Re: Yoobi and Tommi Burger on Deliveroo... It would appear that Deliveroo themselves are taking on commercial properties and building out kitchens (i.e. the space they have off Melbourne Grove). They are then subleasing these to restaurants they have on their books to test the water in areas they can't service.

Sue - what happened?! I just settled down to read the latest developments in the Pat and Jess breakup and it's been deleted!

police using speed radar checks on camberwell grove
sheff replied to northdulmum's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It will have been the Community Roadwatch scheme. Run by the police and TFL with local residents who have complained. 28mph+ and you will get sent a letter only reminding you of the limit. Unless you are on their system as having previous, so to speak. -
DulwichFox - I think the point Ed_Pete is accurately making is that you stated that Jamie Oliver is in effect bolstering his profits by charging more for sugary drinks. He's not... 10p is charged and 8.33p goes to charity.. The govt get the balance as VAT. You didn't mention anything about recipes of other products in your original comments. ETA - he does sell drinks with no added sugar as well..

As long as they did. And i don't doubt that they would - but you'd want that defined before voting either way. ETA - although to send to Norway you incur duty costs (or at least the end consumer should). Same in Switzerland.

Circa 4.5m imported from the EU... Mainly from Italy, Portugal, Bulgaria. All road shipments from UK logistics companies to the UK. Exports would have been ?15m back to the EU. I'm not there anymore but i'd assume the following. If we left the EU and assuming a 12.5% duty rate thats ?0.5m on import duties and ?1.8m on export duties from subsidising the EU customer. So ?2.4m of cost from nowhere. That 1.8m goes to the EU country of delivery. Given that you can eradicate the cost instantly by moving distribution to France etc you'd have a decent argument to move out of the UK. It would then add burden onto the company. You'd have to waste cash on more product to make sure that you never had stock outage in any warehouse. The knock on effects - you'd use a French or Portuguese logistics company so a hit to the UK there. - the UK would lose VAT on some of those sales to HMRC - lets call that ?3m quid. Its not that simple because of distance selling but roughly. - You'd lose jobs at the distribution center in the UK - You'd move some of the customer service function to the EU to be near product returns. - You'd have to make profits in EU for tax reasons so you'd pay that there. - you'd also ship 70% of product from China to the EU warehouse so UK HMRC would lose that money as well. More millions. So all those costs add up and impact on the company and the UK from tax, employment etc.

I think it's fanciful to believe that only 200k jobs would be at risk. The vast majority of GDP is from SMEs. SMEs historically trade at a net surplus for exports. They are large employers. The company I used to run imported circa 15m from Chima and Europe every year. Lots from Italy and Germany. We then exported 70% of all our sales outside the UK. 30% back to EU. The distribution centre we ran just outside Birmingham employed lots of people. Leaving the EU would mean all the goods imported from the EU would attract duty at border, unless a convoluted bonded warehouse could be set up. Youd then pay duty to export to the EU again (it was a luxury brand so we cover it for the consumer). There is no doubt 70% of that distribution centre would be moved to a facility on the outskirts of A major French or German city. It would cut dead money out of the supply chain. All that UK derived taxable profit flowing to the EU

I owned one similar to the Silvester roads one, and my now wife lived in the one next door! So, sharing a hallway is not such a bad thing :-) For a while it was like having one big house with the doors open. Anyway - both were differently configured - and hers had the loft done by the people we sold it to. The staircase naturally returns on itself but you can still retain the window on the staircase for light. The smaller 2nd bedroom usually then becomes a fairly large bathroom. And - you can get 2 fairly decent bedrooms in the loft - certainly for children. If you can stretch to it then the full width extension is always a bonus. Mine had a larger extension width wise) and that made a huge difference to the kitchen feel. My wife's was still on the original outbuildings foot print. The killer was the staircase when the loft was done because usually on a half house the staircase is open straight onto the downstairs rooms. So you end up having to create a fireproof core landing or put in a sprinkler (which is what our neighbours did). ETA - the key is removing any chimney breasts. Certainly the ones that are in the rooms furthest from the road. If you keep the bathroom on the ground floor then the smaller room can at a push be a small single, again more for children. Then you have the option of an en-suite larger room in the loft.

