Brick House Bread announced they aren't reopening
slarti b replied to Azalea's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I like the bread from Mons! From memory it is less than ?5 (maybe 4.50 though I could be wrong) and they are also happy to sell a half loaf. Their crusty baguettes are fantastic. -
Oglander road thefts...getting ridiculous

"We have a Nest door elk so I?m hoping we might be able to retrieve the pics" A moose with a camera hanging on your front door??? Seriously sorry about the theft, really awful. -
Cycling in to work through Dulwich Village a pleasure this week as the Foundation schools and state schools are both on holiday. Will be interesting to see what it is like next week when I think it is just Foundation schools. From previous experience it will be almost as good.

I had a quick look at the Travel plan drawn up as part of this expansion. Alleyns expect to increase the number of pupils by 35-42 (seems low for 3 new forms) and have another 6 staff. Over 40% of current junior school pupils and staff come by car. So this will mean an increase in traffic in an area that is already heavily congested by traffic from Alleyns and JAGS. In addition, they will reduce the number of car parking spaces available in the school which, together with the introduction of the CPZ whill put even more pressure on parking in surrounding streets outside the new CPZ such as Calton Avenue, Townley, Dovercourt and Beauval Roads. We have seen a huge expansion of these 2 schools over the last couple of decades with little regard to the effect on the local community in terms of traffic, pollution and parking. I hope people will look at these plans carefully and let the council know of any concerns they may have. Just heard from a neighbour about an attempted break-in on Woodwarde Road. Don't have all the details but apparently someone rang the door bell in the middle of the day and, when the nanny(?) answered the caller said they were there to mend the computer. When challenged he attempted to force his way in but failed. Take care

Pugwash, are you complaining about a 2 week wait before you actually had the appointemnt ? Luxury!!!! I spent 2 weeks trying to MAKE an appointment. FHGP were OK for urgent stuff but anything non-urgent or routine was a nightmare to get seen. That is why I have moved. And rememebr that non-urgent is not the same as not important. -

They do need to train, clearly and within work hours. It was Thursday morning, the time I had been told to ring back the previous time I had called. I also disagree they need to stop working during the week to train. Anyway, on Friday afternoon I went to another local GP and, after 10 minutes filling in forms I am now registered with them and have received the test results I had been trying for 2 weeks to get a telephone appointment to discuss with Forest Hill practise. Once you got to see a doctor Forest Hill were OK but that is not sufficient. My own view, after 30 years with them , is they are not fit for purpose. I strongly suggest that, if patients are not happy with the service they provide, move elsewhere. -

I rang up yesterday but the reception was closed to all but urgent calls for training. I got through today (eventually) and tried , for the third time to make an appointment to be told all slots gone and to ring back on Monday. So, after 2 weeks, 3 calls where I got through and 5 or 6 calls where I couldn't get through (gave up after 15 mins, line engaged, surgery closed) I am still waiting to get an appointment to discuss some tests. TIme for a change -

I am waiting for a telephone appointment to discuss some test results. I have twice been told to ring back "next week" because they have run out of slots. I have also given up once because phone took too long to answer. If I cant get something next week this may be the final straw and I will move after 30 years. -

Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge?
slarti b replied to slarti b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Whether it is a good decision or not the way it has been (not) communicated is appalling. On the "Local Councillors" thread James McAsh said yesterday he would get back to me but nothing yet. -
I think Vauxwall do parent and toddler bouldering sessions ( I vaguely remember a poster in changing rooms) but not 100% sure.

Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge?
slarti b replied to slarti b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I heard that, if you paid the fee, you would get a sticker for the brown bin. The paper sacks would continue but would need to be purchased. I can see the logic in charging for what is effectively a garden waste service but there needs to be some advance communication about this and the implication thought though and explained. Probably worth checking with local councillors, I may put something up on their thread. -
I have heard a rumour that the Council plan to introduce an annual charge for the large brown organic waste bins on the basis these are used mainly for garden waste. The small brown, food waste, ones will still be free. I was told this will be effective from 1 April but I can see nothing on council web site and don't seem to have had anything through the door. Has anyone else heard of this?

Dulwich Village Junction - Tailbacks up Woodwarde Rd?
slarti b replied to slarti b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James, The Lordship Lane roadworks may be an issue eg if cars bypassed Lordhip Lane and went down Forest Hill rd, ending up coming along Barry Road then Eynella\Woodwarde. The timing sounds about right but I am not convinced since this assumes displacement from Court lane which doesn't seem to be happening. I totally agree the new DV junction has many flaws and the advance release for cars from Turney conflicts with the Cars from Calton turning right.. However I think that problem has always been there. Maybe we wait till Lordship Lane waters works are finished and see if it returns to normal? Cureently Thames Water seems to have 2 lots of works and road closures, 16 Feb - 9 Mar and 6 April - 12 April -
I normally cycle to work down Woodwarde Rd and through the DV junction around 8.30 every morning. Over the last couple of weeks (not during half term) the tailbacks from the junction up Calton Ave and Woodwarde from have been massive, up to 20 cars queuing all the way back to Druce Road. This doesn't seem to be caused by any school coaches or such like. in the past there were normally only 3\4 cars queuing, if that. Have other people noticed this and if so, is it because the timing of the traffic lights

slarti b replied to jamesmcash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
From the map it also covers Townley Road which is used heavily for parking by local schools, JAGS and Alleyns. If these cars are displaced it will have knock-on effect on Calton Avenue ( also affected by Quietway 7), Beauval and Dovercourt. -

James, I cannot find this consultation on the Soutwark Council web site consultation hub. Is it open yet and, if not, when will it be? -
I think I was also told that the new helipad is larger than at other London hospitals. This means that bigger helicopters, eg Coastguard helicopters, can land there. If true this may increase the number of landings.

Roads in SE22 not underneath flight path (do they exist?)
slarti b replied to klove's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I live in Woodwarde and there is a fair amount of aircraft noise but I tend to blank it out unless there is a special reason (eg reading these posts). The noisiest, probably because lower, are the ones landing at City Airport. The absence of aircraft noise was also very obvious when flights were stopped during the icelandic volcano eruption. Out of interest the Heathrow airport web site gives quite a lot of operational data https://www.heathrow.com/noise/reports-and-statistics/operational-data eg for 2017 Western arrivals (the ones that go over Dulwich) you can see the tracks at https://www.heathrow.com/file_source/HeathrowNoise/Static/arr_west_2017.pdf They don't seem to have changes much since 2013 (earliest map on the site)
