  1. Our son went through the same thing around the same age. Under duress he would get in the bath and then stand up and wouldn't sit and hated water on him. Our break through was when we had baths less often (there's no reason why they need one a day) and made it into more of a special occassion. So we have them in the afternoon, we spend quite a long time in the bath and we have bubbles, sometimes music playing on the radio and toys and it's now a lot of fun and he actually asks for baths. Good luck!
  2. With baby 1 I found that Davina DVDs were my salvation - they really are good and I love the fact that she quite openly admits that she put on 4 stone with each of her 3 children. This one in particular I thought was good http://www.amazon.co.uk/Davina-Super-Body-Workout-DVD/dp/B001F3QJIS/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1326816966&sr=8-6 Regarding food, its a constant battle of willpower - I just can't have chocolate, biscuits etc in the house or i eat them all. So we've had to change our shopping habits - having healthy stuff to pick at helps, whether its things like almonds or pomegranite seeds etc. It's dull, but stepping on the scales once a week and seeing weight go down is such an amazing feeling.
  3. You're never going to please everyone that's for sure, but from my gang of local mums (with kids under 24 months) they all seem to nap around 1-3pm. Good luck!
  4. I'd really like to try and make my little one's bedroom a nicer place for him but I don't really know where to start. I guess thinking about colours, furniture that's needed etc. I was wondering whether there are any websites that help with creative ideas for stuff like this or whether anyone has created something nice for their toddler and could pass along some pointers? Thank you!
  5. It's the worst isn't it - newborns who already don't sleep brilliantly and then add in winter colds and sniffles and then they sleep even worse :-( We had the same as you last night Otta and our little one is only 6 weeks so too little I think for cough medicine or baby vicks etc. Ho hum. It will all pass I know......
  6. We tried to save money on the footmuff and got a cheaper version that never fitted properly. In hindsight I would have just shelled out the ???. They're not cheap but it is something that you use a couple of times, every single days so I guess if you do a "cost per use" it all works out!
  7. Prickle, being a new parent so new to all this - it sounds like you and Ofsted were in agreement about DKH that it needs to be better about challenging more academically able pupils? This shouldn't be something that you should have to fight for surely. But it may be that I am way out of touch, I left my (state) school many many years ago.
  8. @Yak, No cheese, chocolate or ice cream?? Yikes. Added to that, no milk or coffee too - horrendous. But it must be better than horrendously broken nights sleep! Maybe worth giving a try and seeing what happens to the nights?
  9. Thanks for sharing this. Interesting to see the Higher Level Pupils figure pulled out too. When you look at this metric St Anthony's for example does better than Dulwich Hamlet.
  10. crystal7, I totally feel your pain. We have a 6 week old and a 21 month old and are going through the same as you. It's hideous but I just keep telling myself that it is, like everything, just a phase. That said, I am thinking of maybe trying to cut out caffeine in case that is making the night issue worse. Friends say that drinking fennel tea is good, better than tea and coffee! I think that the other useful thing that I have been told, is to try not to compare baby 1 with baby 2 as they will always do things differently and at different times. Good luck (for the both of us) x
  11. both of mine had the same bubble-like blisters on their lips. HV said that it was very common for BF babies to have these and totally nothing to worry about.
  12. Love this thread! Have you named the little one yet? We have two boys - Felix Louis Arthur and Eugene Hector. We wanted something slightly different but not too out there. But all of them work with your surname :-) Good luck x
  13. His sleep patterns sound fairly similar to our little boy - we ended up moving his bedtime back to 7.30pm and that seemed to solve any sleep issues that we had. I tend to think that if he is sleeping for 2 hours during the day then go with that - his body probably needs it and it gives you a great break too. Good luck!
  14. Just re-read your post, I thought you were talking about Rosendale. Sorry!
  15. In terms of academic attainment they do v well. This is 2010 SATs results http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/table/2010/dec/13/primary-school-league-tables-lambeth
  16. Think that there is a Ruskin Park one o clock club on a Thursday (1-4pm)
  17. I would second the poster who recommended the forums on the website Fertility Friends http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php Hugely helpful to me a few years ago when we were having similar fertility issues and meeting similar sounding type medical specialists. In the end they found out that I had a quite huge fibroid that was preventing us from conceiving, but it took a long long time before I was given an ultra sound scan that basically found it. Once that was removed we conceived straight away and are expecting baby 2 next week. I had never heard of fibroids before, but that might be something that your friend might ask her consultant about. Good luck, there can be happy endings to fertility issues!
  18. South London Dance Centre in Herne Hill is a really popular options with a lot of families that we know and have more interesting classes from the sound of it http://southlondondancestudios.co.uk/
  19. Like everyone have done my homework online about buggy options (we need a double) but wanted to test some of them in real-life. Any suggestions of a good, local-ish shop where they are likely to have a decent range that I could have a push about of? Thx!
  20. There's Bea's Bop on a Friday at the Soup Dragon on Lordship Lane - lovely class full of music and songs.
  21. One day too late, but we did soft play at the Brixton Rec which worked for our little boy who is the same age as yours!
  22. We've been invited to a couple of halloween parties this weekend, so I would assume that there's likely to be trick or treating spread over the weekend and Monday.
  23. The 1 o clock club on Peckham Rye open from 10.30am-4pm daily during summer holidays. Fun for toddlers
  24. Four friends have all moved their children there and think that the place is totally fantastic. They have nothing but praise for it.
  25. I asked the ladies who run the club. They say that the new outdoor playground area (complete with water for kids to play in) will be open in October. It is nothing to do with the 1 o clock club. They did not mention anything about the actual 1 o clock club being closed down.
