...this Sunday sees the first Dream Machine record fair take place at our new home, THE HALF MOON, HERNE HILL. As some of you know, I do the music bookings for the venue, so it makes absolutely perfect sense for us to switch the record shop from under a cafe to inside a pub. Can it really get any better ? ( and before you ask, yes they do do food and yes the game will be on the telly ). So, music, film, beer, food, football ( if you want it ). KICK OFF : NOON RECORD FAIR : NOON - 10PM FILM SCREENING : 4PM - 6PM LIVE MUSIC : 8PM - 10PM Times are rough ( as always ). FILM SCREENING - There's a choice of two films at the moment, I'll probably make a decision by Sunday morning, the choices are " HAROLD & MAUDE " or " FESTIVAL EXPRESS ". Both are superb. MUSIC - We are extremely proud to present to you a special appearance from none other that LORD LUCAN. ( We shit you not ). LORD LUCAN are one of the most exciting bands we've seen and heard in a long, long time. ENTRY PRICES ARE AS FOLLOWS : RECORD FAIR ONLY : ?2.00 RECORD FAIR + FILM : ?3.00 RECORD FAIR + FILM + MUSIC : ?5.00 See you on Sunday. Kids welcome. TDM xxx

That's why we're moving. Hopefully see you all on SUNDAY 5TH APRIL over at THE HALF MOON. We will have a record fair all day ( hopefully with some new stock which we could never afford to buy because all the money went on the rent ). We will have a special screening of a music documentary ( I've got something very special lined up ). We will have a band ( or two ) playing in the evening. Full details will be announced very soon. Thank you to everyone for all the support you've shown. See you on SUNDAY 5TH APRIL ( kids welcome ). Onwards and upwards. Love THE DREAM MACHINE xxx -
Saturday is going to be our last day on Lordship Lane as we're moving The Dream Machine to The Half Moon in Herne Hill. Starting on Sunday 5th April, it's going to become, for the time being, a monthly (or twice monthly) record fair/residency. With a screening of a music film, plus a special gig in the evening, and the usual sociable gathering of like-minded souls playing records etc, we will be at The Half Moon for the immediate future and then given time, will become a more permanent fixture in the venue. We're really excited. At least all our licences will be covered.. Thank you for all your enthusiasm and support for us and for music down at the shop. It's been a lot of fun. Thanks especially to all those who've played for us including: Alan King Ain Je Suis Animal Martin Carr The Light Shines Tom Wright Out Of The Afternoon Gordon Gano?s Army Humousexual Joe Woolley Neil (Eat Lights Become Lights)/Roger (The Early Years) Eat Lights Become Lights The Quarter After The Asteroid No 4 Jasmine The Astreus Trio Ivan Ink + Pen Nathan Octavia Mathew Sawyer Steve Spitfire Club Paranoia (several brilliant bands and poetry) Lucy-Jane Lizzie Jessica Spencer Burning Zoo Fractured Waves Bo Ningen Cellar Door Sound Three Trapped Tigers Will Carruthers (from Free Love Babies/Spacemen 3) The Bum Notes The Blitz Spirit The Durrell Family The Television Personalities Sad Day For Puppets Pony Unique The Trophy Hearts Filthy Boy Ross?n?Rol Six Toes Pat Fish (aka The Jazz Butcher) Hopefully see you at The Dream Machine over the next couple of days, and at The Half Moon next month. Lots of love TDM (Elaine, John and Bertie) xox

Richer Sounds shop on Lordship Lane
TheDreamMachine replied to foxyarchie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Dulwich Hi-Fi Station is at No 11 Lordship Lane, near the EDT. It's got loads of hi-fi equipment (naturally), and a helpful knowledgeable owner. We bought a difficult-to-find stylus from him only the other day, and he was happy to let me take it away without paying, to see if it fitted, and said just drop the money in later or the next day. I've nothing against Richer Sounds at all, but we already have an independent Hi-Fi store that could do with our support. Why not try popping in there, it's what community is about, no? Cheers, Elaine. -
Dear All Thank you for all your support last week. It was amazing to see everyone pull together and help keep THE DREAM MACHINE going. We managed to make the rent which was great. A number of you became " DREAMERS ". Which is fantastic. Hopefully we can now build on this and all work on ideas to help keep the shop open. More bands are signing up for rehearsals which is great and we're booking more people to come and play sets in the shop. And following the article that appeared in the SLP we've had people popping into the shop this weekend from far and wide. Well, Brixton and Lewisham, but you get the idea. So, thank you to everyone for rallying round. Please do pop down and say hello. Onwards and upwards. Love THE DREAM MACHINE www.dreammachinerecords.co.uk

A big thank you to Nygel and Sue from THE GOOSE IS OUT who popped into the shop and made generous donations to the cause. They have been massive supporters of the shop since it started and we are glad to have them onboard as fellow DREAMERS. Love THE DREAM MACHINE

Dear All We would just like to say a massive than you to John and Chener Books for making a generous donation to The Dream Machine. Chener Books is a wonderful place and an inspiration for The Dream Machine. We hope we can stay in business as long as they have. To have their support means a lot to us. Thank you John and Chener Books. Yours THE DREAM MACHINE

Greetings. We now have a way of paying donations over the internet should you wish to. Thanks to our friend Malcolm, we have a website!! Crikey. It's called www.dreammachinerecords.co.uk It's just a baby website at the moment but it will grow. On it is a link to paypal. I think paypal takes a 7% ish cut of anything that goes through it, but as people were asking for an easy method of donation, this is it for now until a bank account can be sorted. Thanks so much to those who've popped down to see us over the last day or so. Most heart warming. As somebody pointed out, if the 750 people plus who've been interested enough to read about what's happening to The Dream Machine all put in ?1 a month, we'd be there! And we'd have a fantastic music space for the community, of the community and by the community. LIVE MUSIC TONIGHT From Paola who describes his sound as philosphy-packed hip-hop based, fake-west African music Sounds interesting! ?2 donation on the door for those who can afford it. Music will begin around about 8pm Elaine x

Going about it.. Well I'm optimistically opening a bank account (an extra one to my own) in the name of The Dream Machine, or a Post Office account in the meantime if any Dreamers want to drop in to the shop, clearly we can start going immediately. Obviously we'll be taking details of anyone contributing, and if it doesn't happen in time to keep us open for another month we'll return all with much thanks. Thank you Sue, and anyone else who has embraced this in an instant. See you over the weekend Elaine xx

Dear Charlie, thanks for your kind words. As you probably know, the shop has never been profit-motivated but we had hoped it might be able to pay its own rent. Musicians can use it as a rehearsal space in the evenings for ?10 an hour (when we're not open ourselves obviously). If we were able to do that consistently for three nights a week every week, that would help substantially, but it's tended to be more like an evening here and there (all of which has been helpful but not enough). We're closed on a Monday and Tuesday so the space would be available for quiet activity up until 5pm but so far no takers. We have donations on the door for our musical evenings, which we normally share with the bands. The three of us down there, John, Bertie and myself give our time free because we have a strong belief in the idea behind The Dream Machine, and of course we love music and what it can do for people and community but that doesn't pay the rent. So there you go, if we're going to keep going right now we need help. But as John says in his original post if we can't keep going, The Dream Machine will still happen but not as it is, and not in the heart of Lordship Lane. So far it's been a great and wonderful experiment and hopefully will continue to be so.. Elaine (The Dream Machine) x
