public transport. It recommends reducing senseless waste and over consumption. The impact on tax will be negligible. Last year my energy bill was ?30,000 plus, i paid over ?1200.00 in climate change levy, a tax imposed on me by the government quite a few years ago. I estimate i have paid over ?5,000 in this tax since its inception. That may be nothing to you but to me its a lot of money. I am a baker and waste is one of our cardinal sins so I am all for saving energy and time and materials. Some commentators reckon it might have the impact of a reduction in GDP by as much as 1% - a figure which will have negligible impact on anyone's actual life. For comparison, the credit crunch created by the city boys created a shrink in GDP of at least 6%, and we're not bothered enough about that to legislate to prevent it happening again. Agreed, but the boom they created in housing and capital wealth has made me and I suspect a lot of you reading this considerably richer. If you purchased a property in the mid nineties when Blair came to power it is now probably at least doubled in value even with the effect of the past three years taken into consideration. So yes their greed created this recession but it also created a huge wealth surge for the country as a whole. I don't ally myself to anyone and change my mind on things quite often if i am wrong, I have yet to be convinced on this subject though.
-
I am just saying that the same scientists that have been telling us the we are all going to die unless we pay more tax, which is effectively the outcome of the climate change lobbyists, are now telling us that it has not got hotter in 15 years and that the global warming we are experiencing now may well have happened without our help before, which is what the sceptics have said all along. You have been conned but you cant accept it because it would make you look foolish.
-
According to one of the head ex boffin's at UEA there has been no statistical increase in temperature since 1995 and the medieval warm period may not have been localised to just the northern hemisphere but global meaning a sharp rise in temperature has been seen before where industrial pollution could not have been blamed. Maybe the sceptics may well have the last laugh as the "humans have caused climate change" brigade start to realise they have been conned.

I think its a bit like Nick Griffin and the BNP on Question Time. You have to allow idiots enough rope to hang themselves which it seems the admin did in the case of this person of many names. As for MP being a mod i for one didn't know this and feel that mods should be tagged as mods (as other forums do) so when one is having an argument or discussion with them you know that the other person has a degree of influence with admin and is therefore in a more protected position than you. Who else are mods?

oops sorry about the lack of spoiler warning. Im not sure if i would like to re read The Road though. One author I have re read many times is Kinky Friedman, but every time I mention him to anybody no ones heard of him, any one here heard of him? Very off beat funny crime writer based in New York and Texas.
-
I read The Road a few months ago and as a father with a son of similar age as the boy in the book it certainly pulled quite a few heart strings for me. A dark book no doubt but at the end of it I felt strangely happy and uplifted as the father had achieved his goal of making his son safe. I felt he was trying to show what humans are capable of if pushed to the extreme, totally compelling reading which i could not put down until finished.

In 2004 1.4 million children were in extreme poverty in the UK by 2009 1.7 million children are in extreme poverty in the UK as reported by Save the children this week. During this time the government and the policticians from ALL the partys were helping themselves to public money with free abandon because it was within the rules they had set, whilst another 300,000 children slipped down into extreme poverty, what scum. What does this say about the present Government? Should the Government do anything about it? It tells me that they could not give a shlt about any one other than themselves, it also makes me angry and very upset that this can be allowed to happen in Britain in 2010. We have our politicians telling us and the world how great they are and how they will make everything so much better, if you would just vote for them. I despair!

Parliamentary constituency - changes to boundary
vinceayre replied to louisiana's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You actually want reduced majority's if possible because if you win by say a 10,000 majority you are effectively wasting 9,000 votes that could be used to help win another seat nearby. This is why the marginal constituency is so important in this election. The boundaries are set-up at the moment to favour Labour so i wouldn't worry too much ratty. -

Im afraid sarcasm is a bit beyond some of the intelegencia on here SteveT, they are so full of righteous indignation and an infallible self belief in their intellectual superiority that they cant tell when some ones is taking the proverbial. -
I have had 25 years of petty theft normally from the tills but also sometimes from the staff bags ( which also normally ends up in a fight) and now have found the only sure way to deal with it is to sack the last person employed and keep sacking until it stops. Times are hard tell them you cant afford them any longer. If you pussy foot around they will steal you out of house and home. I know its a horrid thing to have to do but if you don't it will get worse. The thief isn't going to all of a sudden think "you know what this is wrong im going to stop" Twenty five years ago i used to get upset about it, now its just what happens sometimes and needs to be dealt with quickly and hard.

The Met Office has now admitted to BBC News that its annual global mean forecast predicted temperatures higher than actual temperatures for nine years out of the last 10. The govenment has asked the Met Office not to recheck its historical data in case it gives the climate sceptics a reason to doubt even more. The Met office are now checking historical data which will take two years to finish, I would not be surprised if it shows that climate change is not such an immediate threat as previously thought. This is in conjunction with the statement put forward by the UN that the Hymilayan?? Glaciers are not going to melt by 2035 as previously stated as a fact but was in fact based on a five minute telephone conversation with an Indian Professor. I think climate change is becoming so Political and financially motivated now that there can be no dissent or it will all come tumbling down. It is in too many people interest for it to be true and any question of it being wrong cannot and will not be tolerated. Once you cant question something without being labled a fool I feel obliged to believe the opposite.

ooh I wouldn't have said that Magpie, you will be denounced as a Islamaphobe, racist and may even be called a white prick by certain sections of the forum, don't you know to hold this view is simply not allowed and is probably in contravention of the human rights of these mentally ill, and therefore totally without blame, wannabe terrorists. And apparently according to some forumites they only get tuppence a week in benefits anyway, not that they would know how to screw the system, they are upstanding members of our community after all. Rather like those nice young men wrongly convicted of calling our soldiers murderers rapists and baby killers they are all on benefits as well, and so they should be, poor dears life must be so hard for them hating the country you live in, maybe we could all club together and give them the air fair to a nice free state like Iran perhaps where they can slag of the government and rulers to their hearts content, that is until they are hung of course.
