  1. I've always had good experiences with the doctors at Forest Hill Road practice. Several of the doctors are part time though, so it's not easy to see the same person.
  2. Hi mynamehere Royal mail's machinery reads the handwritten address on the envelope and converts it into code which is printed invisibly on the envelope to enable automatic sorting. Very occasionally it doesn't work correctly and it either reads the return address or misreads it completely. Ideally your postie should have spotted it before delivering it and sent it back for manual sorting.
  3. Some while ago I stopped at these lights which were red and a lady behind me ran into the back of me. She said she didn't realise there were traffic lights there. Fortunately she was fully insured and her insurance company paid for my repairs.
  4. Hi James, The intercom serving the top block of council flats in Friern Road nearest to Lordship Lane has been out of service for around 3 weeks. Residents have reported it to the council but it is still U/S. I don't live there myself but it's frustrating trying to gain access to the block. Maybe a gentle prod from your good self would speed things up. Thanks in anticipation.
  5. Completely agree Artful. The whole meaning of Christmas has been totally overtaken by consumerism. My job goes completely manic this time of year.
  6. I am very sorry to report the sudden death of Stephen Humphrey. Stephen was the former Southwark local studies librarian. He possessed an encyclopaedic knowledge of the history of Southwark and regularly gave talks to local groups. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
  7. Postboxes all have a barcode inside them which has to be scanned when the box is emptied. It tells Royal Mail when the box was emptied.
  8. If you check the postcode it will narrow the address down to a small section of the road.
  9. Signed. So sorry to hear what happened to you and hope you are recovering.
  10. Unfortunately we don't have a local police station anymore.
  11. I've just seen the poster outside the shop. It says that it is a temporary closure. The postmaster has resigned and they are looking for alternative premises in the area. When it was in the previous location it was always busy but the new shop never seemed busy whenever I went in there.
  12. That's ridiculous. As singalto says it's only recently moved there from further down the road.
  13. Cityview court in Overhill Road, as it's name suggests, has views to the city from the North facing flats.
  14. They were working early this morning but have now gone wrong again! Grr.
  15. There's currently a high level of sickness, so several rounds are going out in the afternoon on overtime and even the office manager delivered my mail today due to lack of staff.
  16. It's always concerned me that there is a lack of security in the voting process. You just have to give a name and address and you will be given a voting paper, as long as that person is on the register and hasn't already voted. I think you should have to produce some form of identity or at least a polling card in order to vote.
  17. Hi Dimples Most Amazon parcels are now delivered by amazon's own delivery service instead of Royal Mail.
  18. I second the Pyrotechnists. I went to an event there this week. The room at the back is lovely.
  19. Maybe someone viewing this thread will take 'the law' into their own hands. 😉
  20. First post - says it all.
  21. Totally agree Sue. Ability is more important than age.
  22. Don't worry. They have a marquee every summer. It's used on Founder's day and other school related events. Last year it was also used for a late night noisy wedding reception which they said they won't be repeating.
  23. I go every year. The volunteers who organise it always put on a splendid event and it seems to get even better each year.
  24. Goodrich School has security cameras. Don't know if they cover the road outside, but worth checking.
