  1. Maclaren Volo or Uppababy G Luxe fold very small I think.
  2. More people have the Ergo but I prefer the Manduca as it was a better fit for both myself and my daughter. We went to the sling library to have some advice from Emily. I then also hired the Manduca for a couple of weeks to try before buying.
  3. Hello there is a Facebook group called Dulwich Aupairs UNited (DAU) - you will be able to meet lots of aupairs through there. However we have an aupair from Germany with us. I will PM you her details.
  4. Hg mould spray from amazon. Contains bleach as well but works incredibly fast.
  5. Jollof Rice - west african rice dish cooked with tomatoes, veg and often meat - all in one pot. Very easy.
  6. Talking of coping strategies for parents reminds me of this lovely book which focusses on helping parents develop strategies to cope when things get tough. The Joy of Parenting: An Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Guide to Effective Parenting in the Early Years (by Coyne and Murrell)
  7. The Incredible Years (Carolyn Webster Stratton)- There are also some resources online for this book. http://www.incredibleyears.com/Resources/parents-toddlers-program_agendas-checklists-handouts.pdf Its full of hands on strategies and also goes over the principles of setting up good reward programmes which many parents say don't work as they can be tricky to get right. Also another very new book published last year is Pride and Joy - A guide to understanding your child's emotions and solving family problems - Kenneth Barish There is also Toddler Taming which is a popular book - haven't read it myself so can't comment. Remember that one of the most effective parenting strategies is positive reinforcement (plenty of commenting on desirable behaviours) which parents often forget in their toolbox when things get tough.
  8. Dulwich Cars have car seats - you need to say when you book that you need one. I have used them several times for airport drop off and pick up. There was a thread about this before and some other local companies have car seats too...
  9. emahoney64 is selling an ameda lactaline on the forum
  10. I have an Ameda Lactaline which I got following recommendations from the forum. Very happy with it.
  11. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?25,902897,955704#msg-955704 I have previously recommended Teresa on here who babysits my 14 month old daughter. I can also recommend Mona. I found both of them on the forum. Will PM you their numbers.
  12. Hannah and Adam are fantastic - they took wonderful, very natural photos of my partner, my daughter and myself. ?200 for a session. http://www.adamandhannah.co.uk/p/prices-and-packages.html
  13. I think a lot of slings start with a higher weight as it is harder to make sure that you follow the safe babywearing guidelines ('T.I.C.K.S.') (http://southlondonslings.com/sling-info/safe-babywearing/). However most stretchy wraps are actually safe if you follow the guidelines. I think the Caboo carrier is actually tested from 5lbs (and so might be the Wilkinet carrier). Since Moby is similar to Caboo it would probably be fine. If you want to be really sure to have sound advice, I would contact Emily at the south london sling library - you don't have to go there, btu can fill in her online enquiry form and she will get back to you by email. Happy babywearing!
  14. Norway coast or Netherlands
  15. Agree with Saffron and I would also put in a formal complaint to PALS.
  16. What you are doing is exactly the right thing to do. My daughter used to bite other children when she was just started to crawl and it stopped pretty quickly... http://www.incredibleyears.com/Resources/parents-toddlers-program_agendas-checklists-handouts.pdf Page 130 (see below) If your child bites or hits you: ? Do your best to stay calm, even though the bite or hit may startle you and hurt ? Use kind but firm limit setting ?no biting? and briefly put your child down or move away just a foot or two ? Tell your child that the biting hurt ? Ignore child for 1?2 minutes ? Redirect and reengage your child in a new activity, or provide her with words to communicate the reason for the bite.
  17. I used a Mei Tei sling a lot and still do (my daughter is 13 months now), but we have also had several prams. Hands down the best pram is the Baby Jogger Versa GT which has only just come out in teh UK. It is fantastic - best of the baby joggers as it has parent facing option as well as the easy fold and its very narrow. You also get a baby carrycot and maxi cosi adapters and if bought new its still much cheaper than Bugaboo Chameleon. We have had a Bugaboo Frog which I loved with the carrycot(but if the BJ Versa had been out I would always go for that over the Bugaboo), a Quinny Senzz for travelling (not great albeit an easy fold), Baby Jogger Summit (Fab for jogging and offroading but massive so not good for the city) and a Maclaren Quest (this is good as a stroller but they are so hard to push!)
  18. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to my research. I am still recruiting.
  19. Bilingual - same as the one at St Faiths.
  20. New German nursery in Forst Hill - opens in February http://www.kindergartenforesthill.co.uk/
  21. I would like to recommend Pouchlings Mei Tais. My daughter has been in a Babyhawk Mei Tai (amongst other slings) since she was about a month old. We both like babywearing a lot and so when she was starting to outgrow the baby size Mei Tais, I started looking into getting a toddler sized carrier. There is so much choice as with so many things: Monkey Mei Tais, Toddlerhawk, Melkaj and so on. Lots of these are fab, but quite expensive so we have opted for a Pouchlings Mei Tai instead after I found this mentioned on another forum as its a bit cheaper but made by a WAHM in the UK. And we are both loving our new sling. Its fab quality, looks great and it feels even more comfortable than the babyhawk. So here is the Pouchlings website: http://www.pouchlings.com/ They also sell other types of sligns, but I can't comment on these.
  22. Yes, what Ossa is saying is correct. My daughter does not need a German passport to be a German citizen. She is one automatically from birth. That right remains for the rest of her life. So I suppose its not necessary to get the passport but that way you have an actual document to show citizenship which you don't otherwise get.
  23. Our daughter has a British and German passport - I am German and my partner is Cameroonian (no dual nationality for Cameroonians). No real advantages for now, but you never know in the future.
  24. We have been a host family with Host UK for the past four years, occasionally hosting foreign students over weekends. We have spent a very enjoyable Christmas and Easter weekend with students from China. Host UK is a cultural exchange programme for students from overseas who would like to immerse themselves in British culture by staying with a host family for a weekend. Christmas, New Year and Easter are particularly popular times and the organisation is very short of families this year to host the many students who are lookign for families. If you are interested in hosting, kindly get in touch with Host UK. The regional coordinator is Monica and her E-mail is: host.org.uk.monica@gmail.com http://www.hostuk.org.uk/ Here is an article about the organisation http://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/higher/host-uk-is-helping-foreign-students-combat-the-loneliness-of-the-christmas-holidays-8340815.html I am also happy to answer any questions about our own experience as a host family.
  25. Any change may have a temporary impact on separation anxiety. I seem to remember that it has only been a few days since you have introduced the new routine. I would suggest that you handle her separation anxiety as you have previously handled it. Give her a bit of time to adjust to the change. I understand that there is always a bit of guilt involved for mums when we make a change - don't be hard on yourself. x