Does he ride? Joining a cycle club like Dulwich Paragon may be an option.. I've not ridden with them myself but often come across them when out. There will be a mixture of ages, and abilities. And, on a bike you can say as little or as much as you like! There will always be a cycling club at uni as well if he goes back which would be a bonus.

Louisa - Interesting research from Exeter University on Oysters... The same department also did a survey that found; "The chemical profiles of people from lower socioeconomic status are completely different. Their bodies are full of lead, cadmium and different types of plastics. These chemicals could come from cigarette smoke but likely come from poor diet" The toffs were full of chemicals from shellfish and sunscreen. So essentially. Poor People - Smoke, eat sh1t and plastic - maybe they don't know that you have to take the wrapping off ready meals?. Rich People - Eat shell fish and try not to get skin cancer. Or maybe they eat sunscreen? Who knows...

I'm still struggling to find a pub in London that plays Aunt Sally. Seriously, its the pub game of all pub games. You can while away many a sunny evening throwing sticks at her...

As it happens I've just seen someone get hit side on in there car attempting to pull out from that junction. This lunchtime.

I'm not sure there are many, if any employers who pay for paternity over and above the government set amounts. I'm taking holiday for mine, and i did last time.

Agreed, it's a fair few idiots that so those speeds though. I live opposite the bus stop near underhill road and the overtaking there is often ridiculous. I don't think people even check sometimes. My main annoyance is buses, like I said, using Strava I've tracked them doing a new record of 39mph. Go-Ahead ignored my complaint and TFL are still silent. If anyone who isn't on Robins email want to PM me to see if we can coordinate a Speedwatch day with the police then please do.

Sent you a PM with details... Thanks! The Met officer I spoke to was Mason-Moore lynsey J - Roads and Transport Policing Command

Thanks INtexas.. I remember seeing that post so will contact them. I'd already spoken to TFL and the police scheme people so will see what they plan. I think speeds may have dropped slightly but I guess it's still excessive at some times. As a random sample I tracked buses to and from Peckham rye for the last week on Strava! See Victor Meldrew! Not once were they under 20mph and in fact all topped almost 30, and one at 36. And that's in rush hour. I need to find a hobby!!

Are there any other people living in and around Barry Road that find the speeding cars, buses, lorries a bit frustrating? Although it's an issue elsewhere. People still don't stick to the old 30mph limit! Cars overtake buses at speed. Getting kids out of a car is an absolute nightmare. I'm not sure what can be done, or, whether I'm turning into Victor Meldrew NIMBY...

I get pretty good speeds, usually circa 25-30mb. The router is definitely better than previous ones i've had. Longer reach for wireless. Pretty sure the bus stop opposite is a good BT Wifi zone! That said, it's been a bit poor connection wise recently. I think even if you get Infinity you'll most likely still be on Copper to your house, pretty sure we are as it runs from our neighbours house over our side alley into ours. So i think we are fibre to the cabinet rather than fibre to the home.

Errrr....?? Robbin - the OP didn't allude to all the ins and outs. It's not just inconvenient in some cases, it can have a huge impact. Imagine someone cleared ?1k out of your account. Until its replaced you can't spend money because you have no cash. On top of that, imagine you have no cash and all your bills and mortgage bounce. Its not your fault but try telling that to anyone when you have to explain credit flags on your history and you look like you bounce payments.

EMC - you are right. They do ask, and they won't allow you to do it with just a bank card. They blocked a large withdrawal once unless a friend gave a reason (he was paying a builder). But for small transactions you must show ID. This is from the 2012 T&C's... I would imagine they are investigating some form of internal collusion hence denying it.... 18.6. For withdrawals over the counter at branches, you must provide an item of identification acceptable to us, and the cheque book or withdrawal book for the account (if you have been issued with one). You cannot use your debit card alone to make withdrawals over our counters

Possibly the latter... No idea why it's on a house... "The first documented evidence of Dulwich is as a hamlet outside London in 967AD, granted by King Edgar to one of his thanes Earl Aelfheah"
