  1. There's a lovely Stay and Play not far from you in Jessops Children Centre, 10am - 11.30am
  2. we think that the bee is fabulous - in my opinion the best city stroller, so light and narrow, fitting brilliantly on all public transport. when i am on the bus with ours and see others struggling with wider, heavier prams i am really glad that we went for a bee.
  3. Agree with everyone on here about safety being a priority - another option though, as it seems like the distance is really not that far, is a bike. I am always amazed how everywhere in ED is pretty much a 5 min cycle away.
  4. This is such a brilliant little expedition that's local and costs ?1 (love that!) http://www.travelbpmr.com/ Just spent a very happy morning with two young sons riding the train and watching others on it. The guys who run it have taken so much trouble to get all the little details right, including little tickets that get punched by the train conductor. Every Sunday between 11am and 4pm when the weather is good. Wanted to pass along a top tip :)
  5. another vote for Laura Mercier tinted moistuiser and her pressed powder bronzer rocks - both been life savers esp in the early months when you kind of look lie death warmed up, at least i did!
  6. Arundel is a great castle and fabulous walks by the river, nice kid friendly lunch pubs too :)
  7. Does anyone know if this group is happening this week?
  8. You can order free cycle maps from TFL https://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/cycling/11682.aspx They are brilliant - showing all the best routes etc. Hugely helpful!
  9. Love the site - fab looking stuff! Great tip, thanks!
  10. ALso you could try the founder of JoJo Maman Bebe who is a local-ish mum, Clapham I think http://www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/pu+jojo-maman-bebe+Our-Story+1
  11. I would ask Gaby Hinsliff (ex political editor of Observer), got a book out on modern parenting and finding wrk-life harmony. The book is called Half a Husband and a really interesting read http://www.amazon.co.uk/Half-Wife-Working-Familys-Getting/dp/product-description/0701185988 She is on Twitter and seems to respond to people's questions etc Also meant to be a great public speaker
  12. I know that the advice in this country is stop bottles at a year but advice in France and other mainland European countries is 2 years (husband is French) so I would just say, not so urgent that your little one stops straight away.
  13. Just wanted to pass along a huge recommendation - Mo is a local dad and brilliant decorater. Worked around our young baby and toddler with huge thoughtfulness and then when toddler proceeded to rip a section of his new wallpaper off his bedroom wall after the job had been finished and paid for, Mo came back on a Sunday and re-papered for free. Very nice guy and excellent painter. Big thumbs up! His mobile is 07958 020 745
  14. Great suggestions and exactly the kind of recipes I was hoping for. I often do River Cottage "veg patch" where you add courgette, parsnip or pumpkin. They are fab and vaguely healthy to my way of thinking :)) http://www.rivercottage.net/recipes/veg-patch-gnome-cakes/
  15. Our little boy is 2 this week and whilst I am getting a proper cake for his party, my parents are coming down for birthday tea on his actual birthday. I want to make a nice cake but maybe one that is vaguely healthy. Any tips fron you guys of cakes like this that you cook for your kids? Thank you!
  16. Regardless of what you think of Toby Young he is supposed to have written a great guide to setting up a Free School http://www.amazon.co.uk/Free-School-Penguin-Shorts-ebook/dp/B0069YVXA2 published by Penguin (re, helping: we have just moved to Herne Hill and have the same primary school issues there, so may have to start a thread on the Herne Hill Forum)
  17. When my son was 9 months he loved Bea Bop (in fact aged 23 months, he still does)
  18. http://www.edtots.co.uk/ Really useful resource that i am sure that you probably know about
  19. I know that there's a good baby sensory class in Forest Hill (listed on Edtots.com) but I just wondered whether anyone knew of any others maybe closer to Dulwich Village/Herne Hill area? Thanks!
  20. might be further away than you need, but corpus christi is on the brixton side of brockwell park. its meant to be excellent.
  21. We moved recently (not because of the planes), close by to Herne Hill and it is noticably quiter in the mornings. Saying that, I think that the road that we lived on in ED was directly under a flight path and it drove me crazy when I had a young baby to look after.
  22. We're looking at the baby classes in Herne Hill. They sound great http://www.babyswimming.co.uk/
  23. If you ever want a French speaking au pair or nanny Ici Londres seems to be the best website for that. That's where we found our lovely nanny. http://www.ici-londres.com/Les-petites-annonces,6117.media
  24. Our 23 m old suddenly today started climbing in and out of his cot bed. So we've taken his bed apart and he is on a mattress on his floor (long story, but short story is we couldn't work out how to turn it into a bed) As I type I can hear him banging at the stair gate at his door shouting "mummy, mummy, mummy." Any tips on what the **** I should do to try and get him to sleep?? I tried lying next to him and pretending to sleep but he just thought that it was very very funny. Damn
