I wondered why I couldn't get any info from their web site earlier this evening. Maybe you can pass that on to newspapers to put some pressure on Thames Water!

I heard from the council that resurfacing of Dulwich Village between Turney Road and Village Way will be finished today, Tuesday. They will then move on to re-surfacing work at the main junction (DV, Calton Avenue/Court Lane and Turney Road) and this should be finished on Friday 16 Feb. They didn't say what closures will be put in place for the second phase but probably worth avoiding the area if possible! At least the council have sensibly waited for half term to do this.

What makes East Dulwich special - your input needed!
slarti b replied to eastDAG's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As a "local community group" applying for or using Council funds I assume EDAG will have a proper constitution, officers, minutes of meetings etc. I can't find anything recently on google, though this posting on EDF from 2009 suggested EDAG was related to the East Dulwich Society that was wound up last year after having being inactive for over 5 years http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,354817 So, who are you, what is your mandate and where is your web site? -
I cycled through it yesterday on way to\from work. Some quick observations: Going South along Dulwich Village to the junction the road seems to narrow alarmingly at the lights, not sure if you could safely get car and cycle going through together. Also not sure how easy it will be to access the cyclists advance stop line there. Going West along Calton towards the junction the road is very narrow at crossing just before Court Lane and then the kink in the road makes for awkward cycling lines. I also felt vulnerable to cars coming from Court Lane and not giving way. I think that, with more traffic, turning right into Dulwich Village Northbound may be a problem. The junction is not yet finished and, at the moment, there is not much traffic due to post Christmas lull so these comments needs to be caveated. New road markings may help a bit, eg the Court Lane\Calton priority, but clearly cant change the physical layout. I will reserve full judgement till the work is finished.

Sorry to see that they have closed. Was a nice shop though never seemed very busy.

Conway Road Works at Junction of Wood Vale and FH Road
slarti b replied to Penguin68's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sounds like standard Conway practise, poor planning and no concerns about disruption to residents. On 2 occasions this year in Woodwarde Rd (Feb and May?) they have put up signs asking for all cars on a 100-150 metre stretch of road to be moved for pavement repairs lasting a week. In neither case did the works happen. They eventually did the work a couple of weeks ago but because it was holiday season or maybe because people hadn't noticed the signs now referred to July rather than May, quite a few cars were not moved. Is there anyone at the council managing Conway or monitoring their performance? -
If you follow the link it relates to the stabbing victim who drove into the police cordon on Sunday so, thankfully, not a new incident.

Overheard police lady saying closure lukely to be in place till late tonight while they check forendics.

Just a warning, Someone broke in to our house on Woodwarde through our back garden Patio doors some time yesterday late afternoon or evening. Nothing subtle, they forced door, breaking the frame. Thankfully they seem to have been scared off by the burglar alarm and nothing taken. They could have come down the side passage or from one of the other gardens adjoining ours. So, make sure all back doors are locked and burglar alarm turned on even if you are just popping out for 20 mins!

Zelig Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Shame on Hayes. The vote wasn't about Brexit thats all done and dusted. The vote was about > supporting the Labour Party and leader of the Labour Party Sorry, I thought the vote was about allowing the Prime Minister to trigger article 50, not a confidence vote on the "leader" of the Labour Party. I think Ms Hayes has properly represented the views of her constituents against a 3 line whip poorly imposed by a weak, naive and inconsistent figurehead. Corbyn received the type of support he himself gave to the leaders of his own party previously. And of course the Parliamentary Labour Party has already a confidence vote on Corbyn, which he lost by 172 to 40. Well done Ms Hayes, but I wish we had a proper opposition who could properly challenge the government, time for the LIb Dems to take their place?

I have been looking for a WEEE recycling facility and, logically, thought about the the Southwark web site. I initially tried the map of recycling facilities. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/recycling/recycling-centres/map-of-recycling-facilities This page is unbelievably bad, error box on first access, no key to symbols, when clicking on the site symbol (presumably should be a description of facilities available) brings up an empty box. Possibly it was designed and built by a 16 year old on work experience but even so is still useless. If it was actually built by someone who was paid for the job they and their managers should be sacked! Anyway, I managed to find a different map which shows only 2 places for WEEE recycling, both right in North http://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/recycling/recycling-centres/weee-banks If the council is serious about helping people responsibly recycle electronic goods there should be more WEEE facilities in the south of the borough and they should make it easier to find them. If not, people will just throw old electrical stuff in the general rubbish bin or just dump on the side of the road.

Southwark Council Bulk Collection

James, You wrote this in January, do you know if it is still correct? The web site makes no mention of an arrangement for Southwark residents. -
Penguin68 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > My understanding is that Sainbury's is only prepared to give up prime parking spaces during relatively low use periods. Fair point. Is there somewhere else that the council could arrange for Veolia to use at weekends which is more accessible for Dulwich residents?

Hi, We have used the Lambeth recycling depot in West Dulwich for many years since it is close and convenient. But I have been told that, from 1 Oct, it will be restricted to Lambeth residents meaning the closest Southwark recylicng centre is off Old Kent Road. So, can you have this mobile recycling centre at Sainsburys operating at weekends, when ordinary working people can use it, rather than in the middle of the week?

lobby to allow motorbikes in bus lane on Dog Kennel Hill

rendelharris Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Is it too simplistic a solution to say stick the bus lane on the right hand side (there are no bus stops on that side > between East Dulwich Station and the crest of the hill) Interesting idea and may work for buses but I don't think it would work for cyclists unless you could get a mandatory cycle lane on left side of road. -
Lowlander, Many thanks for the link, I will check this out in more detail at home. Lots of nice info, I had no idea the "P" of P4 stood for Peckham!

Boris bus = 12.6T nett and 16T gross Does it tell you the length and width of the single decker (ie P4) vs double decker to be used on the 42 route? Due to the traffic island "chicanes" on Red Post Hill I think manoeuvrability is more important than weight

Recommendations For Medical Practice in ED
slarti b replied to KateFord's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Forest Hill practise has recently put some info on its web site which says that, of their 10 doctors, only 2 (yes TWO) are full time. Assuming the 8 part timers are working 3 days a week this gives an effective "Patients per Quack" ratio of 1,861 dropping it 2 places in the list. Though it may be necessary to make similar adjustments for other practises. It would be useful to have the FTE (Full Time Equivalent) Doctor figures so a proper comparison could be made. The fact that Forest Hill has only 2 full time doctors probably explains why you have to wait 4 weeks for a routine appointment, if indeed you can get an appointment at all! It also explains why the surgery has seemed like a deserted ghost town at my the last couple of visits. Definitely wouldn't recommend them. Edited to add: Given that Forest Hill acknowledge they have problems in providing appointments it seems outrageous they are accepting new patients. They need to sort out the practise first.
