  1. No, you're wrong. Nothing's sadder then standing in that queue. And I can only imagine that taking the piss out of those who do, is much more fun.

I've heard her play and it is beautiful, like cross the road and stops you in your tracks beautiful, and I'm sure she's not standing there dreaming about her gold-plated pension... heaven's above, seriously, people like @intexasatthemoment give me the creeps, it's like stepford wives up in here.
  3. Get back to your local independent you absolute backstabbers #ShopLocal my arse hahahahaha!
  4. A totally cosmetic but commercially relevant point. That Jaflong signage, seriously, what were they thinking? Being a complete snob aside, what a waste of a golden opportunity to make the business relevant and catapult it into the 21st century from the get go. With something like 76% of consumers saying they enter a business they've never visited before based simply on signage. If i'd wanted to make a proper go of it and capture passing trade, I'd have gone all hipster on their arses, inspiring an "oooooh, let's try that" instead of an "oh look another generic indian restaurant." It's not like there isn't a plethora of good examples in the area to take note of.... That aside, good luck to them

Yeah Abe, it had nothing to do with that and it didn't go out of business. Talk about how to spread gossip you have no idea about.

  7. Someone left some hardly used converse trainers by a wheelie bin in my size once, I was grateful for them and still wear them today. Why you bothered so much if you'd chuck them out? aside from the fact that granted it's socially a bit rude, but just wondering. surely better than land fill? I think you did the right thing, asked and he showed you what he took. Case closed. If he were sifting through my blue bin, as you say, I'd be more concerned.
  8. Hardly daylight robbery Louia, milk is underpriced. As dirac says, almost all inscrutable supermarkets use the price of milk as a loss leader to the detriment of Britain's farmers and small independent retailers - we should all be paying more for it!
  9. Trouble is I still don't care, precedent or not. I'm trying to care honest I am. But I have to agree with Cedges - move on, there has to be more important things that actually matter surely, if there isn't, how privileged are we!?
  10. Burbage Wrote: > > I'm sure they'd be delighted that we're so > interested in their work, and be eager to > explain. I still can't believe that anyone is. In fact, I can't actually believe this conversation is still going on and we haven't got anything better to do (myself included).... (yawn)
  11. numbers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Half the time you're just paying for the trendy label & the > fact it's "locally sourced". EXACTLY, and we love it! Welcome to the new world baby who gives a shit what it tastes like, that's my Christmas presents done dusted right there.
  12. Just to even it up a little, our bin guys on crystal palace Road are marvellous, I never know when it's supposed to be emptied and I never have to put it out, they slide back my courtyard gate and remove it from the bin shed, empty it and put back without me moving a finger. It's like the angels have been (if you'll pardon the pun). Possibly the crates of beer I leave them each each Christmas..... Hope you get it sorted.
  13. I also think it's fine, plus it helps direct people too. Jeez louise, you're getting a wee bit Victor Meldrew these days ain't you mister Barber? Live a little, go have a drink.

  15. I think it's beautiful; nowt "shit-heap" about it if the mockups are anything to go by. It's sounding like a bunch of typically boring old moany fuddy duddys in here/ Live a little I say. I love a useless vanity project. It looks fun. ....Then again I'd wouldn't say no to extending the bakerloo line to Camberwell as an alternative.
  16. Yeah whatever you do, avoid Dulwich Medical Centre, I moved their from a practice in the middle of Elephant & Castle Aylesbury Estate - worst mistake I ever made. Just don't get sick and you'll fine....
  17. I remember taking this picture outside the shop one day, always made me giggle... Only in East Dulwich would a 'charity shop' be terribly sorry to only be able to accept designer labels.
  18. ....on a side note, just checked out the QuestionAir men's clothing page and nearly fell asleep. Nice to see we're still opting for bland attire in East Dulwich. Should sit quite nicely alongside the White Stuff.
  19. Exactly. I can't believe this thread is still going, however, I'll add to it's already abundant length by adding (again) that whatever the anger of a few individuals is, working for marketing week magazine I have seen so many studies that show NOT having wifi is far more financially detrimental to small businesses like cafes and coffee shops than having it ever will be. So suck it up, either ask to join a table with a spare seat or go somewhere else.
  20. Myself and my fella would be interested too! I loved how organised our local Southwark waste and recycling service centre is, surprisingly interesting place, looks like something out of star trek. > > > > Would anyone be interested if I organised a > group > > visit from East Dulwich residents? > > > I'd be interested!
  21. I enjoyed it too, was tapping my feet along with it.
  22. I'm pretty sure it says above that you can.
  23. James barber - when the time comes, can you let us know if there's anything we can do to house some in the East Dulwich area, I hear in Germany they've organised some kind of airbnb type thing and I have a spare room.

You know what's frustrating? Some people have been banging on about the Syrian refugee crisis to anyone who would listen for months and months now - to the annoyance I'm sure of my Facebook friends - very few friends or family would take notice, and even then there was a steady stream of people turning their heads and saying it's none of our business, so if it took a few photo journalists (reporters not paparazzi) to peddle a photo that shocks people into sobriety, so be it. I don't care. 'Tragi-snaps'??!! Seriously, you SHOULD feel sick, because it is sick. Feel sick some more, it might help your grow some empathy. As for Cameron, I feel like it's better late than never, so I'm not going to start slamming him now. In some sense it gives me hope that when we the general public speak up in numbers, they have to listen, whether they have a heart or not. I don't see him backing down as such, I see him as taking the measure of what the general public want and then amending it when that changes. I always thought that was the job of the people we elect.
  25. To be honest I don't really care what the French do, I'm not French; or what the Arabs have done or not doing, it doesn't even come close to absolving us, we are responsible for what we do and our decisions, our policies, our need to address the fact much of the problem was made by our govt in the first place - so in that respect there are no buts. And Righty you have no idea if they "shoved their children on an inflatable boat", that's just unnecessarily inflammatory language. Anyway, the original subject of this thread was about simply donating what we can on the 4th September, which will probably cost you nothing.
