Do you live near Forest Hill Road and have your dog walked?
TimMac replied to elloriac's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think we shouldn't lose sight of the issue of the welfare of the dogs that were being walked by this man (whoever he is, but who is so obviously NOT Simon).reasons I have seen 'professional' dog walkers over Peckham Rye (and One Tree Hill) on lead for a lot of their walk and sometimes tied up awaiting collection. I accept there may be reasons for this but it still seems pretty unreasonable. I feel that both of these behaviours are unfair to the dogs and also the owners who are paying for the 'professional' service. I believe that there are local dog walking services which follow both the 'purely' commercial method and those which are more 'in-tune' with the needs of the animals. I can only hope that through consumer reaction the methods of the former will be revised, but sadly I don't hold out much hope! -
James, James Indeed paving slabs are an more attractive option and environmenatally more appropriate. The only downside (which is actually a matter of management) is when service contractors do works in the pavement and rather than reinstate the original paving they replace with tarmac. This could be avoid if, when letting highways contracts, a clause is included to ensure that reinstatement of pavements is 'like-for-like'. It would certainly help prevent pavements ending up as patchwork quilt, and in the event a contractor didn't comply there would be a contractual mechanism to ensure remedial work. Regards Tim

I think I've managed to answer my own question. I've found that Southwark.gov website gives details how to go about it. Tim -

Having just revisited the scene I have seen that there is a traffic CCTV camera right at the junction of Nigel Road and Peckham Rye, Although it's unlikely it recorded my accident I would like to find out how I can review the tape. Can anyone shed any light on how I might go about it? Thanks Tim -

Good thinking but I fear that because the hole which caused the damage was part of a badly filled recent road works, it was quickly filled by the works contractor after the accident. It's worth a shot though. Many thanks for the lateral thinking. Tim -

theratprincess, Many thanks for your post, were you caught up in the traffic jam which I caused? I have no recollectionhow long I was in the road but it must have been a nnumber of minutes before the police arrived at the scene. Thank you for the tips. I have already been in touch with my house insurers, I only found out about their service when re-reading the small print. I'll also have a look to see if there were any CCTV cameras in the area which might have captured the incident. Lady Muck, Thanks for your post and reference to your experiences, I don't imagine it to be an easy process and although I would rather forget the experience I can't afford to spend what seems to be an escalating dental bill running in to ?3k so will pursue the matter through the lawyers. Thanks also to everyone else for there supportive messages, Stitches come out today. Tim -

Can I respectfully ask that we don't stray off-topic. The damaged road surface which I hit was not your normal pothole caused by wear and tear or freeze/thawing but by a contractor who had not filled a hole correctly. Many thanks. -

Buggie, Many thanks for the tip about the PAL Service, I will certainly get on the case. Northlondoner, I'm hoping that the Council will have records about the filling of the hole however, I fear that human nature of avoiding admitting a mistake may mean that the re-filling of the hole may not be recorded! Do you know if there is a way the contractor's log of work done can be inspected? -

Sandperson, Yes, it was a hole in the temporary strip of tarmac so almost certainly associated with the roadworks. Are you a cyclist? and do you remember the hole? Thanks for taking the trouble to look at the CTC website for me, it's a shame that is wasn't reported. Hi, I'm an infrequent visitor to the EDF but I would like to call upon the ED collective for some assistance. On Monday morning this week (15th Feb) I was unfortunate enough to have a cycle accident as a result of a huge pot hole. The incident saw me come off my bike hitting the road face first and briefly knocking me unconscious. The police and ambulance arrived and took me to hospital to patch me up. As a result I have 8 stitches above my right eye, numerous other facial abrasions but more annoyingly I've lost one front upper tooth, half of another, a third is chipped and another loose. I wasn't speeding I was pootling along at 10-15 mph and wearing a helmet, so seriously annoyed. The upshot of my injuries is that I'm looking at a reconstructive dental bill into the thousands and so I'm considering a making a claim. The one problem is that the earliest opportunity I had to re-visit the scene and take a photograph was 24hrs later, by which time the hole had been filled. Can I ask if any other cyclists, pedestrians or drivers witnessed the hole in question or actually saw the accident. I would be very grateful to hear from you. kind regards Tim
