  1. We've just got back from France and have to go into self-isolation for 14 days. If any kind person living in or near Therapia Road felt like picking up the newspaper for us, we'd be grateful. Please text me on 07958 000 287.
  2. And don't forget your face mask when you go!
  3. This is what The Guardian says about Adam's Station Barbers in Peckham. And he's a lovely guy. 7. The Station Barbers Peckham, London Thought getting a nifty haircut in London without breaking the bank was a fool?s errand? Think again. No appointments and no frills, the Station Barbers is a walk-in establishment that sits just off Peckham Rye, and will furnish you with a perfectly well-done crew cut for just ?11 (stationbarberspeckham.com).
  4. @ worldwiser: which newsletter was this? It?s not in the May edition.
  5. We?re members of the Horniman and know nothing about this. No mention of these plans in the last two newsletters. Are there other members reading this who are concerned about the lack of consultation?
  6. A few months ago we were told that the GP team was now complete - and still nothing changed. Dysfunctional appointments system, receptionists separated off by bulletproof glass to avoid human contact: and nobody can force them to change. Thanks, Andrew Lansley.
  7. They could temporarily make it a one-way street again (which it used to be). This would create more space for a bus stop.
  8. The safety argument is really important. I have written to customerservices@tfl.gov.uk about the lack of a temporary stop - they said they'd already received a few complaints, but the more they get, the better. Councillors, are you there?
  9. There is now NO bus stop for Peckham Rye station for 13 months. Our 63 driver said he?d had many complaints. I?m going to email TFL. Councillors, can you do something?
  10. Filming for Sky TV, apparently, and again completely taking over bits of Therapia and Scutari Rd. Councillors: we?re fed up. Brenda and Victor Meldrew
  11. They were perfectly friendly and helpful when I went in yesterday to buy some stamps and envelopes. Give them a chance!
  12. Dave's number is 07814 833352. He's just done a brilliant repair job in our bathroom. As others have said - friendly and reliable.
  13. Once a practice is put in special measures, the CCG does provide some support and involves the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) as well as the Local Medical Committee. What seems to be lacking is a clear programme focused on turning a practice around once the first 'requires improvement' rating is issued by the CQC. Part of the problem is that CCGs were not set up to deal with primary care. Now they are commissioning GPs, so there may well be capacity issues.
  14. The question is not whether the doctors (the ones that are left), or the nurses, or the pharmacists, are good or not - they are -, but why the practice was left to deteriorate between the two CQC reports in 2016 (requires improvement) and 2017 (inadequate). This is not just a box-ticking exercise: a GP practice needs good management and needs to be safe for its patients; FHGP was rated inadequate on both. The CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) has had the responsibility for performance management of GP practices since April 2016, so the question is whether they could and should have prevented this deterioration. The overall situation in Southwark is pretty dramatic: out of 38 practices, 11 are either inadequate or require improvement, much worse than the national average. Given the local council?s resposibility for Public Health, it?s surprising they have not put more pressure on the CCG.
  15. CCGs have no power over GP practices (would not be right - they are made up of local GPs). The CQC doesn't manage individual complaints about GPs either, as it says on their website. The body that commissions GPs is NHS England, so complaints should be addressed to them (email: england.contactus@nhs.net; phone: 0300 311 22 33). But before they handle your complaint you have to have communicated with the Practice Manager about the problem.
  16. At last - after many years of neglect this row of shops is starting to look better. How about a board with your menu outside? Would that not attract more customers? And do mention the fresh eggs.
  17. One important argument in favour of the Camberwell/Peckham Rye route is the King's College Hospital complex (really two hospitals). This badly needs a tube line.
  18. Any thoughts on how Therapia should be pronounced? We've called it TherAIpia for the last twenty years. But should it be TherapIa if it's derived from Tarabya? Maybe the people in the Turkish shop will know.
  19. Sorry - just read the Newsletter. It's in there. But you still meet up.
  20. We are shareholders and did not receive an email about the licence application. As a community pub the Ivy House needs to be (and I'm sure wants to be) really sensitive to the concerns of the people in the neighbourhood, especially about noise late at night. Why don't the steering group meet up with the people who are most likely to be affected?
  21. Do Conway have a monopoly on roadworks in Southwark? Does nobody tell them that it's not acceptable to restrict traffic to one lane only (in each direction) during the rush hour? Surely these are relatively minor alterations, without the need to dig deep holes, so there is no reason why the quality of life of so many people should be affected.
  22. 8 weeks is completely unacceptable - just experienced the delays on the 63 in both directions. The council should not have agreed to this time scale. Renata (and other councillors), can you do something?
  23. Please support the Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers (based at the Copleston Centre) by sponsoring our 5 SDCAS runners - they're doing 10k this Sunday. It's easy through JustGiving (www.justgiving.com/SDCAS-Runners). For more information about SDCAS see our website http://www.sdcas.org.uk/
  24. Just heard from Southwark Couoncil that they're supposed to be gritting everywhere. All the roads in our area (Marmora, Mundania, Therapia, Scutari) have been like an ice rink since the bad weather started, not a speck of salt to be seen. Grossly negligent?
