Top Signal Service had recently done work for our neighbours, and as a result we asked them to come and look at our TV set. Our 30+ year old rooftop ariel had not worked for ages and a small indoor ariel gave very patchy reception. Dan from Top Signal Service was absolutely excellent. He arrived on time, explained the options, worked cleanly and efficiently to remove old ariel and install new one. Also sorted out a problem with our TV?s internet connection. The result is TV reception that is perfect - for the first time in many years. The ariel installation and the wiring into the house are clean and unobtrusive. A fantastic job at a fair and reasonable price!

Aston has done a number of indoor jobs for us and done them brilliantly. This time we had a badly leaning garden fence which we needed to get repaired quickly and well to avoid it falling into our neighbors? garden. Aston confirmed that he would be able to do the fence repair and that he is experienced at doing it. His solution was to used a concrete post which is sunk into the ground and attached to the leaning post to straighten and secure it. As usual Aston was punctual, efficient and he is a thoroughly nice and reliable guy. The fence is now straight, stable and very secure. Aston is now firmly our go-to person when we need work done that we simply shouldn?t tackle ourselves.

This has been the fourth time we have asked Aston to help us out and that itself is a testament to his reliability, pleasantness and the very high quality of his work. He assembled a large IKEA display cabinet, put up a wall bracket, re-secured a fire alarm to the ceiling and fixed a longstanding problem with a wardrobe door that wouldn?t close properly. When necessary he would consult to ensure things were placed where we wanted them but otherwise he worked quietly and efficiently- getting things done with no fuss at all. Very high quality work at a fair price. We will most definitely be calling in Aston again!

We have used Aston before with brilliant results when he attach a tall heavy cabinet to the bathroom wall after I had failed miserably. This week I had decided to put up a new roller blind in my daughter's bedroom myself thinking it an easy job!!I couldn't drill very far into the wall - something wasn't right SO CALL ASTON!! We needed the blind up within a few days and Aston was able to oblige. I had met Aston before but my wife hadn't and she agrees with me and the many many reviews on this forum that Aston is fantastic - a real asset to the local community. I have also learnt that those jobs I sometimes think of as straightforward can be far from that unless you really know what you are doing. Aston does know what he is doing and his rates are reasonable and competitive- even more so because of the quality of his work and general service. So next time if it's much more than banging in a picture hook and there is any risk of mucking it up, I know who I will be contacting.....!

I had major problems fixing a heavy tall IKEA bathroom cabinet to the wall. The fittings I was advised to use by a local DIY store just didn't work and when I put the heavy mirrored door on the whole cabinet came loose from the wall. I needed professional help and looked to the EDF and found Aston. He was able to come round promptly the same morning I phoned (10 April 2017) and his communication was excellent. Despite the holes I had made being far to large and it being inadvisable according to Aston to drill new ones nearby he somehow managed to get the cabinet up very securely. The proof of the pudding was going to be securing the heavy mirrored door. Aston suggested waiting a few hours before doing this to let things settle and in fact I have just screwed the door in two days later. Result? Whole thing - solid as a rock!In addition what everyone says is true: Aston was polite, punctual, informative, very pleasant, reasonably priced and he tidied up. No hesitation in heartily recommending Aston and I now know our port of call for DIY DOS.

So Red Devil and Newboots - Soviet Russia it is! Nice to know that as far as you are concerned public speculation is no go. The posts that are most upsetting in the thread are actually ones like yours.

Both these threads have contained genuine thoughts of grief and support and as some have said of legitimate conjecture. I may not agree with all the things that have been posted here about this issue but I will defend the right of people to say what they wish to within the law and within the protocol of the EDF. It saddens me that I am having to defend free speech in this way. No one can now see my post on the original thread as my right to express a legitimate and a compassionate message was removed. I would not like to see this thread removed and I would like to see the original reinstated and I would like people from throughout the community who mourn the passing of Charles Richardson, as well as well as those who wish to question how things have been handled to be able to express themselves on the Forum. Otherwise why not just rebadge it 'find a plumber' and limit it to that. So please keep this open, reinstate the previous thread and honour the memory of a local priest, as well as speculate on what may or may not have happened. We are not living in Soviet Russia!

Hi Vesti The only agenda is free speech. I knew Charles Richardson for 16 years and was a church warden at St John's. What is your agenda? Are you going to vet everyone who registers in response to a post!!!!!!!

There was a thread here yesterday about the very unfortunate disappearance of a local parish priest and his death some months later. The thread contained some messages of heartfelt concern and sadness and some referring to the strange circumstances that may surround all this. The possibility of a cover up was put forward. Someone at that stage asked for the thread to be removed and it has been. The sudden disappearance and death of a local vicar is likely to be the subject of not only much sadness but of course of local gossip. In my opinion nothing in that thread was libellous and much was very touching and deeply felt grief. Those who think that information about the circumstances surrounding all this are being withheld/ managed will draw there own conclusions. Someone on the thread mentioned free speech. I rest my case.

At one time I knew Charles Richardson well and was very involved at St John's. Photograhs of him are, of course, no longer prominent on the St John's website but in the most recent photo, which was also on the Area Deanery website, he simply looked very sad, almost like a light had gone out. I certainly had my differences with him but I hope he now rests in peace. There is reference in this thread to the visit of the Bishop of Woolwich to St John's to announce the death to the congregation. Personally I found the silence from the Diocese between Charles Richardson's disapearance and his death a very sad thing - no one was told anything about why he had disappeared, where he was etc. After 16 years gone in an instant and no one was told anything. Disappearance a mystery, death a mystery. I do feel incredibly sad for the congestion at St John's - it must have felt so traumatic. I do wonder if the Bishop of Woolwich and his colleagues at the Diocese of Southwark will seriously ask themselves if they could have handled this better.
