Dear all I am a doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at University College London and I am conducting an online research study into panic attacks. I am still in need of more participants for my study. The study has ethics approval from the UCL ethics committee and I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Please see my advert below. If you know anyone who might like to take part, I would be grateful if you could pass the details on to them. Thank you for your time. Christine Participants needed for online research on Anxiety - University College London Do you suffer from symptoms of anxiety? Do you experience panic attacks? People who experience panic attacks often have fears about how their body works. For example, some people have a strong fear of losing control of their bladder or/and bowel; for others this is not a major concern. These fears can cause them great distress, limiting their day-to-day activities and disrupting social relationships. We are looking for participants to complete an online questionnaire, as part of our study, which is being conducted at University College London. Your information will increase our knowledge of difficulties with anxiety, helping us to develop new and effective treatments which can improve the quality of people?s lives. If you experience symptoms of anxiety, please copy and paste the link below into your browser to find out more about the study. opinio.ucl.ac.uk/s?s=19304

First health visitor (home visit as 2 weeks old) suggested that I would be getting some vitamin drops for my November born daughter at the baby clinic, but when I enquired they said it was not necessary for exclusively bf babies - they also recommended continuing my own vitamins as above.

Does anyone have the Baby Jogger Versa (new model - came out this year, reversible seat but same folding mechanism as the other mdoels). If you have one, would you recommend it and why? Anything thats not great about it? Thank you!

If she has a phone already, you could try a SIM only contract (e.g. Orange online). This worked for a friend of mine who couldn't take a full contract out when he arrived as a student. Not sure if that has changed now, but worth a try?

Au pairs in Herne Hill / East Dulwich
birnehelene replied to charlie777's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Charlotte, Our aupair, who is arriving in a couple of weeks has decided to do a course at Morley College. There are also courses at Lewisham College. Not sure how much the courses are though. But there have been several threads on here about language courses for au pairs on here. Your au pair could also link in with other local au pairs on http://www.facebook.com/groups/295708800703/ Good luck. -
Hi all, I just got an email about a job going with Blue Tutors - a company which matches tutors with students. I have worked for them in the past as a tutor. If I wasn't going back to my regular job with the NHS this could be a great starting point for a WAHM. https://bluetutors.co.uk/careers/admin_exec.php

Lots of great advice here. My daughter is only 10 months old, but I am trying very hard to speak German to her at least most of the time. I exclusively speak German to her when we are on our own. I found the support from a German playgroup invaluable as well as encouragement from family members to speak German (on visits to Germany). We are in the fortunate position to have a family member coming as an 'au pair' next month to look after my daughter when I return to work so she will speak only German. Getting support to encourage you to speak French would be great. There are some playgroups which have been advertised on the forum before so that may be helpful. However I strongly disagree with the suggestion to only respond to your daughter if she speaks French to you. From a psychological perspective this could be very damaging to your relationship, for her emotional and language development. There are many bilingual children who refuse to speak one language for some time but are actually able to speak it later on. I have seen this many times with children raised abroad. Also, my partner was forced by his dad in a very similar way to speak his local language (he is from West Africa) instead of English. Dad would only respond and talk to him in the local language. However this led to great resentment and thus my partner has refused to engage with the language whatsoever and has therefore lost the ability to speak it at all. So I think it would be more helpful to follow a gentle approach and use the language yourself and encourage your daughter to speak it too, but don't beat yourself up if she doesn't respond in French. It is very likely to happen over time that she will speak French especially if she sees that its great to be able to communicate better with other family members (maybe grandparents or cousins) in France.

Is there any nurseries with spaces out there?
birnehelene replied to archie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Cherry Tree Montessori? - a friend of mine has her 10 month old there and he is really enjoying it. Settled in quickly and staff have been great. I understand that forum reviews have not always been great but my friend has had a really good experience so far. They were also one of the few nurseries to offer a place quickly as they had opened a second (?) baby room. Not sure if there is still space but might be worth contacting them. Another friend has been offered a place at Oaktree (as above), but her boy hasn't started there yet so can't comment. But agree with Kate that there may well be space at Oaktree. Good luck. -
