  1. if by pathetic you mean "miserably inadequate" I'd have to agree with @alex_b.
  2. You know what? Sods law - When I first started this thread, I had merely thanked Helen for listening to her constituents. Then recognising it's not just about that, I specifically went back and added the conscience bit because (as is written), it is both. Not in terms of morality as such, but in terms of having the courage to resist populism and to vote against something which in all conscience they believe will harm their constituents. Nothing 'wishy-washy' about that. Either way someone on the forum would've split hairs, because that's what people do on here.
  3. Big thank you to Helen Hayes MP for Dulwich & West Norwood, one of only 47 Labour MP's to defy the three line whip and vote her conscience. Thank you for having the guts, and thanks for listening to us. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-38835101
  4. About time someone opened a decent menswear shop, hopefully it won't just cater for the typical stuffy middle class, middle-aged MOR blandness that so captivates the area, I practically fall asleep when I walk past white stuff and ed.

Not at all sure how you derive that, from that. 😳
  6. Agreed, not using your mobile phone in public seriously cannot be the answer, it's a mobile!
  7. Ha! You're NEVER wrong to like what you like, but they are hard in the middle, and a hard scotch egg with greying discolouration does not a correct scotch egg make :) Try one from Rosie's cafe 28 Peckham Rye, and you'll never look back :)
  8. They have been a God send for our small business, in fact i wrote a short blog about them... http://blog.wbc.co.uk/2012/06/finding-the-right-bank-for-your-small-business/ and a number of our staff now have mortgages with them. I like their principles, for example in terms of supporting businesses they work on what they call the ?church spire? principle. The metaphorical principle that believes you need to be able to see your customers from the church spire, meaning they need to be local businesses. Music to our ears and much more personal relationship with the branch manager.
  9. Hopefully it will make the market better than it is already (it can't get any worse), in comparison to most in the area - brockley, crystal palace, herne hill etc it's an embarrassment especially the food offering, extending it to more of the same would be a travesty. Don't even get me started on those breakfast burritos and scotch eggs *hangs head in shame*
  10. Have to say I always end up at the Cheese Block once a year at Christmas, and always regret doing so due to their sour, moody, rude and generally unwelcoming disposition. But hey, the cheese is good... this year I've ordered from Dukeshill and they're still taking orders up until 20th Dec, and if it's good enough for the Queen...
  11. This will probably get lounged, but I spotted this in the morning press today - Organic Kitchen in Essex bans children under five from entering the building because its owner said 'prams the size of Essex' are spoiling it for other customers. All I could think about was could East Dulwich do with a child free zone too? 😜 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4036742/Organic-cafe-bans-children-five-prams-size-Essex-youngsters-running-riot-spoil-customers.html P.S apologies for citing the daily fail, it's in all the press today but their pictures were better :)
  12. I feel duty bound to post a photographic example of one of the beauties in question... and that's not even the best one! But alas, thanks for all the comments, I've decided to settle for a ?12 one from the Christmas Forest Dulwich, they plant a tree in Africa for every tree you buy (apparently) - seems a bit more sensible. Happy Christmas neighbourly people.
  13. Stop watching it, take back your dignity!

HAHAHHAAH bawdy-nan I love you. I'd buy your cheerfulness for ?60 hands down!
  15. ok, while we're on the subject, can people please pull away a bit faster when it turns green - jeez louise, world wars have been fought in less time.
  16. ...that's the price of them in the Fresh Flower Company on Northcross Road, and they are STUNNINGLY beautiful, so I've contemplated buying one and despite being able to afford it, it's a ?65 wreath I'll chuck away in a couple weeks!!! But they're soooooo pretty. Can anyone else out there make me feel better about buying one? Tell me it's perfectly normal....

OMG???? Seriously? Do you live in your own cul-de-sac that only you drive around??? Can I join you?
  19. Do you know what, this probably won't be very popular but am I the only one SICK and TIRED of people (mainly mum's but dad's included) taking their little johnny to school and driving as slow as humanly possible, hogging the road like they're the only ones on it, or double parking in literally the most insane places to let their children out - you might have ALL the time in the bloody world, but some of us are trying to get to work! Where is your sense of urgency? has everyone retired already? If you want to move that slow - WALK or move to the country! Because regardless of the 20mph speed limit, it's the twats driving under it that send people into road rage and the only way to get around is to literally drive around them. 20 MPH is ridiculous but it's the law I agree, but underperforming drivers are not helping.
  20. Highly recommend Oasis Church Waterloo, http://www.oasiswaterloo.org/church great social action program in the community; spearheading London's safe house for the government's child refugee program, very politically minded AND more importantly (for me and my husband) completely GAY FRIENDLY and non judgemental - now there's a first. Actually the one time we visited St John the Evangelist on Goose Green, I felt the same could be said.
  21. Bunmi Aboaba to be precise and I concur, I've been seeing her for nearly 10 years now and she's fantastic. They don't seem to have a dedicated hygienist though and I'm obsessed with my teeth so I only use her for check ups and any dental work, and I go to Clapham South Dentist for a deep clean. Also, I went private when I had to have a root canal done, i would never use the NHS for complicated root canals, even Bunmi referred me elsewhere!
  22. Totally agree, if you're lazy enough to dump your crap outside on the pavement, I reckon it's fair game, and if she needs it, why not? What do you care? Clearly not enough to drop it off at the correct times. Also I have to say I gave her money at the weekend, I was in a foul mood until I walked past, I thought her music was lovely!
  23. Damned if I know, any ideas? could chain ourselves naked to the drain pipe in protest, although that would probably just attract more people ;) I feel sorry for Nina next door with the whiff of cheap salami wafting through the window
  24. How embarrassing, but I knew this would happen. Just you watch it'll be chain central by next year unless we grow the balls to stop it. Cafe Nero, Marks, Subway, what next Maccy D's. Total bloody nightmare, if I wanted a bloody subway on my doorstep i'd move to lewisham.
  25. I highly recommend Todd at The Spaghetti Agency http://www.spaghettiagency.co.uk/training-and-speaking he's based near birmingham but has done one day seminars here in london - Herne Hill to be precise. Contact him or send him a tweet at and he'll get back to you. Tell him Bobby sent you. Also sign up to his blog, most of what you need to know for social media for business you'll probably be able to read from there.
