  2. Are you sure that the boiler is broken? If the boiler is on when the gas was shut off it will shut itself down automatically and will need to be reset. This normally only involves pushing the reset button, or even just turning off and on again for older systems. Do you have a handbook?

  6. I only noticed this at the top of the page this morning and, although I have only been viewing for a little over a year, I am really going to miss the forum. However, life must go on, you have to have a holiday without worrying what is going on back home Have a great time. See you soon
  7. I have been to the sorting office today to find out if 2 packets are there. I was told that all the parcel/packet sorting was being done at SE1 and would be delivered by "white vans" hopefully by this weekend. Strangely, much emphasis was placed on hopefully and white vans!
  8. You might be right about Curry Cabin coming later but I have remembered two more 39 Chicken Shop was a furniture shop then later a Launderette Across the road, about No. 40 Motor Factors. In the mid 50's 38 or 42 was a bakers, but it may have gone by 1959 Any more?
  9. Pullins motor and m/cycle dealer where Iceland (Bejam) is. Lockharts the totally disorganised stationers was next door. Indian Restaurant on the corner of Chesterfield Grove was the Curry Cabin Next door was Lee and Son Electrics (he had 7 daughters before he finally had a son) Soup Dragon was an undertakers. The Cheese Block was a newsagent/video rental. Police Station was a dodgy s/h car dealers in two shops. Any more?
  10. Not quite on topic because it was not smuggled, but as a kid I was on holiday in Majorca. During this holiday I had collected several sets of matchboxes. Each set of 40 was of things like flags of the world, breeds of dogs, etc. End of holiday, into suitcase they go. All full of non safety matches! Well we all survived , despite the potential bomb in the plane's hold.
  11. Re Stop and search. My son (23 white) has been stopped and the car searched some 8 times in the last 3 months. Each time has been between East Dulwich and Tulse Hill timing varying between 3pm and 2am. He has no convictions and a full clean license. Is it possible that he fits the profile to balance the figures for stop and search?

  13. I think this might have been in Lordship Lane next to the Mini Mart. This might(?) have been following the bomb damage that took out the block from the 7 11 to the Co op Chemist. I know that there was a cinema at that address.
