former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
curlykaren replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi e-dealer/Mr Barber; Parking ticket says... Civil Enforcement Officer 724 who had reasonable cause to believe the following parking contravention had occurred 83F: Parked in a car park without clearly displaying a valid pay and display ticket or voucher or parking clock. 83F: The penalty Charge of ?80 must be paid before the end of the period of 28 days beginning with the date of Service of this Notice. If the Penalty Charge is paid before the end of the period of 14 days beginning with the Date of Service of the Notice, the amount of the Penalty Charge will be reduced by 50% to ?60. As I did actually have a ticket, and if I didn't this error would rob me of the opportunity of to pay the correct discounted rate, I will be challenging the fine but Mr Barber may wish to investigate if the impact of this error is widespread. Do you need any more info from me Mr Barber? Thanks, Karen. -

Hi Mr Barber, Just to inform you that Southwark Parking Enforcement are giving out parking tickets which offer a 50% discount if paid in 14 days, calculated as ?60 on an ?80 ticket. I wonder if many people have paid this in error and conversly how much revenue will be lost by these tickets being issued with such a glaring error. leaving them, rightfully, open to challenge. -
Birthday treat for ill 4 year old
curlykaren replied to AllyCat's topic in The Family Room Discussion
mini bouncy castle...you can get them small enough to fit in any room (think about the size of a paddling pool) mobile pet zoo majician a visit from a character (perhaps you could find the fat controller?) none of it very train related?? but you may decide to go another way, all the best. -
It is true that some disability benefits are related to NI contributions so it may just be a case of applying for a different benefit. For advice I would suggest, SDA (Southwark Disablement Assoc) (google for contact details), Macmillian and other cancer support charities and Citizens Advice. Your friend has my sympathy, Health related benefits are a bugger to arrange, just what you don't need when you are ill. all the best CK.

I also welcome any measure that slows traffic on that side of the common, speeding cars are a real issue along there and it can be quite nervewracking walking along with a child. However, I also drive, and the fact that the pavement has been significantly widened is not made clear to road traffic at all. I am hoping that the work is yet to be completed and there will some signs/reflector strips etc?

Yes, I do think you should have constrained yourself to private messages. Instead you instigated a public 'witch hunt' which, despite there having been a TV programme that could demonstrate, for us all how awful (or not), the workmanship was, the only proof is your say so. Very recently admin removed another thread in which you overtly and personally attacked the same person, as such your apology to admin seems a little misguided given your willingness to do the same thing again. My experiences of this person could not be further removed from the way you have portrayed her. The small amount of work she has done in my house has been satisfactory in every way and I consider myself to be very lucky to be part of the community in which she lives, where she generously and freely donates both her time and equipment to community events, just last month she organised and ran a free party for over fifty local children. On sunday afternoon, 100 yards from my front door, she intervened in a stabbing in which the victim, a 15 yr old boy, was very badly injured, performing emergency first aide while waiting for an ambulance which prevented him from drowning in his own blood from a vicious stab wound to the chest. There are two sides to every story, it might have been nice if the commentators on the other thread could have remembered that?

Perhaps Sue could post a link to the episode of 'Love the House You're In' that her house was featured on so we can judge for ourselves? As at the moment the situation is pretty much as described by the OP.

Parental disagreements; insight much appreciated.

another suggestion could be to get a babysitter in the home for the baby and take oldest to playgroup a couple of times a week? Avoids eldest child feeling further excluded by new arrival. -
Ooops, sorry x

...has started in dulwich leisure centre. Tuesdays at 10.30 am, on a drop in basis, 3-5 yr olds but the coach was flexible about lower age limit and there was a two yr old there today, (not doing much in the way of actual football but having a nice boisterous run around nonetheless). Really nice coach, Dave, who made sure the kids had loads of fun, I didn't stop laughing for the whole hour watching my son. I have some flyers for first session free if anyone wants one?

More Dogs in Peckham Rye Park
curlykaren replied to the-e-dealer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
the footballers peeing in the bushes near colyton road entrance to the park is REALLY offensive, yuck! It happens ALL the time, I won't walk over there any more on football days, creeps me right out. -
Single mum of teenage boy needs advice
curlykaren replied to hilili's topic in The Family Room Discussion
sorry, I'm puzzled, how long have they been back at school? Surely its only a few days anyway? There is a good possibility they might get bored with it pretty quickly, meanwhile have a chat with him about how these boys must be really unconfident and unsure of themselves to be behaving like this. Also, try and find out exactly how they are phrasing their insults and help him come up with some killer put-downs, being able to resolve the matter himself will boost his confidence and help him tackle this kind of behavior in the future, that said, don't leave it for too long. all the best x -

curlykaren replied to the-e-dealer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
that pic seems pretty clear, you are quite right, the dog is somewhere it shouldn't be, not quite sure why the owners would have to picnic there when there is so much other space available to them? -

the sign, no dogs, means in the oval fenced off flower beds, NOT the area in general. If you remain confused on this point it is probably best to ask one of the many gardeners? -
Petition for the convicted rioters to lose benefits
curlykaren replied to snss75's topic in The Lounge
Ridiculous petition, the criminal justice system already outlines which punishments are suitable for certain crimes. What about the individuals who aren't on benefit or in social housing? They just get punished once while the others get punished twice?? I won't be signing it.
