  1. Personally I can't see the problem in using this forum as a kind of modern-day neighbourhood watch scheme. It's all about looking out for each other, just as it should be in a caring community such as ours - well I'd like to think so.

The other types - e.g., CO2, foam and dry powder, must include a minimum 5% (I think) of the extinguisher surface area in the correct 'colour' assigned to it - with the rest of it being red. ie, CO2 is black, foam is cream and dry powder is blue. These are regulations brought in by the EU to 'standardise' all countries so we're all the same. Personally I think it's a typical example of EU bureaucracy triumphing over common sense, but there you go. The important thing is to make sure you know the correct type to use for the fire you're fighting, and also to understand how it works before you use one for real! Another tip for small businesses - don't get fobbed off by slick extinguisher salesmen - they'll sell you more than you probably need. If in doubt give the local fire safety officer a call (check the London Fire Brigade website for contact details) for free advice. One thing he will advise is not to even consider painting extinguishers in the first place.
  3. I wouldn't want to do that.. equally, wouldn't you want to give your quarry at least a sporting chance? After all, it's much more fun hitting a moving target...!

  5. Oh well. Thanks for letting me know - I see now why she looks so happy!
  6. Yes it's true. I saw it in black and white.
  7. The photos are great and show everyone having a really good time. You all look friendly enough - especially the blonde in the dark green top, who I think is very attractive! I may just pop along some time.
  8. I assumed this thread was about songs by Bruce Springsteen. Oops.
  9. dulwichmum Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I didn't know that they even had universities in > the Midlands. Good for you! Surely you've heard of the universities at Oxford? (Oxford is an English city, situated in the Midlands) ;-)

  11. So Tony what you're saying is that they don't know their r's from their elbow? I entirely agree!
  12. I'm not the person you're after VBC but as you may have guessed from my tag I too am a midlander. It's nice to know I'm not the only one! Mind you if you're mission here is like mine to convert these southerners to say 'bath' properly then you'll have your work cut out. I've been here for 10 years and they still look bemused when they hear my dulcit tones.
  13. I ...err... have to confess that I like watching loose women. That's the tv prog by the way. I've only just discovered it after starting to work from home. I'd love to be their token male guest, sat in the middle of them as they flirt outrageously with me.... Heaven.
  14. Scrap the 3rd runway plan. Just divert planes to land on the Thames. It works for New York.

    Type - oh

I know this isn't strictly a typo but my 6 year old came out with a classic yesterday. Hearing the song 'American Pie' being played on the hi fi (Madonna's version), she declared "I know this one - it's called Eye Spy With My American Eye.." !!!
  16. Yes Ted excellent impression its almost like you were there...!
  17. I saw Garth Crooks a couple of years ago in a bar on LL near to EDT. He spent most of the time pacing up and down outside with his mobile phone stuck to his ear. Though we all tried, no one could get it off. Ok, I made up the last bit.
  18. Well there's a nurse in the flat next door to me and another two doors up. Assuming this sequence is repeated throughout ED, I reckon there's at least 10,000 nurses in these here parts. In fact there must be a lot of firemen living here too because I'm one and I know there's one other in my road.

What's the difference between a JCB and a giraffe? One's got hydraulics and the other's got high boll*cks.
